    _A few more games of note:_
    *Just Cause 3:* It's more of the same with lots of improvements, and that's great! But like the previous games, it's only something I pick up to play for a few minutes at a time until I've had my fill.
    *Super Mario Maker:* Incredibly easy to use editor that's fun to play with, and I love that it exists, but it didn't stand out very much to me otherwise.
    *Transformers: Devastation:* Now this is a great G1 Transformers game, no doubt. But I'm not hugely into spectacle fighters so I lost interest before long.
    *ARK: Survival Evolved:* This _absolutely_ would've been on my list, but it's still in early access. Next to Fallout 4, it's the game I spent the most time with this year!
    *Carmageddon: Reincarnation:* Lots of fun when it works well, but uh, it doesn't work very well. It has improved with patches but it's still not 100%.
    *Star Wars Battlefront:* Gorgeous game that plays rather well but is severely lacking depth. Shame.
    *Arkham Knight:* PC version was garbage.
    *Soma, Read Only Memories, Life Is Strange, Metal Gear Solid V, Pillars of Eternity:* Haven't played yet but plan to.

    This is why I've been a long time watcher. You always seem to have such a great background on why you chose what you consider as the best, and you give it alot of personality instead of making it feel so "We're writing it in the way we were told to do". I wish you a Happy New Year Clint!

    Glad Cities: Skylines made the list. The game was a major success on so many levels, from the big release to the developer's taking community feedback into consideration. It just also has a lot of a crossover appeal and is a game that people who aren't really "gamers" can find themselves spending a lot of time with.

    A good list overall Clint, for me as much as I'm currently savoring "Fallout 4", I found "Mad Max" to be the real surprise this year & was my GOTY easily. I have over 200 hours in it & still haven't completed it yet, I think it was the sleeper of 2015.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Dark Souls/Bloodborne gameplay really hard to wrap my head around. It saddens me, because as a huge monster geek and fan of sites like Bogleech I absolutely find myself drawn to the lore and setting, but I'm not nearly hardcore enough a gamer to ever make my way through it.

    Some cool unexpected stuff here!
    Yuakuza 5 was a nice surprise. I've recently been getting in to these games and actually just finished 4 yesterday. I'm really eager to get on to 5, but it's pretty expensive. £33 on the UK PSN store! But I'm really glad to see the series getting some recognition of late.
    Splatoon is really cool to see too. That's easily my favourite game of the year. It's just so fun and inventive.
    Forza 6 was a surprise as well. There's no better way to put it than it being what Forza 5 should have been. But while it's a great game, I think saying it's what 5 should have been is kind of damning with faint praise. It means 6 is basically on par with what was expected two years ago. While it's a big step up from what 5 was, 5 was such a big step down that I don't feel like 6 is really hugely impressive. 4 is still the pinnacle for me.

    • @Turniplord
      @Turniplord 9 лет назад +1

      Yakuza 5 is worth that. There is around 200 hours of content if you going for the plat - at least 60 hours of you rush through just the story and ignore most the side missions. I'm on it now, playing virtua fighter 2 in the sega arcade!

    • @PeterHas
      @PeterHas 9 лет назад +1

      +Scrustle I finished Yakuza 5 just yesterday, and it's my favorite now of the Yakuza games I've played (3, 4 and Dead Souls). It's easily one of my favorite games of 2015. I thought with the increased scope the game would suffer somehow compared to the other entries, but it didn't really. There's one bit in a forest village that's a bit slow and plodding. But that's about it. The rest, like 95% of the game, is very high quality. It's packed with lovable characters and tons of variation to keep things interesting all the way through. If you liked 4, then absolutely get 5 when you can.

    • @Turniplord

      ***** It took 3 years to just get Yakuza 5 in English (English subtitles) so I wouldn't hold my breath for another platform!

    • @frankschneider6156

      +Peter Hasselström
      You also ought to play 1 and 2. Yeah, they are graphically outdated, but as Yakuza is story driven, that really doesn't matter, as the stories itself (especially the first) are top notch. And they are not cut, unlike part part 3 that got terribly crippled, when Sega decided to remove 30% of the content to make it more accessible to gaijins.

    • @frankschneider6156
      @frankschneider6156 9 лет назад

      *****
      The problem were not the people buying Yakuza, the problem were the large number of people NOT buying Yakuza. "If it doesn't work, change it" is not that illogical. If crippling the product by withholding significant parts of the content (as with part 3) is a wise change is another thing. Maybe changing names from "Kyriu Kazuma" to "Ben Smith" and "Yakuza" to "Street Thugs" and substituting "yen" for "dollar" might be all that would have been needed, who knows ?

    Excited for that Yakuza 5 actually! Gotta go find it, though I really wish we could have gotten the Period-styled Yakuza games as well, "Ryuu ga Gotoku Kenzan!" and "Ryuu ga Gotoku Ishin!". Also, Dropsy reminds me A LOT of Natsume's "Chuu-lip" game on the PS2, where you are a Post-man on a kissing-quest to kiss nearly everyone (though, it's for the love of a girl!). Awesome list, already added a few suggestions, since they are relevant to my interests. Muwhaha.

