I stumbled upon these videos a year or so ago. I'm originally from Massachusetts it's nice hearing someone talk in my native accent and speech. It's like having my mechanic dad teach me about HVAC and Heating.
Just because outside unit says txv , don't mean crap, I think you should make sure what your working with first, but damn thing in the attic , I don't blame you, but head pressure pretty high , and subcool pretty high
You could have checked that TXV by unplugging the condenser fan and watching the suction pressure as the high pressure goes up. If the low side is stable the TXV is working.
What if the bulb isn’t wrapped what about tapping the txv to maybe break it loose so many steps to take before adding refrigerant that head pressure is so high it might not have even been tested at that high of a pressure
True, to me if i saw that subcooling of 17F on a system running all day but the superheat is at 50 I'd run the system with the blower door off and no filter (not in the attic..) and see if the TX valve can regulate.. vapor line temperature is high causing the misreading on SH due to lack of airflow.. first clue was the customer going on about pleated filters and MERV ratings.. But then again you can only do so much with guys that call you up then when you show up are skeptical of the evidence right in front of them.. But if you look at the coil and it's a block of ice its all a waste of time until its melted off the coil. Run the heat for 15 25 minutes.. With a customer like that who knows what theyve messed with lol
Good job Steve. Have tried re nu for 410a to help the txv? That help fix txs bring pressures down. I had one like you had last year and that fixed it. Only problem. Is you need a tool for it though.
This guy is Awesome. I love listening to him talk what is on his mind freely while recording himself. Could be worse. Tell the customer to quit being cheap. Clean the fins every other year with maintenance. And hope its not some piece of shit capacitor for a fan motor, or compressor made in Mexico or China. Fuck those go out every year or 2 damn near.
Txv wide open high suction. txv closed low suction but normal subcool most of the time. I've changed compressors due to dirty indoor coil bringing liquid back and snapping compressors.
Question why should you have to add refrigerant too systems. When they're a sealed system? I have been told you only have to add refrigerant when you have a leak pin hole or what ever? But like in this video you added refrigerant but you said nothing about a leak in the system. Almost like adding oil to a car that is down a little? Thanks
Payne untit with txv i had the same problem just put the bulb on my hand and leave it separate from suction line and the presion much better and no mopre freeze but i know that txv is in bad chape
Could i ask about metering device is located in up there or close with the filter drier and cobdenser. I cannot find the metering device at my AC condenser Thanks sir
metering device is at the air handler at end of small liquid line before coil // at coil .. probley under cover in inside unit if its a piston it will be small or maybe a txv thermo expansion valve would be bigger .both would be inside the air handler unit indoors
@@stevenlavimoniere Thank you so much sir for your explain . . Im just want to try to learn the HVAC training. Before i go to trade school im jst learning from RUclips first and try to understand basic of the system . If i have any question please could i get chance to ask for HVAC knowledge 🙏
@@hughholt121 that is what I thought, but when he describes it, he makes it sound like the labor alone is 325, for a total of 525. It's a head scratcher. I'm gonna listen again.
Subcooling was high before he even added refrigerant. Check temp drop across dryer and warm sensing bulb with hand and check if txv responds significantly. Sense he’s retired I’d check to see if he inadvertently choked airflow by closing off supply registers in empty rooms thinking it would cool more efficiently.
R410 systems I see maximumum design pressure on coils of working pressure 450 psi, abnormal pressure 600psi. at the condenser high 450/low 250psi and 700psi max abnormal wp.. But i've also seen copper withstand 900+ psi burst and it was fine
Maybe it is because my unit is slightly oversized 4.5 ton unit down in SWFL, but I'm running MERV 13 on all 3 of my ducted returns and have no issues with airflow or efficiency. The house next door is smaller sq ft, has a 3 ton unit and 1 return centrally located in the middle of house - also lived there for years and had no issue running a MERV 13. Y'all are likely running smaller units up in the Northeast
@@ryanglaser5336 I live in southern North Carolina and summers are brutal here. I have a Trane XR AC unit. I use merv 11 because I have 4 pets and need extra filtering capabilities.
Id tell that guy to go in the fucking house. People who know just alittle bit are dangerous. Subcooling was out of whack out the gate. He mentioned lines sized wrong later in video. Seems like this is becoming more of a common issue
Head way to high...how hot is it outside? I bet it's the txv.. looks like you have enough refrigerant in the system... it's just nothing going through its cycle. Adding more refrigerant is making the suction pressure go up and the head go way up.
Steven, you always mention the helicopter type, you have 177 subscribers and numerous views you have multiple helicopters looking over your shoulder every video guy 🤷♂️
People helicopter because they are afraid the contractors are going to do the work half ass! There are good contractors out there but unfortunately a lot of times if you don’t watch you may wind up not getting what you paid for.
"He knows just enough to be dangerous." 😁
your not hanging meat up there ,are you ! customer's laugh was questionable ? your a riot steve.

You choking the shit out of the system lol 😹 I love it
😂 “super heat at 25, that’s what we want” meanwhile the head is sitting at 450psi. Thanks for the video Steve!

If I told people here in the south that they couldn't turn their AC below 70, they'd tell me to GTF outta here. lol
You could have checked that TXV by unplugging the condenser fan and watching the suction pressure as the high pressure goes up. If the low side is stable the TXV is working.
You can also block off the condenser coils with some scrap cardboard. Easier.
@@derekgroth6327 Yep... if you have cardboard.

Hello Steve!
Man I wish people would pay 100$ a pound here in the south for 410-A! Man! It's like pulling teeth around here to get anything approved lately!
Date of manufacture is April, 2011
Good job Steve.
Hello Steve and Molly
Should you have noticed the presence of a TXV and done something differently, before adding coolant?
I can breathe with 6 mask Steve. I am built different 😏
Always good advice…don’t be a dumb dumb!

Two questions, is there a leak or you think it was undercharged?
Nice work

Hey Steve, how long was that service call from end to end? According to your quote, it sounds like around 2.5 hours?
One hour labor @$125 + 2Lbs 410a freon @$100 each =$325 dollars

Heck yeah bro 👍
What is that brand called again???
Are compressors generally robust enough to operate longer periods / years at the 450 ish head pressure range?
It's r 410 newer refriengents are usually 300+ range compressors are meant to pump high gas but can't take back liquid
Its way to high. He will be back.

SH wouldn’t be over 50 if it was frozen, I’d have at least checked though to verify TXV or piston lol
