I really appreciate that you recorded the whole process of the pen tool - people can always fast forward or skip, but it allows us to see your process a little deeper in the mundane where most tutorials just assume you know how to do it. It allows us to see your thought process on something like that, and that's more valuable than you probably know! If anyone is wondering, the parts where you wish there wasn't that hang-nail for "g" or "R", or "k"... Maybe play around with key-frames and the stroke-thickness on those parts! Thanks for the tutorial, man!
These After Effects tutorials are just great! Kinda was my last frontier in my Graphic Design career and I've been avoiding Ae because I found the tutorials hard to follow and the instructors dull but you have changed my mind! Thank you so much!
Nice video! The way I first learned this was slightly different: 1. use the pen tool on the text layer 2. add the "stroke" effect 3. increase brush size said effect to hide all original text 4. set "paint style" to reveal original image just for anyone else trying
Hi, how do you set paint style ? When i follow those steps from video, in the end product I only get my stroke rendered with the color of the stroke and not the original png image below.
I followed this tutorial but did something else to reveal the text. I had to animate a text with a drop shadow, so that alpha matte thing wouldn't work for me bc the text would end up being flat. I did the following: Once the stroke was animated, I added the "set matte" effect to the text layer, and on the "obtain matte from layer" I selected the shape/stoke layer. then, this would act like a mask, revealing the text, instead of being a single flat color above it. Great tutorial, thanks a lot, it was very useful.
Thanks dude! Every other tutorial I stumbled upon, they jumped right to business without explaining anything. You take your time to explain everything and it's awesome! ♥
Hi , thanks so much for your crack. It really works. But from the beginning it did not work for some reason, I updated visual studio and oh my god it worked. Thank you!
Awsome tutorial as always, about lettre g and e issue there is another way to make this animation by selecting the text and adding masks with the pen tool and not using a single one then go to effect tab and look for stroke in the stroke effect tab select all masks and change some options there and your good to go.
You're right. I always struggle with how much I should add to a tutorial (add even more time to my videos) vs. leave out something that could be useful. Lots and lots of masks are always helpful in a situation like this 🍻 Thanks for the comment!
This video is really helpful! I've tried to teach myself so hard to get this skill through all other videos and now I got the way to do it!! Thank you so much
You make such incredible, simple to understand, and beautifully designed tutorials. Thank you for all the work you put into educating us on Adobe Programs! :)
I'm guessing for those bits where the stroke gets parts you dont want yet, you could shift the width of the stroke for that portion? So it narrows for the finer lines and then you can widen it out again for the thicker lines?
Great tutorial. Actually, maybe you can also apply thickness as key frame to solve the problem of g. or some other letters with thin and thick strokes.
This was really helpful thank you!! Perfect length and easy to follow. Perfect addition to my motion graphics project in my graphic design course at uni :)
Thank you for posting it. I was following 1:1 and towards the end ... by the part where we had to head over to "Add" and find Track Layer Savage Alpha 9:10 everything worked. But my Shape layer did not have a track mask. It did not work. Sorry! Had to scrap it all. (PS.: I am not an animator - just tried get the effect for a video title)

This is very long, and this tutorial doesn't work for many letters. I have found a better tutorial 4 minutes long. but hope you're doing great.

Same. Because at the end, the original color doesn't show. I was waiting for the part where the original text is revealed.
The path cannot working well 😟😟

@@ognentrajkovski7337 you can follow the same steps from the video and just switch the shape and text layer and set the layer to alpha matte
tbh out of all the tuts I came across, this was deffo the best, clear and easy to understand for someone who's learning - ty

Hey Nathaniel, there's a much easier way to do this, using the "write-on" effect in after effects. you should make another tutorial using that
Deji Ayoola can you help me I am having so much trouble

I can say this is 100% safe and easy to use! (Also wouldn't mind any future cracks lol)
Do you know if it is possible to put fade on the trim path ? to show the letters with fade on the edges

Great tutorial. Actually, maybe you can also apply thickness as key frame to solve the problem of g. or some other letters with thin and thick strokes.
smart
it will also make the other first letter to get thinner or thicker as you tweak further letter and will look awful overall.
Bro, thx!
Thank you
You can easily use stroke plugin
