I thought of FF7 as soon as I saw the title for this. One of Sephiroth's attacks literally destroys the entire solar system planet by planet before getting to (Earth?) - only to deal x amount of damage, and for him to pull the exact same attack out of the bag a few minutes later.
What most people don't realise, unless you watch their behind the scenes and all that, is that they usually record multiple skits in a single sitting. This game world does seem rather full of dramatic, time consuming spells (That enemies generally just let you cast) that are full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. They do generally do very little damage for how dramatic and slow they are to cast. I mean sure, it's not unusual for games to have dramatic moves and spells that seem to imply massive destruction, but nothing happens to the area at large, and a lot of enemies shrug it off. I remember in Ultima VII, the ultimate spell (Armageddon) actually was world-ending. Use that spell, and Lord British is the only one left alive besides you on the entire world.
Does anyone remember the original Ultima games, before they went online? Among the many spells in your spellbook, there was a spell called Armageddon. And it was described as pretty much what it sounds like, end of the world. You could cast it at any time, not just in battle. And for those who let curiosity get the better of them and cast the spell, it…did exactly what it said it would. Flames, explosions, everything destroyed, everyone dead. It was kind of amazing, having that ability and not using it. Sometimes, you would be only survivor of the spell (save one), and you could wander around the entire game world, and everything and everyone would be dead. No quests could move forward. And if you ran into Lord British, you got the chastising of all time. Now THAT was an end of the world spell.
I was actually expecting that to go in a different direction. I was thinking the meteor was going to come down and end just being a small pebble that bounces harmlessly off their enemy.
@@insaincaldo It‘s a very old game series, which brings its own kind of good/bad rating. Usually you need to be either a fan of old games or have enough nostalgia to not bother about every tiny thing that is not matching modern standards. But for its time it was one of the famously great series and a lot of people love it to this day. I just mentioned it here as Ultima IX had the opposite of what happened here as a plot point: the hero had to cast a spell that normally destroys the world (which he can do at any point) in a way that kills the bbeg, but not the world.
I haven't heard about the Ultima series in a long while. Nostalgic for sure. How about rhe Wizardry series? I remember buying a fantasy box set back in the day. There was a book about an inch or so thick. You had to reference that a lot of times for info on events in the games. Glory days!

This would be such an epic game ending, you have to sacrifice not just yourself but everyone you know and met in game
He should use your more powerful spell given by mother nature!
"HOLY NOVA"
Just press "C".

At least meteor seems to be level 2...
@@jamesgravil9162 Sorry what was that? 🤨
Baelin looked up and saw the meteor: Mornin'!
Grabs his fishing pole. "Nice day for fishing... Ain't it,"
@@CmdrTom Hua hah!
More like:"MORNINNNN'!"
Mornin, nice day for fission, aint it?
@@MattxAus1 nice one
I just cant decide whether I laugh my guts out or just stare in awe of this magnificent acting.
I was actually expecting that to go in a different direction. I was thinking the meteor was going to come down and end just being a small pebble that bounces harmlessly off their enemy.
I feel like this is directed towards skyrim when you charge a master spell but they're like two feet above you and you basically make a campfire
Meanwhile Baelin's off-camera with a Genji Glove and Master's Scroll, just biding his time.
oh, nice ff6 reference
Throw in Offering and he'll be invincible!
Aspect of Goth' Dor :
"Hey, stop it!"
"Don't make me kill you!"
That cross the line.
That cross the line.
@@estebanplourde681 Hey, stop it!
Hey, stop it!
You guys are the greatest! You really should be Winning emmy's and Oscars on your performances
In another mind, i really wished that Alandor called him "Peasant" during his lines.
Damn guys the acting and delivery of the dialogue along with the continuous improvement in the production quality....lots of love VLDL
Alan's voice here is very Matt Berry and I'm here for it
And who remembers the Ultima series of games, where there was actually a spell that would kill everything in the game world?
Is it good enough that I know of it?
Glory days!
Will O'Wisp: You have proven yourself worthy or being entrusted this most powerful spell that must never be cast!
Player: Save
Player: Cast Armagedon!
Even after a big project, they still upload the next day, absolute legends 💞
It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that Alandor was derived from... Alan.
Your Baelins Route movie was amazing! Its masterpiece
Once again we see that talking is a free action.
This dark lord could probably take 10 meteors to the face😂
Brings out Baelin’s Route, could have taken a break, yet comes out the next day with another quality gem. Not a Patreon person, but after all this I’m highly considering
It's super easy, I used to be sketched out by it too
@@executioner_ecgbert884 super easy, barely an inconvenience
I backed Baelin's route, but what pushed me into becoming a Patreon is their D&D series. Fucking gold!
They don't film day to day. "Baelin's Route" was filmed last autumn. Since then they did plenty of skit filming sessions. I recommend to follow their Instagram.
love how he just happens to have the forbidden, world ending spell, hanging casually from his belt
It is common spellscroll from the scribe of Honeywood, the "world ending part" helps the sales and you can easily find the "Side effects are not guaranteed" sign just in front of the shop. It was introduced within same patch as "All transactions are final" sign at blacksmith.
Hmmm... even though I just made that up, it fits the lore of the Epic NPC Man quite well, you are welcome VLDL :)
Completely normal behaviour for a DnD adventurer.
I always laughed when casting meteor in final fantasy. Like that shit should wreck but hey its just a game. Well done guys, love watching your stuff as a Kiwi loving in the UK. Been sharing all your stuff with the Poms!
Sephiroth's Supernova attack was the worst; took forever to animate. ^^
@@drix4275 Knights of the round......
@@adelucas4824 Supernova has a much longer animation than KoTR.
Aww, I was kind of hoping it was going to be one of those zone-changing events and it wouldn't just be that joke. Reminds me of summons in Golden Sun, summon Judgment and destroy the entire planet to deal 238 damage to a mushroom.
Meteor, Eclipse, and Iris also come to mind.
Yes, but they're still epic
Pokemon moves be like
I am SUPER happy to see Alan playing as more heroic characters lately! Also I need that EXACT costume for LARP! 😍😍
This is amazing acting not just in the voice category either
0:41 Alan's voice is so deep. It's weird hearing him in Bored then go to this.
When he took out a scroll, I'm kind of expecting Elder Scroll's kind of "take care of" the final boss.
