@@jameskaft5233 mostly text yes but there is fonts out there that where they're shapes instead of letters so all you need to do is find a shape font and that should work like normal

Great tutorial - thanks man! :) you probably know that already, but just tbs: while holding the ALT key, you can click on the Anchor Point and change it (for getting easier to another direction - e.g. heart shape) :) thanks again for the video and KR, Heidi

How can I avoid the next letter appearing as the previous letter is on it's final stroke (same font, but between a capital C and an h: 'Ch')

I think so yeh you'd just need to keep checking the width of the stroke brush
I've done this, but the animation stops at the e and restart after a few frames, how can I fix this?
First of all, thanks for teaching us this - very helpful and versatile skill. If only I could show you - I'm having an issue - whenever I'm increasing "brush size" of the stroke, nothing is happening - it remains thin. And also, the markers in the timeline for the Stroke >> End layer appears at 25f on the scale, not like 0.00s as yours. What am I doing wrong?
You need to click on the "tool creates mask" button at the top tool bar (beside the star) before you start making your paths.

I have one question : How to change the colour of the stroke from white to any other colour ?
You select the text tool then highlight all text and change it in the "Character" panel they'll be a coloured box
Love this tutorial! I nearly got my text animation working following your video, I ran into a small thing that kinda bugs me though. As it's writing through the text, certain parts of the next letter start to show before the trace actually gets to it. How can I fix this so it doesn't do that??
For that you'll need to decrease the brush size and readjust the mask lines or you could add a text spacing in the characteristics panel
@@VerticDesigns Okay, so I did try reducing the brush size, but that didn't seem to work. I guess I can try redrawing the mask lines.
@@Breezyonic you can just go back to them, select which one, re-adjust them and check the preview

How to change the size of end and start of stroke, to make it teeny in the ends and more fat at middle?
For that you'd need to set 1 keyframe on the brush stroke size to large (any big number), go further out on timeline and set the second keyframe to small

Yeh that will be fine because maskes work on almost all types of layers. If it doesn't work for whatever reason just save it as a .png

I have white lines appearing on my text as it animates. How do I prevent this?
Somehow it is not flowing smoothly from left to right, it actually starts to reveal the text from the middle of the font.
It will start from your first mask so you need to start on the first letter and work your way down to the end

Clear, but incomplete. The second you easy ease the animation, it starts looking stuttery. The stroke effect has this limitation and now I just spent so much time setting this up and need to try a new technique.
Go into the graph editor and smooth things out.
what about an outlined text?? in desperate need!
3 free options,
1. you can follow the same steps as the video but you'd have to plan out how you want your text to be reveal and you'd need more masks for the inner and outer lines.
2. use masks only, hide all the text and animate the masks opening up with the mask path
3. use saber, a free plugin that you can animate the intro to do a simlar draw on effect however all the letters reveal at the same time
or theres other paid plugins out there like Volna and more on AE Scripts & Plugin
i think there's something wrong with the video...i don't know much about the computer, so it could be on my end, but this video just jumped right into answering the question i searched for. it did not play a 15 second channel intro at 200% volume, and it also skipped the youtube-mandated 90 seconds about why the video exists and what use the viewer might find of it. restarting my computer did not fix it.

Yes, there's plugins out there like the Volna 2 plugin which creates this effect but even better. It's a paid plugin but only a 1 time payment and it's yours for life
So I can just pay for a plug in.. Do I have to have adobe also to use the plug in or just use it with Microsoft..? .(Sorry for my ignorance.. I'm just trying to make credits for my presentation..i.e black screen with white animated text that appears like that and forms sentences.. .. Possibly fadeing out too.
@@conxita99 Yeah I get you and the plugin does require After Effects to be used yes. Or another method would be to find a text template, some are free others are paid but that way it will be easier to customize and use.
