Evening folks!! Coming at ya with yet another XVI track and grateful to the multiple people who sternly warned me not to listen to this whole thing in its entirety until I reached it in-game, because oh boy did I ever get the context wrong on this one LMAO 😂 anyways, no spoilers until the PC people get their port in 2024, all I'll say about this is that arranging it was a ROYAL pain in the ass because of course I had to stick the vocal line in the midrange and subject myself to voicing hell for many days with my brain breaking as the main melody would cross hands multiple times in unintuitive places, plus also subjected myself to more fast two octave leaps than I would have liked but for some reason I am ALWAYS DOING THIS TO MYSELF so...yeah. what else is new lol.
Also interesting to note the XVI OST doesn't seem to have an obvious flagship theme like Somnus, To Zanarkand, Melodies of Life, The Promise, so I guess this theme would be a good contender as it recurs many times in the game in various forms as Jill's theme, though there are a few other very good contenders as well (Find the Flame, etc). Very possible the devs themselves consider Find the Flame as the flagship theme, since they released that during the promo period. FFXII didn't exactly have a single flagship theme either, come to think of it.
Anyways, I have possibly one or two more XVI tracks in me then it's back to my based PS1 era 90s content lmao, unless Xenoblade 3 takes my brain hostage, which it kinda already has lol, i'm having such a blast with it and LOVING THE CAST SO MUCH!!! ❤️ Thankfully I am only 25% tempted by Baldur's Gate 3 lol....last one I played was Dark Alliance and tbh it was a lot of fun to play with my husband co-op, so I might pick up BG3 on sale later on for the sake of my backlog 😂 anyways, as always, thanks so much in for listening to my stuff and reading my long winded descriptions lol, have a nice evening everyone!! ❤️

I'd like someday to hear your own arrangement of the Final Fantasy's Main Theme. I don't know if you've heard it, but PianoYN made many years ago a really beautiful arrangement, and for many years, for me, has been the best version of them all. I'm sure that you could make something out of this world with that theme, because you breath final fantasy music, music flows from you.
Maybe you don't know how good you are, but you are.

If i may ask: would you upload the exact sheet music you're reading someday? I bought the one you released, but there's little differences (left hand mainly) between that and the one you're playing. Did you improvise it when recording, or its written in the sheets you're reading?

@@creandoCOSASdiy sorry, i do tend to improvise in the moment as I’m playing so I never really follow written sheets exactly, even my own haha, and I don’t remember exactly what I do because every performance is different lol. But all of the important chords, harmonies, filigree and melody and should be there, minor differences in this performance can be figured out by ear, I’m sure!

WOW, that blew my head apart. That was crazy good . The way you took it up about 3 minutes in was just incredible. My SONY sent the sound to the 2 15s in the front and the 2 subs. Man, it sounded like the piano was in the same room with me. And I got 5 minutes this time. Magical performance ✨️ woo-hoo. Spectacular way to start my afternoon .

In all seriousness, you are correct, the main theme here isn't as "flagship" as the ones you mentioned but it hurts even more knowing the story behind it. Composition from harmony to dissonance....it's all there for a reason to embody the character/story. If you have one or two more FF16 tracks left in you then I'd suggestion a piano version of Ascension. That would be AMAZING!
ascension is definitely in the queue somewhere! in talks with a violinist friend to do that one esp since the original used a synth violin

This song gives me such old school jazz / ella Fitzgerald vibes and I love all those runs you did! It makes me feel like I’m in one of those old jazz clubs. If I saw you playing this live I would be cheering so hard!

A masterclass once again; it really sounds like a jazz ballad, but the emotional and Romantic crescendo at 2:59 gives it an additional layer. Really beautiful moment!
I'm kinda discovering the OST through your covers because it didn't strike me as much as XIII for example, for the few tracks I've heard. As you mentioned it doesn't rely on leitmotivs and memorable themes as much as Uematsu or Hamauzu's works.
All of the dominants have leitmotifs that recur throughout the game lol. Like this track is literally a version of Jill’s theme as seen in “currents”, “winter’s bound”, “my lady”, etc.

@@LouisR56 Just to clarify what I mean when I say "flagship theme"--I mean this from mainly a marketing perspective, not a musical or technical one. Somnus, Eyes on Me, To Zanarkand, Melodies of Life, etc. were heavily pushed in the promotional period before and after release as being the so-called iconic themes of the games. Most FF fans would cite them as such. But this has nothing to do with character specific thematic usage throughout an entire body of work (for which the term leitmotif has been co-opted in the vgm space, but one I personally feel weird using outside the context of Wagnerian opera). I state in the description that this is a theme specific to Jill that recurs in various forms and said themes play during specific cutscenes involving Jill, as @xc13runner also stated, and the same is true for other major characters. In that sense this OST is VERY much like 99% of the other FF OSTs by Uematsu, Hamauzu, Shimomura, etc., and serves a similar function to Suteki da Ne being a vocal version of Yuna's Determination in FFX. Just wanted to clear up any confusion that when I use the term "flagship," I am not referring to Soken's character specific thematic usage in the OST itself. Also why I stated in that regard Find the Flame is most likely that theme for XVI because SE published it to streaming services well before the release of the game and promoted it on social media. Sorry for the long reply, just really wanted to clarify because Soken's use of character themes is actually quite rampant in the OST!!!! Thanks so much for the kind words!!

About the flagship theme, its definetly a three way tie between (i will say eikon names for spoilers sake) Ifrit, Shiva and Phoenix. All three reappear in the game in different motifs, mostly shiva and phoenix, phoenix being my favorite, but the rearrangement of Find the Flame as All as One in the final battle was pretty peak.

i’ve been looking for a cover of this song that actually plays the riffs as accurate to the original as possible, (for example at 1:17) this is unequivocally the best one yet.
also no offence to the other covers i just find the original riffs literally exasperating(idk what that word means)
thank you so much!! haha there's a lot in this one that's really hard to translate to piano, despite being mostly vocal and piano, surprisingly--there are many places where it's apparent at least two piano tracks were overlaid, so I don't blame people at all for leaving things out, it just gets so awkward to play/learn.