    Great video LGR! Glad to see that you are a CD Projekt Red supporter! I agree, they are probably the best role model for every game dev out there. They care about the quality of their game and playerbase as if they were an indie developer, which is so rare to see with all of the rushed and unfinished games coming out now a days. If all devs were like CD Projekt Red, the gaming world would be a better place.

    • @frankschneider6156

      +SteamStax
      Although I like CDProject and am eagerly awaiting 2077, I feel this to be quite unfair towards Bioware. I have never ever seen a bad or rushed game by them,, although I am not too much of a Dragon Age fan. And I wouldn't say that CDProject RPGs are in principle better, than those by Bioware. At least for me personally, has Mass Effect still more appeal than Witcher (which is, without doubt, indeed also an excellent series).

    • @SteamStax
      @SteamStax 9 лет назад +1

      +Frank Schneider No rushed games from Bioware? What about Star Wars: The Old Republic? The game was barely playable from the start.

      I was originally referring to Bioware's classic RPGs. I really can't tell about The old republic, as I don't play MMORPGs. Actually I am still shocked, that they went as low as making a Sonic games, which practically on the same level as making sex games .. brrrrrr

      I'd guess, that most of the people who actually played the series, tend to really like it, and an overly high percentage of those adore it. Problem is that nobody in the west seems to want to play "so Japanese" games, although this makes them imho even cooler. It's probably one of the most underrated game series ever (but I also tend to think that "The Warriors" by Rockstar is an absolutely brilliant game that does really step up to the great movie it's based upon, but few seem to share this opinion).

      Yeah, if I look at this thread, it either means, that nearly everybody who has ever played Yakzua also posted on this thread and has subscribed to LGR, or that it suddenly became somewhat cool to like Yakuza (which would be pretty beneficial for the series). At least we'll get Yakuza 0 in 2017, and hopefully Yakuza 6 not too long thereafter.

    My personal favorite games that I've played the most of this year are "The Forest" and "Sir You Are Being Hunted". Of all the games that I've bought this year, those two are the ones that REALLY stand out. And as always, for the Fith year in a row, Minecraft is the top game (I doubt I'm ever going to get bored of it considering I've always found new things to do with it since I started playing it in early beta.) but that game doesn't really count for this because I bought that game long ago. Those three games were my triad this year.

    Cities: Skylines was a nice reminder that while I love urban planning games... I am not very good at them.

    Btw have you ever played LISA - The painful RPG? (and if so, have you also played the DLC?)

    This is a pretty impressive list seeing Yakuza, Undertale, Witcher and Dropsy. I still need to grab Dropsy and a few others but props to a well diversified that just isn't big blockbuster game 2015. Also thanks for selling me on Until Dawn, that game sounds great.

    You should give DiRT Rally a try. Works great with a gamepad.

    If you want a good Metroidvania, try Axiom Verge. It is very much a Metroid clone, but very interesting.

    Fallout 4 and Forza 6 are my favorite two on this list, but I spent the most time with MGS V. So much fun, that game is.

    Nice list! By the way, what do you prefer. Simcity 4 or Cities Skylines?

    • @LGR

      Why not both? I prefer either/or for entirely different reasons!

      +Lazy Game Reviews Okay. I'm sort of the same way, I like simcity 4 for its insanely massive cities/regions, realism and style. But in CS I love the modding community, the pretty 3D graphics, no always online DRM bullshit, difficulty, districts and more.

    What did you think of the Night Dive release of Turok? For me it's tied for GOTY with Undertale. I count it as a 2015 game since the game was remade in the PowerSlave EX engine.

    Of these games the only one I really played was Cities Skylines (fan of city builders going back to SimCity when it came out back in 1989). Fallout 4 looks too much like Fallout 3 and New Vegas (which I own and haven't finished all the way yet) to warrant a purchase. Witches 3 looks a lot like Skyrim and Oblivion (same comments as Fallout 4).
    Games which I really liked this year are the updates to Europa Universals IV and Crusader Kings II...best strategy games on the market I think.
    Happy new year!!

    Dropsy looks awesome and the concept is great but it didn't grab me (pun intended). I think you need good dialogue in an adventure game to make the characters work, as it's all about characters really. Still, nice to see an example of old school adventure game on your list.

    • @LGR
      @LGR  9 лет назад

      I think Dropsy worked so well precisely _because_ it didn't have any dialogue whatsoever. It's all told through pantomime and your own actions, and that transcends any language barrier. It's just pure emotion.

      @NihilQuest 9 лет назад

      +Lazy Game Reviews It felt rather empty to me after a while and I gave up on the game. The character of Dropsy was interesting enough and his first dream was simply stunning, but the rest of the world - not really.

    I'm amazed that your's is the first list I've seen Cities: Skylines. It's a bit of a travesty for such a phenomenal game.

      If it's not availabe on PSN for you, you can either try changing account and region, or alternatively import the DVD from Japan, which cost me only half the price they are asking for on PSN, as the PS 3 is region free (regarding games).
      You'll of course not get any english subtitles this way in case you need them.

    I never thought it'd be LGR to make me think about actually grabbing a console for the exclusives in 2016. Maybe each console has enough of an exclusive library to be worth it.
