It should be mentiond that the quality of the roto really depends on the video. The backlight here creates a nice outline and brings out the edges of the hair and the contrast between cold backgroud and warm hair color, making it easier for the tool to work. When the contrast isnt strong enough you cant get a good result.
Same here man I was masking frame by frame a video because i didnt trust roto brush at all , lot of gaps. But i was really frustraded so i came to explore a little bit more and find this refine edge. Its incredible
@@TheBonus at some point manual work in after effects becomes absolutely ridiculous to the point where we cant take that manual bullshit and try to find a little more convenient way to accommodate xD
nicely explained simple short effective. Coming from a complete beginner I prefer hundered of these ;short tutorials than the very long ones which takes you on all sorts of steps and the guy mumbling through it all like we supposed to understand all the details. Bravo
I am absolutely shook by this tutorial! You don't understand the pain I have undertaken by manually pen tooling each frame, this is a killer workflow when you are editing footage without using green screen. 10/10 and subbed.
OMG you just change my life, I just got back to after effects, and didn't even know about this, I love it, I really hate frame by frame roto, ty so much
I wish I had watched this before attempting to rotoscope! I had been doing it inverted and couldn't figure out why it wasn't masking properly! I had no idea about refine edges either... Now I'm doing it right! What a relief! Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank You So much! I have spent the past 3 days just trying to figure out how to do something similar to this. It was very useful and easy to follow along.
the reason why this was easy is becuase the subject is seperated from the background by the light. If there was no light back there this would of been harder
unSeenima my point was that this works best when there’s a separation between the subject and the background. Other than that I wouldn’t really recommend doin it this way. What you thought my point was?
+UVStudio The only method that would give you results that you want is doing it manually. All you have to do is throw on some music and you will have a blast lol
I have never had any trouble with Roto Brush tool. Even on really badly lit shots. Its not perfect, but it is way faster than doing it manually. Maybe I am not patient enough to do it manually, but whenever I have tried to do it manually, the mask outlines are never static. Just sharing my experience. A few of my friends also told me that the manual method is the way to go to get the best output, but I can never get a satisfactory result with it.
This is the best tutorial ever - the fact that you use the "zoom in" and the command subtitles to show what you are doing!

I've known about the rotobrush but I had no idea the refine edge brush existed
same here :D

Thankyou so much for this tutorial man, it has helped me so much to prepare for my editing exam tomorrow. I love your work, thankyou. Keep well
the reason why this was easy is becuase the subject is seperated from the background by the light. If there was no light back there this would of been harder
yes, and it's also even harder for you to do it by hand the less contrast there is. what's your point?
unSeenima my point was that this works best when there’s a separation between the subject and the background. Other than that I wouldn’t really recommend doin it this way. What you thought my point was?
@@christophershivers6257 Is there another way of doing it? Unless there is high contrast no masking method works.
