Georgiou was a great character. She was a horrible person by the Prime Universe standard but she was a successful, extremely competent Terran. Showing just a modest amount of empathy and compassion is fatal. When she thought the Guardian was going to send her back to the Terran Empire she balked. Like Darth Vader or Ebenezer Scrooge, her former life was no longer want she wanted: the story redeems her. I'm not a religious, but I do believe in redemption.
She tried to reform the Empire. It would never have been the Federation and we know from the reforms that Spock successfully implemented years later that it might have caused the fall of the Empire but maybe she could have reformed it and kept it together. We don’t know but I think she would still have failed because they weren’t ready. The Terrans needed their subjection by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance to reform. I’d be curious to see what the status of the mirror universe was in the 32nd century.
Great character yes but the empress was still involved in the deaths of MILLIONS of species and dozens and dozens of civilizations. Karma transcends even dimensional time shifts. She appears to have totally changed her ways but can you IMAGINE the karmic retribution she has to cleanse herself from moving forward? No one gets a pass for that kind of deviancy and murderous resume. She better do A LOT of GOOD moving forward (even in Section 31).
At this point, georgiou has the best of both worlds. She now has the compassion and love that Prime georgiou has, and has the strength, will, and toughness of her Terran side.
I hope they cross paths again. Discovery without Phillipa.... I don't know, might take me a while to wrap my head around. She was my favourite thing about the show.
@Daniel Zhang I hope so. I like their relationship. They might have been from different universes but they were the perfect Michael and Phillipa for each other. Unlike the ones from their own time lines. Seems like a waste to give that dynamic up.

People are complaining about how Michael cries to much and I have to say based on the situations her crying is quite human. Maybe she is placed in to many situations where she cries, but that is the script. Any human would cry in those situations. The belief that tears are a sign of weakness rather than a need to release stress, to allow you to function at your best is the real problem I see here. Once people recognize the true purpose of tears then they may be able to cope better.
For the record I will really miss the Terran Emperor. She add a great deal to this show. Will definitely look out for Section 31, Phillipa always want Leland's job anyway. I hope they begin where discovery disappeared and Lealand is gone.
Also they're forgetting that Michael grew up on the Vulcan planet and has been suppressing her human emotions which is quite understandable why she's always emotional now.
Eloquently put. I also think about the fact that Michael spend years repressing emotions on Vulcan when it's not natural for humans to do so. She's more than earned her right to express her emotions, and she's not the only one who does. At least she does so constructively rather than destructively. And I can say from a personal perspective, that I spend decades repressing my own emotions in order to shoulder other people's, something I never should have done. Now, I cry more times than I ever have in my life, even if it's when I'm alone, something I would have disdained as a younger person. It's realistic.
This scene broke my heart so much...because I knew it was the end of Phillipa's run on Discovery... It's bittersweet because we know Michelle Yeoh is getting a Section 31 spin-off...but, it still makes me sad. I love the character development of the Mirror Georgiou. It was beautifully executed, and I am sure it will continue on to her spin-off. This scene was extremely powerful. The writing for this season has been absolutely amazing. So many complaints about Michael getting emotional all the time. Did any of you ever think that this is a big step in her emotional growth to experience emotions in a less controlled way after spending her childhood and formative years being raised as a Vulcan?
My favorite Star Trek (and TV show of all time) is DS9. In many ways, Discovery is DS9's legacy more than any other Star Trek because of how the characters of Discovery, like the characters of DS9, are allowed to be people, not just soldiers. There are a LOT of tears in DS9, including from Captain Benjamin Sisko himself. He even cries in the first episode. People need to understand that if you're thrown into such high-stress, high-anxiety, tragic moments to the degree that they are, you're going to either become an unstable force getting angry and pushing people away or having empathy and releasing those emotions more usefully. Both Discovery and DS9 know how to balance.
Georgiou's growth and development in this series is one of my favorite aspects of the show. I'll miss her, but this send off was great, especially her newfound respect for Saru/Kelpians.
On the subject of future tech, there's a fan theory that the reason why subsequent iterations of Star Trek, even those set in the "past", have increasingly advanced technology is due to contamination from time travelers. Which is why the NX-01 and the USS Discovery both look more advanced than the USS Enterprise in TOS (or even the USS Enterprise in the first six movies).
Imagine Terran philippa would have been send back in time, joined starfleet and become the philippa who died at the hands of the Klingons. Now that would have been a damn good character arc end and changed the quality of this series to a Christopher Nolan level.
