I lived in both Phrom Phong (Soi 24) and Thong Lo (Soi 10). I’m more into Phrom Phong because it’s more convenient, it has the Benjasiri Park, and the 3 malls make a huge difference. But of you ask me what are the most exclusive, the most sophisticated places to live in Bangkok, I have no doubt to remind you of Langsuan road, Wireless Road, and Soi Somkid, all in Chidlom and Ploenchit areas.
@@Holyspace305 To each their own. I find Dubai soulless and artificial, like a city for business people and nothing else. Culture? Nope. Food? Nope. Weather? Nope. Walkability? Nope. Been to 40+ countries and Dubai is severely overrated.
MY BROTHA!!!!! This is the most needed video ever!!!! Thanks so much. We are moving to Bangkok in April and have felt completely lost as to what neighborhood to focus on. Maybe do a drill down on this video with more examples of the things in each neighborhood that went into your review. THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH!
Thank you for this video, I have been wanting to see how all the areas stack up, and i appreciate you pointing out that this is your opinion, which I highly respect. Thanks Paul.
Your ranking is fine, I guess. I've lived here 27 years and am happy you didn't include my neighborhood as I'd like to keep other foreigners out of here as much as possible and keep it off the radar. I've been in the same condo for 15 years and pay very little for a decent 1 bedroom. My area is accessible by BTS and is becoming pretty "bougie" among Thais with lot of new and trendy condos, restaurants, bars and shopping places. Yet, it's still cheap compared to many other areas. When lots of foreigners move in, it drives up prices and annoys the locals.
I am Thai and will choose Ekkamai, Thonglor, Ari. I think Ekkamai, Thonglor is suitable for working age people, while Ari and Ari are suitable for teenagers. that emphasizes chilling and I think that most Thai people would probably see it like this
Awesome list Paul, I also think the Ha Yaek Ladprao area is amazing too! Super good connectivity, has everything a foreigner and local needs and is still quite peaceful. Bonus points for Chatuchak Park which is just around the corner:)
This video is informative for someone like me who plans to move to Bangkok. I kept getting confused by these names, almost as though Bangkok consists of multiple micro-cities. This video is an excellent starting point to explore each neighbourhood further. Thank you!
Great video Paul! We’ve to a few of the places you mentioned; however, my husband and myself cannot wait to experience the places we’ve never been to on this vlog! Thanks for sharing 😊
Nana is kind of the best for professionals in my opinion, it seems like an intimidating nightlife area. But if you work on day time and rest at night. It’s such a perfect location. And the food options there are top notch.
I would rank Sathorn/Silom area higher since 3 BTS station weave through, Lumphini park, fantastic restaurants all around, and less tourists. Plus it’s a short walk to the Chao Pharya. …and in a few weeks Bangkok One opens
I just came home to USA from Bangkok today and my hotel was in Nana, yes I stay because my hotel was cheap price for my two week stay. Saw every district but three.
Hello, Paul. Do you have a recommendation for a condo or an agent in Bangkok? I have a dog, a Shiba(26lbs.) and will likely be moving to Bangkok full time. I have visited before, so not a complete noob. I am subscribed. Many thanks.
Hey Paul, had a question about what you think the best bang for your buck condos are in Thailand, i know you said thonglor is s tier, but if i have a budget for 1k usd a month for everything in Thailand(living eating etc.), is their an S tier value option(do you just have to find deals in thonglor, or is it in another place entirely), really appreciate it, as I want to move to Thailand and want to find a very affordable terrifically priced condo with good amenities, Thanks a lot
I recommend you to check out Suan Luang Rama 9 area, especially around the yellow line BTS station. Nice place, quiet, a lot of food and near the rama 9 park
This is a good list. Punnawiithi is just south me (can't believe you didn't mention On Nut) I have a friend who uses the True Digital Park work space, but it's so expensive! lol...
Asok is definitely at least an A-tier location, being the only BTS station with direct access to both the MRT and the Airport Rail Link. If you’re planning to move here, I’d recommend avoiding the Phra Khanong BTS area. It’s often referred to as the ‘farang slums’ by both low-earning foreigners and locals-not the best place for networking. You’re better off finding a reasonably priced place in a nicer neighborhood. I am a dog owner so unfortunately I do not have many choices when it comes to finding condos but have been living in Thailand since 2017 and I have frequented all of these places and lived in quite a few as well. Ari and Rama 9 are definitely underrated. Thonglo is nice but can feel a little “Asian heavy at times” but I definitely prefer the night life in thonglo vs anywhere else. (American black guy) silom also has some hidden but can be a bit on the hiso side too.
Gonna spend a week in Bangkok in January, first time ever in SE Asia. Would like to live and experience the city as a local. Would an airbnb in a condo by Victory Monument BTS be a good location to easily get around the city ? What about the neighborhood? Thank you Paul, this video came at the right time!
Victory Monument area is definitely a convenient place to travel around the city. However, there may be fewer condo or Airbnb options than other areas in the video.
You skipped a number of neighborhoods. Are you including Bang Rak and Sathorn as part of Silom? What about On Nut or the Thonburi side of the river? Some of us no longer in our 20s or 30s are probably looking for something a little quieter than most of the neighborhoods listed. Ploenchit does have a new day/night market so there is some street food around.

Is this just for short term rentals ? If i were to visit Bangkok for a week with my family ... are these neighbourhoods something i should look into ? Or is that another video?
Bang Na, which unlike Thonglor has a surprising percentage of naturally attractive people that didn't have cosmetic surgery. Many families of factory management seem to live here, so more upper middle class.
the problem i have with thonglor is that there is no park around there and just very small malls phrom phong is actually perfect. you have the EM district and one small park. Benchakitti is also not that far.
If you plan to rent a house and own cars, the quiet eastern suburb Min Buri has many employed expats to socialize with, and street food options. It is north of the big airport. Bangkok is developing fast in the east direction. A second monorail heading to downtown is opening in about a year. However, if you want maximum restaurant and culture options, it is a bit far from downtown. If you don't want to own a car, consider On Nut or Rama 9. If you want to live within walking distance of the best expat hospital in Thailand, and be around people richer than yourself, a Thonglor condo is an option.
May not be a grid-like, American style but anywhere from Phra Khanong all the way to Ari all have modern amenities and you can walk everywhere. Unlike Manila where only BGC (and Makati/Ortigas), the private enclaves, but outside of these private enclaves are all hell holes.
