I was a huge fan of Idol Producer when it first came out, and this is such a weird story, but I actually wrote a university essay about Cai Xukun! Back in 2018 when I started university, I began majoring in Chinese Mandarin, and as part of my cultural classes I took a class in Asian pop culture, and one of my homeworks was to watch the show! (for me it was a rewatch, as I had already seen the show hahaha!) I closely followed Cai Xukun and other idols from the show after its end, and rewatching it from time to time is great Mandarin practice for me. This was a very interesting episode! Despite idolising someone for years, you never truly know a person, and this is true for any celebrity- no matter their status.

I watched idol producer and I thought despite always ranking high, Xukun had a very good personality. He seemed humble and looked after his other contestants. For example, there was a round where he let someone else be the center because he knew they’d probably be eliminated next round and it was honestly so touching.Him and another contestant Ziyi were like the older brothers to their group. They helped them practice and looked after the weaker contestants etc. I was a huge fan watching the show in middle school. But the Asian idol industry in particular is SO good at painting their idols in the best light possible. You can never idolize celebs.
Lay used to call Cai Xukun-“KunKun” or “Little Cai.” He really liked him on the show. I loved Idol Producer. There has never been any other idol survival show that has been this funny and warm. I like the way Stephanie tells the story. She makes it so funny. It’s all the mother’s meddling that makes matter worse. Same thing happened to Chris Wu’s case. When the mothers got involved, they made it worse for their sons.
Love the video! Just to let you know at 16:27 this is a photo of Zhu ZhengTing, not Cai XuKun. He's another contestant on Idol Producer who also debuted in Nine Percent alongside him
i was never a fan of his (or any boy group tbh), but i watched the whole season of youth with you 2 (qcyn 2) in which he was the mc/representative, and he seemed to be a nice guy. i mean he was being supportive to the trainees, showing empathy, sharing his own experiences, and people loved that "gentleman" "'kind senior" figure. Can you plz do the Fifty Ffity vs their label/CEO story? The case is so bizarre that I’ve lost its tracks lmao 😂
It's so bizarre that I now have zero idea on wtf is going on between both of them like who's who
we still don’t have a conclusion and the entire story is so bizarre it’s super hard to get a cohesive timeline
It’s just the guy in the middle messing up both sides relationship
Yes pleasee! Maybe after it actually ends, bcs like, why is it not ending yet ;-;
Omg frfr! It's just so mind boggling at this moment
i love that stephanie talks about these issues in c entertainment, providing a space for sane discussion without being bombarded by fans/keyboard warriors. thank you for covering these juicy stories!
There's a Korean actor that had a similar scandal a few years ago, Kim Seonho. He was starting to gain fame and then his ex exposed him for allegedly forcing her to abort, but it was plot twist after plot twist. I'm not sure if Stephanie's talked about it before
i'm so sad for him, but dispatch bring proof

The idol producer season with Cai xukun and Fang chengcheng was AMAZING
IT WAS THE BEST i loved justin and zhengting sm
Did u ever watching youth with you?? That’s when I started loving him 😅
THE literal best survival show season i've ever watched not only in china but also korea and this is coming from someone who has watched them allllllll
it was the best n rlly wholesome at the time 😭😭😭
The best season. It was like watching a comedy show. And they also happened to sing and dance
Hi Stephanie! That thing when you remember something very differently than how it actually was is called the Mandela Effect.
That was the weirdest, most unhinged series of events that I've heard about when it comes to someone getting canceled 😮 it played out like some kind of drama comedy movie.
so i’ve only discovered stephanie through her other channel, rotten mango (true crime podcast). seeing her laughing and so bright & bubbly is so refreshing 😂
I can't remember anymore if the 227 video brought me over or Bailey Sarian videos suggested Rotten Mango

Despite idolising someone for years, you never truly know a person, and this is true for any celebrity- no matter their status.
you are so cringe.

On Idol Producer (first season) where Xukun joined, the guy who sat at the 1st place was eliminated/disqualified even before the show start airing.
Oh I didn’t know that, what happened?
He was exposed doing/saying something misogynistic (I think, forgot exactly what) caught on a video. If you watch the few first episodes you;'ll noticed someone was blurred out or cropped out of the videos.@@maryam-nusa
Respect for the editing team lol they must work really hard on that episode
Its like a haunted show, someone talking to ghosts only they can see, other people's hands and legs appearing and disappearing out of nowhere. I'd expect to see someone being possessed if I didn't know the reason why.
It’s funny because I’ve been an EXOL (fan of EXO) since 2013 so I’ve watched all the shows that Lay has been in and this just triggered memories 😂 I laughed so hard when he said he was depressed and then right after body rolled to “baby girl~” and Lays comment “I can see you were under a lot of pressure”
I love listening to steph's vids while doing my work, i feel like my friends are talking among themselves while accompanying me all night long

It’s the Mandela effect, Stephanie ❤ such as the Bearenstain bears (I forgot how to spell it lol) being pronounced STAIN bears at the end or the monopoly man not having a monocle
Edit on my thoughts about the topic: You never truly know an idol.

Just to clarify, it's not photoshop, they could have had used Nuke or Mocha, so you don't just photoshop frame by frame, you do a rotoscope and a tracking to edit out Kun. So that's VFX compositor's work, it's still elaborated to do but it would be worse and slower to do on photoshop.

Hey Stephanie can you do one video on Sulli and cyber bullying, sexism etc that haunted her. Her death anniversary is in October. Your video on yoo ah in reminded me of how close both yoo ah in and Sulli were. Song Hye Kyo cancelled her events in 2019 out of respect for her.