I love that idea but she would have to appear on baku in the briar patch for a for at least 70 years and live quiet life before become young enough to appear as a cadet as young Philipa and do the rise through ranks to captain. Which her terran up bringing would be useful in spotting chances to rise
and people wanted Michelle(Phillipa) gone so bad im bruh i wish they flushed out her character more before doing this but this was a nice sendoff and im glad she actually learned and even helped Mirror saru whereas in original mirror timeline she ate them
And the stage is set for Georgiou's return in "Section 31". I predict that movie will set the stage for a new Star Trek series!!! Funny, you could see this bond developing between Michael and Philippa during Discovery. Combining the best of Captain and Emperor Georgiou, this Philippa is wonderful!!!
@@dejanstarwars10 If anything I think it will still be TOS era where she links up with Ash Tyler and Prime Lorca (every fan wants him back, what is the reason not to?). Some guessed ENT or even First Contact but I think that will be too far back in time which will have still killed her.
We will see Philipa for sure , how the "Carl" the guardian said " i am sending you where the prime time (universe) is aligned with mirror universe . Let say she have to correct something in mirror universe and i think so it will be not a meeting w Vulcans . But something what have to do before plot against her and Lorca escape to prime universe To complicate because everyone is mentioning a romulan mining ship
It is just a theory that I came up with watching the scene. Is it possible that Terran Philipa and the Prime one is the same person? After discovery left the mirror universe, there are many scenes that show her empathy, kindness, and character development. She might got sent back to be the prime Philipa. It’s just my thought tho
She's gone to be in Section 31. So, they may say she's Prime Georgiou even though she's not (like they were doing before in Season 2 of Discovery). This version just learned empathy, that's all.
I always wondered how they could possibly do a Section 31 show with Phillipa, esp if she traveled with discovery to the 32nd century, now that she was sent back, i guess now i know.
Here’s the thing. When Georgiou dropped her guard and her ruthless pragmatism, you knew it would be when they had to say goodbye to the character. I knew this in Season 2. Hopefully they go through with the spin-off. Maybe it will be about her trying to get the Terran Empire it’s soul back by fighting with the resistance. A good way to bring Lorca back too.
Must have been remarkably difficult for the writers to resist giving this response to Michael: "I know. I'm great." Instead, Michael implies this when she basically says, "you too."
Haven't really heard anything new about the Section 31 spinoff..hope that happens or they find a way to bring her back. She was my favorite thing about DSC.
I don't understand those who disparage DISCOVERY ... I've watched and enjoyed EVERY Trek series, and EVERY movie ... As Trek fans, I think it's incumbent on all of us to keep an open mind as the Star Trek "universe" grows, and changes, and NOT expect each new series to follow the mold of any prior series ... I bet that's what "the great bird of the galaxy", Gene Roddenberry would have hoped for ... I loved the Burnham-Georgiou relationship ... It had to end sometime, and what a beautiful ending it was ... my wife and I were in tears ...
Yes, losing a parental figure forever is quite often something humans get upset over. Especially if they've had to do it before. People who suppress their emotions in that situation usually end up with abandonment issues. I'll never understand why it's fine for Sisko to cry, but not Burnham
I appreciate the notion that we shouldn't judge those who have lived in a profoundly different universe by the same standards as our own. Do we regard the Terran Georgiou as a despot who used her powers to massacre countless helpless and innocent people and deprive others of basic liberties or should we consider the degree in which her character evolved as she began to live in a more ethical Prime universe? This is not a theoretical question. Historians and philosophers still debate whether slaveholding founding fathers like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and others should be viewed harshly for their role in personally benefitting from the labor of those they enslaves or should we say, different century, different standards? It's a debate on which reasonable people may, but clearly the people behind STD have given us their take.
I think whether or not they are "bad" people isn't what we're supposed to focus on. Instead STD argues that people who have done awful things in the past have the capacity to change. It reminds me of Supergirl, where a lot of this show is reaching out to your enemies can bring peace.
Georgiou will get sent back in time, not only to give rise to the events that will become the stories of the Section 31 series, but also early enough that when those events wrap up, and she's evolved as a character, she'll be given command of the USS Shenzhou. Revealing that Mirror Universe Phillipa Georgiou and the Prime version were always one in the same, just at different points in their life, and in adjustment to the prime universe and star fleet/federation life. As well, Captain Pike, Serek, and a few others would have always known this, But "The Emperor" will learn this as an "official back story", including "life in the academy" are fabricated to cover for her true origins when dealing with anyone else not in the circle of knowledge, including when dealing with the younger iteration of of Georgiou during the events of the end of the Klingon/Federation War, up to Control. She will also feel obligated to watch over, and mentor the younger Michael Burnham of that timeline, not only out of sentiment, for both versions that she knew, but also for the sake of maintaining the future timeline, even if it means her end, in the events that are Discovery's pilot episode. Maybe she knows that she's slowing dying anyways from her crossover condition, which could explain why she doesn't display the physical abilities as "The Captain" that she once had as "The Emperor", and saw this as a good, and more meaningful way to go than just waiting it out, as trying to change anything would only make things worse. Even more than if Klingons ate her corpse after, as it would affect the timeline which could have negative effects on her condition . *Shrugs* It could also explain why she saves Saru from his world when he called out to the stars. Not only doing it to preserve the timeline, but because she has seen his potential from a time that hasn't happened yet for any body else, that she has visited. A sharp contrast to her long abandoned belief about Kelpians.
