I started riding bikes aged around 14 yrs old on a James Comet 98cc two speed hand change. Last year I bought my son a s/h Lexmoto Vixen 125cc so he could get to work. After a few weeks he rang me and said, wow dad, now I know why you like motorcycling. 👍😁
Excellent video and idea for a trip.Just goes to prove you don't need a huge Beemer to have fun. Back in the 80's I restored a D13 Bantam whilst recovering from wrapping a 750 Honda round a signpost. A couple of years later I took the plunge and rode down from Durham on it to the 25th anniversary of the BSA club at Lutterworth near Rugby. I think it took around 8hrs to get there! Met up with some characters including someone with an outfit which was a garden shed. On the way back up the A1 smoke started pouring from a side panel and I pulled up at a truckstop cafe expecting to have to hitch home as I had no recovery. Burnt out wiring. I did my best to sort it out and luckily she started and got me home. Used to flood the crankcase from time to time too, I remember. Eventually did a part ex on it for a Tiger 100 for the wife. HDC 483F was the Banty's number.
I have had a few blown blubs and wires come lose but no meted wires yet touch wood. I will need to improve the headlight one day hopefully without setting fire to it.
Way back in the mid sixties four of us went camping two on Bantams and two on Ariel leaders and although my brother had bored out baffles on his Leader I’ll never forget the sound of those 4 little two strokes going though some of those Welsh villages
In 1966 my dad bought a 1958 Bantam 175cc for me. I was 12. We took the lights and a few other things off, & I rode on 400 acre farm that was near our house.
@@bradwalton7599 do you remember the BSA Trail Bronc? It came from the factory already stripped to the bone. If I only could have scraped together 300 bucks in 1965!
My D14/4 frame's at the powder coaters so looking forward to next year when I can undertake similar trips. Always had more fun on the smaller bikes I've toured on though the belt driven mobylette 50 around the lakes was a bit of a challenge... Enjoyed your video, nice to see it being used well. Sounds nice.
Hi Chris thanks for commenting I accidentally deleted your comment on the primary chain video. I was a bit overzealous deleting some spam comments sorry about that.
The chain will wear at the same rate as the sprockets ,….its a good idea and good practice to change the complete set of sprockets and chain at the same time. Other than that …its a great video !
I own a 1962 Lambretta, so don't know anything about Bantams. I went with my Dad to visit his brother recently, who has just bought a 1955 150 model. I must say, it's a beautiful little bike. For some reason, the bike appears to select 1st gear, but no power goes to the wheel. 2nd and 3rd gear are fine.
That trotts along nicely, ive just collected a B175 that I'm attempting to raise from its long slumber.

I think a lot of Bantams end up being field bikes. My first motorcycle was a Bantam (1964 Model) was a field bike with no lights.

@@bradwalton7599 No worries, easily done. Used to have small YT channel....I had spam, bots etc, a real pain!
My first bike was a D14/4, used to do the exact same thing with the HT cable coming loose at the coil.
Nice to have a classic bike for trips like this,
My next bike a cb350 Honda twin carb was like a rolls Royce after the bantam.

Good Lord, that tent is bigger than your bike haha.
Yep ended up selling it, goes up hills easier now
@@bradwalton7599 LOL, good move mate. With summer coming up in your part of the world I look forward to some more of your camping trips on the Bantam.
Ohhhhh...so that's how straps work!! 😜
Thinking of reliability, every time it rained heavy the bike would stop and wouldn’t go again until she dried out. Never did find out what caused it.
I have only ridden it a few times in the rain so far no issues but I have a new wiring loom on it
