It is something that without control spirals into any opposition being harshly 'delt with'. Diss tracks are Rap Cultures' way of keeping things in perspective and communal. Well now I know who Upchurch is. I always see comments on toms songs saying Upchurch is better. I can certainly sympathize with feeling awkward when you like both people involved - Cliff Beats said very much the same thing in his reaction. Me, I'm diehard #HOG, so I definitely have my bias in the matter. That being said, while Tom is breaking the Internet by putting out the ultimate troll on the music industry with Ben Shapiro, Upchurch is putting out a diss track of Tom. So you tell me who's winning and who's not. I'm going to laugh if Upchurch keeps putting out diss tracks, and reactors keep saying Tom HAS to respond (which I've seen several reactors say), and Tom just completely ignores him - because let's be real, Tom's already responded. The title of the song is "No Response". But that's just my thoughts - what do I know?
The thing about not responding to diss tracks is that it doesn't make them go away.
Upchurch is not some no-name artist getting 1,000 views. Hundreds of thousands of people have heard the track at this point, and despite your intimate knowledge of how Tom doesn't do diss tracks, the average listener is just waiting for the response. No response, and people will be disappointed. Hopefully Tom dosent disappoint...

But I gotta be honest, I'm a white boy from Montana who's never been big into rap, so I find the whole idea of diss tracks to be stupid and childish - and yes, that includes Tom's disses of Mac Lethal, which are easily my least favorite of his songs. @Ryancrownauthor I get that, heres my pov. Some people think football is childish, but if you're gonna play football, there are rules. In Rap, there is no referee, and the artists keep each other honest. If not, people can find themselves in a mob and not even realize it. Mobs are dangerous and don't operate on logic. This is why we have a 'music industry'.
Power-hungry people figured out long ago that controlling music is orchestrating a mob. It is something that without control spirals into any opposition being harshly 'delt with'. Diss tracks are Rap Cultures' way of keeping things in perspective and communal. It is a way to move people's opinions through words on wax instead of with violence in the street.
I feel that being independent only amplifies the need for peer regulation, else artist can walk their mob into doing harm to others or themselves.
Tom running around in Cowgirl fit while acting like he is country alone was out of pocket. Him being pro, whatever gets him more album sales, gets peoples attention. Him putting out rap tracks and proclaiming 'I'm the best' implies he will prove it... except he isn't proving it. Which is disappointing.