@@blackrahk2037 Do the writers care so much about that though? At least when it comes to a single character, who's meant to have "unique" characteristics? We could just as easily find out that we never knew the Prime Universe Georgiou and they did exist for a time, but died long before they could enter Star Fleet Academy. Meaning that there was a Prime Universe counterpart, but the version that we knew through out was still all from the Mirror Universe just taking on the role of someone from the Prime Universe after dealing with the Guardian of Tomorrow and Section 31.
Nolan White, Very well thought out exegesis there, save one salient fact. There's not going to be a Section 31 series. There's simply no demand for it (nor has there ever been) based on the pitiful ratings that the network has tried to conceal for as long as possible, for every show in the Prime Universe. Also, importantly, there's no money for such a creation without a ready provider of international distribution rights. Frankly, you'll be lucky to see much, if any, of SNW, let alone this fantasy. By all means, though, I've no desire to dissuade anyone from enjoying what's left, for as long as CBS/Viacom can stave off crying uncle.
I kind of wonder what will happen due to the changes in the time line by returning her back to the point of where the universes were alligned. If she changes the past events for example: Lorca escaping to the other universe. (He selected the dicovery crew based on the dobbelgangers who were loyal to him in the mirror verse) Michael joining discovery The incidents that lead to a functioning spore drive etc.... The butterfly effect would be massive.
I hope season 4 some essence of Phillipa will be present. Maybe she leaves a message for discovery to be delivered after she left. Or created an organization that will help discovery in the future.
Steve Gillings, There's no evidence of that happening, whatsoever. I'm not about to debate the virtues of any of the programs generated by individuals who openly professed their disdain for the franchise. The plain truth is that there never has been anything more than a very limited, if devoted, audience for Kurtzman Trek and without any money coming from international distribution rights, anything more than a short-term future for this regime, isn't in the cards, thankfully.
@@OptimusWombat adding to that, the temporal war of 30th century probably spanned several millennia form the Guardians perspective. That ought to be enough to want to do things differently.

What bugs me is that when we originally saw the Guardian in TOS, it was unable to send a traveler to the precise time and place they wanted, which would have saved Kirk a lot of grief had it been able to. But it's able to do that here.
Perhaps the Guardian learned to do that in the ~ 900 years since TOS. Also, the temporal wars may have acted as a shortcut to doing things it hadn't done before.

probably not since her body is healed upon mirror and prime being connected but she might have a time limit if it seperates at its origin
Doubt it. She is gone and I'm really sad now lol.
But on the bright side, she will get her own show and man am I excited!
@@dejanstarwars10 If anything I think it will still be TOS era where she links up with Ash Tyler and Prime Lorca (every fan wants him back, what is the reason not to?). Some guessed ENT or even First Contact but I think that will be too far back in time which will have still killed her.
@@dejanstarwars10 wait wut? :D
@@adampytlik8453 It's official! She is getting her own show soon. No details yet, except that it will revolve around Section 31.
We will see Philipa for sure , how the "Carl" the guardian said " i am sending you where the prime time (universe) is aligned with mirror universe . Let say she have to correct something in mirror universe and i think so it will be not a meeting w Vulcans . But something what have to do before plot against her and Lorca escape to prime universe
To complicate because everyone is mentioning a romulan mining ship
Perhaps some while after the first contact, right before founding of earth starfleet, and she will found Section 31 and prevent the controll Thing 🤔
I didn't want her to go! :(
If I were Burhamm I would say: You and the Phillipa from my universe are two different people to others. But to me, your both one in the same.
Even terrans have a emotional side
Haven't really heard anything new about the Section 31 spinoff..hope that happens or they find a way to bring her back. She was my favorite thing about DSC.
Georgiou got a good send-off. Wherever and whenever she ended up, we can be sure of this much: She's gonna give 'em hell 😆
Paul Guilfoyle was THE perfect actor for this
God. This scene was so amazing
Sighs ... one of the biggest reasons I continue to watch Discovery is now gone.
