Now In Laos-Don Det-You’ll Never Get Out Of Here Alive!

  • I recently visited a friend in Laos. Laos travel in 2022 is now totally possible. I visit Don Det in the 4000 island’s archipelago and go to the totally awesome Li Phi waterfall, a kind of cross between a waterfall and the biggest set of white water rapids you can imagine, if you fall in the water here you’ll never get out alive!
I also visit the amazing Tad Fane Waterfall at the Tad Fane Resort near Pakse, at first we had no view but what a sight when the mist cleared.

Nice film Karl. The pictures, framing, clarity and colours are excellent. And that's before the amazing content. Laos is a lovely country and people. Remember last year we were discussing an adventure kayaking trip? Still on the radar but not during the rainy season though🙂The Mekhong River was in full flow here - normally much lower and slower. Those rapids/waterfalls were incredible - epic drone shots too. Chok dee! Suksan Wan Gert!

Its been at least 12 or 13 years since I was in Laos and looks exactly the same . I stayed in that same hotel and took that ferry . It look like they changed the planks on the ramp or added more as is common. There is a casino up the hills but I forget where. It allows the Thais somewhere to go and gamble legally. Laos is still the poor neighbour of Thailand but lovely all the same. Really loved this one Karl just for the memories.

I would love to shoot those rapids with just a life preserver but the water probably contains toxic warm water amoebas.

Mal, those rapids are on another scale. I wouldn’t go into them in anything. That place was seriously awe inspiring, the scale of it totally caught me by surprise

@@karlsthailand I think you're right Karl. I've done a lot of canoeing in the US and Canada and I've shot what we call "Class 5" sections many times in canoes and just body surfing - feet first and wearing a life preserver. Those rapids you traveled to are beyond what we would call Class 5. I think they are appropriately referred to as "illegal". lol
