  • This was a really difficult video to make because I am right in the middle of things even if I am not that involved in the plugin market as I was.
    This is bigger than Waves Audio. This is just a case where people saw how this is operated solely as a business without consideration for the audio community.
    The plugin market is crazy and it's been like this for a while when it comes to the content creation side of things. As a small RUclipsr I was often on the verge of making questionable decisions ( for my own personal benefit ) and not looking at the problem.
    This is bigger than just a single plugin company and I believe we should start changing things.

    There are many developers who have great plugins and very fair pricing. Waves do have some plugins that are unique, but their basic EQ and compressors can easily be replaced with something that sounds better in most cases.

    I loved this video, and I fully agree with you and your opinions about us as artists, business and content creators. I'm a small small channel and was way to busy working on clients projects to do a video buy saw many channels making 4 or more videos on this one subject that they would help sell not that long ago

  • @TheMack
    @TheMack Год назад +1

    Very reasonable video. One good thing to come out of this debacle, is that videos are starting popping up, showing available alternative plugins including free ones. Content creators doing those types of videos are, imho, taking the next step. They're looking for solutions, a way forward, instead of trying to catch the hype in favor of video views. A positive side effect is that more people become aware of other really high quality software. Hopefully other corporations takes notice of the poeple's backlash and learn not to repeat this mistake, if they want to stay in business, that is.

    • @2probeats
      @2probeats  Год назад +1

      I’ve always promoted small companies that have great plugins and tried to stay away from the hype but you are “pushed” by your own desire to have a big channel so you want to create content with what makes views.

    I make music for fun and I never bought plug-ins bc they were expensive and I couldn’t choose just a couple, I wanted them all. And I couldn’t justify spending the money on them as it’s just a hobby. So I actually think
    $25/mo to have unlimited access to all these tools is actually really reasonable FOR ME. As a working person $25 is equivalent to a large pizza, so instead of the pizza I’ll have all the plugins I need to take my production to the next level FINALLY. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but this is a game changer for a lot of people and I’m actually grateful I can finally use some plugins I’ve been wondering about forever… I’ll commit to a year and see how it goes.

    Thank you for being honest bro.
    I actually stopped watching RUclips for a few weeks because for one I realized I know how to mix. Now it’s just about knowing the rules and knowing when to apply them.
    But also… I got tired of every time I’m on here… someone’s recommending a new toy… “this will fix all your mix issues” and these companies love when you make them money but can’t check on you when you’re sick smh.
    The whole system is bullshit and honestly I’m tired of waves having a fakeass sale everyday lol.
    Anyways though… thank you for being real. It’s hard enough to make it as an artist/musician without plugin companies scheming on you.
    To anyone reading this.
    It’s fine to spend a few dollars on a plug-in here in there.
    But in truth… you only need about 10 tops. Get to know them REALLY well.
    Don’t fall into the trap of thinking this plug-in will enhance your skill level.
    Mixing is hard and any pro will tell you that you simply have to develop that ear. And it takes years. Much love

    Antares also does subscription, and I really don't get why, because they have such a great competition and their plugins are very limited. I would really play subscription fee for 1 company, but having to pay 4-5 companies just doesn't make sense. With movies you can do "let's have a Disney month and then let's have Netflix for a month", but with plugins you can't do this.

    On the first hand i would say it's a shame you didn't express how awful waves emulations are but then you did work with them. And in fact UAD emulations are pretty poor, at the very best 50% of what the hardware is and i'm being generous. I have not used any waves products for 12 years, i dumped it because of the sound. But you are right in what you say about the business model and thank you for the insight. There are some great ethical plugin companies available. What angers me more is the amount of 'professionals' on social media being endorsed by these huge companies pushing garbage plugins down peoples throats at huge expense when they themselves can't get any work because there aint enough to go around. Hence they are now 'influencers'.

      They did the same with SIBELIUS. AVID bought it and RUINED IT FOREVER. I HATE AVID !!!! Period !!!! Waves and Izotope are not far behind. Slate is the only subscription plan that I’ve accepted and they have actually lived up to their promises… they continually add more value to the sub. plan… they treat people with respect and to me it’s the only WIN/WIN SUB plan that I’ve seen. WAVES has been trying to screw its loyal customers for at 10-15 years… they’ve never once replied to my e-mail’s complaining about my personal situation. I’ve filled out support tickets and nothing. Then they send me a survey asking how are we doing ? I filled more than one out… No response. Only back years ago when they still took phone calls could I at least get acknowledged… but the employees they would let me talk to had no authority/power and none of WAVES crap had anything to do with the person on the phone… So, it’s makes zero sense to get upset with them. I have know for a long time that waves just doesn’t give a sh!t and they haven’t for a very long time. No matter how much I’ve tried to tell them how it feels on our end they won’t respond. They actually deserve to fail, IMO. I don’t want them to… I don’t believe in punishment… just correction. But we’re not stupid and if they acted this way from the beginning I wouldn’t have purchased so many of their plugins. I still regularly use their stuff and I’ve paid thousands over the years… but they lost touch and deserve to reap the UGLINESS that they have sown. I’m done buying new products from them. No more trust… 😢

    I think one thing a lot of people don't realize with affiliate programs. Probably cause of a few things, it's an achievement in certain aspects, it's potential revenue, it's a brand that shows they believe in you which will look more professional. However. It's really just free advertising for them. You get 5 or 10 percent off of a sale that costs them zero to manufacturer. For how many eyes see their product and maybe even buy them not using affiliate links. It's a scam. I've heard you should never do affiliate programs unless they are willing to pay you a flat fee. Not sure how often that actually happens. But yea, affiliate programs are just free advertising for them.

    • @2probeats

    Every week a new “must have” plug is released. Its comical.

    If an individual is a content creator and runs their own audio production business, then they are effectively making money from using the plugins in their productions. So why wouldn't they pay for the plugins themselves, to secure the software they need to run their businesses effectively? As you say... there are lots of plugin companies who are great people, and will run their businesses with integrity, giving out perpetual licenses to creators. Just deal with those developers and forget about the ones who don't treat you right.
