  • @jorgeyhemi5.7
    @jorgeyhemi5.7 7 месяцев назад +122

    For those that don't know, it's mainly cornering speed where F1 cars are miles ahead. They can take Eou Rouge at full throttle around 300km/h (200mph). While GT cars have to lift and can maybe do that turn at around 150 or 160mph. (250km/h). Also, at top speed, the weight of F1 cars allow them to reach top speed in seconds.

    • @azynkron
      @azynkron 7 месяцев назад +9

      Well, you're not wrong but it's both breaking ability and cornering speed that makes the difference. The F1 can break much later than a, in this case, a GT3 car. So, it carries the speed longer and takes the corners faster. That's is what makes is faster around a track.
      The acceleration is almost on par with other racing cars and the top speed is not that impressive either.

    • @jorgeyhemi5.7
      @jorgeyhemi5.7 7 месяцев назад +2

      @azynkron lol braking is no different. Yeah, they might be able to stop a little sooner, but it has no difference 🤣. WEC cars stop just as quickly as F1 cars 🤣. It's corning speed and acceleration that F1 cars are different buddy.

You get every racing category in the world and get them to Spa-Francorchamps to take on that same section (pit straight - Eau Rouge and through Raidillon) 1 after the other foot flat to the floor, the F1 car will be the only 1 to not leave the track. He himself has basically spent a lifetime raising and he said the first time he couldn't even get the tires up to temperature. So he did a bunch of prep for the second attempt a few years later and you still said that he felt like rank amateurs could have flown past him. Your body becomes part of the braking system. The full force of your leg plus the g-force under braking throwing your body into that pedal and you said he never got over two-thirds brake pressure. Three laps and he said his leg was cramping up. Tricky thing about these cars is that they need to be driven on the limit for them to even work properly like you said. Need to go fast enough to cool the car properly, brake hard enough to heat them properly, turn hard enough to get the tires up to temperature and get them to even work. It's either driving super slow at like 10% speed or 95% at minimum to make these even work. Forget in theory. That car can definitely go upside down in a tunnel. Due to its fan system it can generate 2 tonnes of downforce even at 0km/h. The same amount of downforce an F1 car produces at 200+ mph
      Bonkers I hear you say? You're damn right!

Reason Spa is so dangerous is because of the weather conditions. Blind corner full throttle + damp track is asking for problems. Especially with ground effect downforce.