I like how georgiou changed and became good i hope somehow she comes back for a couple episodes later and somehow has her son husan back
I don't understand those who disparage DISCOVERY ...
They should do a 2 season star trek, with philipa.. she would kick ass
Hopefully Phillippa returns
Of course burham feel emotional. She's parting with her mother.
It’s CRYING TIME again
Yes, losing a parental figure forever is quite often something humans get upset over. Especially if they've had to do it before.
People who suppress their emotions in that situation usually end up with abandonment issues.
I'll never understand why it's fine for Sisko to cry, but not Burnham
its the best startrek ever ! A idea for the future ,star trek TERRAN , with the great phillipa
"TIME HAS RESUMED ITS SHAPE. ALL IS AS IT WAS BEFORE. MANY SUCH JOURNEYS ARE POSSIBLE. LET ME BE YOUR GATEWAY."
Best mother daughter tag team ever.
Can't wait for the section 31 movie and seeing Philipa I hope it's the Philipa that the guardian of forever sent back.
such an incredible scene
So a setup for a spin off show I presume?
Glad to know that Malaysia (some part of it) survived after world War 3 in Star Trek (mirror & prime)
I ship this shit so hard
@@40yearsnopie I guess it depends upon who the enemy is. We may choose our friends but rarely do we have the option of choosing our enemies.
If you like the show, don’t refer to it as STD. It’s not a sexually transmitted disease. Use DSC or DIS instead.
@@40yearsnopie Not STD. Haters call it that. It’s DSC or DIS.
@@thomashong2938 What do you suggest I call the planet Uranus?
Michelle Yeoh is an absolute beast, and was the perfect choice for the Terran Emperor Georgiou.
Terran Georgiou will get her own series.
All depends on scheduling. Michelle Yeoh's got a role in Marvel's ten rings storyline that starts with Shang Chi. So who knows.
We were indeed promised a section 31 show
Phillipa was the best character in the entire series!!!!!! I hope to see her again, ..maybe in Section 31 Series????

She's getting her own Section 31 series.
will we be seeing Phillipa again?
*Shrugs*
It could also explain why she saves Saru from his world when he called out to the stars.
Not only doing it to preserve the timeline, but because she has seen his potential from a time that hasn't happened yet for any body else, that she has visited. A sharp contrast to her long abandoned belief about Kelpians.
BRUH What?! There has to be a PRIME AND MIRROR representation. cant have a one sided coin.
"Before you run out of time"
But isn't that the Guardian of Forever? No running out of time when you have that thing next to you.
I kind of wonder what will happen due to the changes in the time line by returning her back to the point of where the universes were alligned. If she changes the past events for example:
Lorca escaping to the other universe. (He selected the dicovery crew based on the dobbelgangers who were loyal to him in the mirror verse)
Michael joining discovery
The incidents that lead to a functioning spore drive etc....
The butterfly effect would be massive.
What if the changes she makes restore the Prime TOS Enterprise?
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa im gonna miss her
The Vulcan Goodbye
I hope season 4 some essence of Phillipa will be present. Maybe she leaves a message for discovery to be delivered after she left. Or created an organization that will help discovery in the future.
The exit is a prelude to her on the Section 31 Show which will be rolled out.
''Tell the People your about to meet Now'' Yeah tell the people who've been Dead for Centuries about San.
''Tell the People your about to meet'' Yeah tell the People who have been Dead for Centuries.
I am kinda confused: why isn't the crew of the Discovery trying to find a way to go back to the past?
Alternately, because the program's future is on very thin ice.
Spoil it for me is she going back to pike’s time? Is that how she appears in the section 31 movie?
So the Guardian was just messing with Kirk and Spock when it said it couldn't stop at one point in time?
The guardian has gotten a lot wiser in 900 years.

🤮 Laying it on thick with the Michael praise again, but also basically confirming she will be Captain soon. I suspect Saru will get Vance's job.
Like vance will die in a battle against the chain kinda like that Admiral in Season 1 of that shitty looking ship the Europa. But I like vance he is a nice admiral unlike those admirals in tng hahahahhaha, but I'm thinking that this is an unsanctioned mission and that saru will be reprimanded by the admiral of course since Tilly is first officer she gonna take that seat but she wouldn't so Michael will take the seat

why did the gateway disappear?
because the guardian of forever is hiding.
@@seymssogood Indeed and as stated 900 years before the temporal wars flared up and forced the Guardian to go into hiding to avoid being discovered and falling into enemy hands.
