Honestly she is the only actress in the world that I hate watching in EVERYTHING- I can’t stand everything about her, including her permanently “pained” facial expression, self-absorbed ego that shows through every part she acts, even the pretentious name her parents gave her. Star Trek is my favourite TV show & I couldn’t wait for the new one. So you can imagine my joy when she was cast as the main part in STD. Fortunately the show is unwatchable even without her joyous contribution.

Burham is the only person crying, even at funerals. It's just look too silly if more of these professionals cried and bummed out each other.... Crying means extreme reaction, a crying soldier is sent home and not kept with their finger near weapons... I'd respect the writers if they showed Burham being told to take month off or showed her being incompetent for being so non calm . We all know drunk crying people shouldn't operate machinary let alone phasers..... it's a wacky character, I guess she's like an ancient Vulcan overwhelmed by emotions..

I remember watching an episode of TNG. It was the one where Picard goes home to recover from his Borg enslavement. At the end of the episode, Picard breaks down in tears in front of his brother. The moment made my heart ache because Picard was always so stoic and unflappable. It took a lot to get him to react emotionally, and that’s what makes him breaking down in tears more poignant and sympathetic. The crew of Discovery cry at the drop of a hat and you just can’t empathize with them because their constant tears gets annoying.

Yeah, I was actually psyched about season 3 but I’m in awe only how much of a fuck up it is from the writing of the characters, the overarching story and almost everything.
It’s like they had no good ideas at all and just mashed some stuff together with melodrama on top.
Just terrible. Weakest season of any Star Trek show I’ve ever watched.
      What a waste..
It could’ve been so good and interesting..
I’ll still keep watching though with small glimmer of hope that it gets better but after 6 episodes of “We don’t know what to do but cry about stuff” I don’t expect much anymore.
As a lifelong Star Trek Fan I’ve never felt so disappointed tbh.
I mean sure, the Kelvin movies were meh but it was still Trek.
The last two TNG movies were meh but it was still Trek.
Archer’s Enterprise that wasn’t popular was classic Trek to a T with obvious caveats from going back instead of going forward but it was still good and enjoyable.
But Discovery Season 3? Oh my god...
It’s like they purposefully are trying to destroy a franchise at this point because no one in their right mind can be so unimaginative and bad at writing after decades of Trek.

That's one thing I have to disagree with. Yes, she was rasied on Vulcan, and taught to supress her emotioins. But She is not a Vulcan! She hasn't got the luxury of generations of emotional supression like actual Vulcans do. She is still human, and therefore has fragile human emotions. So it makes sense for a woman who has supressed her emotions for so long, to finally come to terms with them at very emotional situations. My only problem Is the extreme volume of emotions that she seems to display in every episode as of late. It get's a bit too much to deal with, when every other scene is her balling her eyes out.

I was so frustrated with STD (!) especially this Burnham character and the woman who plays it, right from the first episode. Then I found that it's this woman who plays it. She's awful and must be thrown into a wormhole never to return. I was praying the whole time, I am Trekkie and have seen 3 or 4 times ALL the Start Trek franchise/episodes including the animated series. Now, the ghost of Gene Roddenberry has answered and that woman was sent where she belongs. And the season ended on a brighter note, I am happy to say. I only hope I will get to watch STD (! again!) without cringing whenever that awful face with more awful dramatic expressions appeared. Now, I think I can get back to watching STD (! okay I guess this time) with popcorn and soda and with a relaxed Trekkie attitude. Somewhere in deep space I can visualize Spock nodding his logical head, positively.

I was thinking why I always want to skip the bs talking moments in discovery, and why it never happened in TNG.
And I got it, they never talk about how they feel in old traks, the showed it in decision making during episode progression, depending on situation. It was never 5 minute brake with portrait shoot of every crew member talking about how their feel.
In old traks relationships between crew members was something you we're not allowed to see, because they were on duty. That's why to see full episode of Data doing his regular stuff was so exciting, because you kind of get to see some backstage. Same with Riker and Troy, Pickard, Worf etc. They were professionals. Discovery is more like a vessel of a emotionally unstable teens.
I don't want to be the guy who says that everything new sucks. It's more like self analysis of what's so irritating in this show

The way people spoke and conducted themselves in TNG was actually one of the biggest appeals of the show to me. Everyone seemed so emotionally mature, even Worf who -- in spite of his Klingon rage and stubbornness -- would often be able to calm himself and speak openly soon after he got upset. I think the way the crew member conducted themselves so professionally on duty also set up many hilarious moments of a kind very unique to the show.

Crying on demand is the province of really good actors. As is laughter, or... any other display of emotion. Sonequa Martin-Green is a very fine actor. The production’s focus on her weeping is a scripting/directorial/editing miscalculation. This wonderful actress looks a fool because her ability to cry is wielded as a blunt instrument-like an attempt to badger audience expectation in a certain direction. (In the absence of other merit.)
Or, as you say; the actors deserve better writing. (And so does the audience.)
