Alright. While I'm here maybe you guys can help me (I've tried google). So yesterday I bought and played BOI:R for about 3 hours. When I came back to it after Christmas dinner (*drools*) avast kept quarantining an .exe file, and I've tried adding it to exceptions and re installing/validating but it keeps doing it. Any ideas how I can fix this? - Sorry for
      asking here of all places.

    • @RetroRampage
      @RetroRampage 10 лет назад

***** I saw on the Isaac redit that some other people had this issue too.
Here's a quote from Ikanacanyon about how to fix the issue.
"Here's an easy fix I just found:
Open up the antivirus and go to the vault, and there you should see al the files that your antivirus has on quarentine.
Look for the Isaac-ng.exe file (I think thats the file the antivirus is taking).
Right click it and make the Antivirus analize the file. It should then say there was no virus detected.
After that right click the file again, click on the option that says to restore the file and make it an exeption and voilá! You can play again!"
If it doesn't work, post a reply here:
      www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/2qdxbb/a_new_boss_has_appeared_in_the_chest/
      Maybe they can help you.

I just bought the Sims 4 today because it was half off and it feels like such a step backwards compared to the Sims 3
Obviously I need to give it a little more time but I don't think it will be something I'll spend whole nights playing like the previous three.1
2012 and 2013 were pretty good years for gaming and I'm hoping something awesome comes out of 2015!

    • @MrJoeyWheeler
      @MrJoeyWheeler 10 лет назад +12

I'm glad someone else agrees with me on this. Seriously, people keep saying "Duh Sims 3's open world was crap"
It was only crap because of poor optimisation and there being too many rabbitholes which could easily have been resolved. Removing the open world is a step backward, and I have zero intentions of buying what basically amounts to The Sims 2 with better graphics. Especially when I could just reinstall The Sims 2 and its expansion packs and have the excuse of it being an older game for me to have loading times.

    • @Kellmachine
      @Kellmachine 10 лет назад +4

Damian Freeman luckily the loading times haven't been a big deal for me (yet...) but maybe that's because I'm using the laptop I got for Christmas? The world feels so small and awkward. At least in the Sims 2 you could see your whole neighborhood at once and customize it but the Sims 4 somehow takes away the feeling that you are in control of the world. This game really reminds me of the Sims Bustin' Out on the original xbox

    • @MrJoeyWheeler
      @MrJoeyWheeler 10 лет назад +6

Kellmachine I had Bustin' Out on the PS2. It doesn't work any more but honestly I never enjoyed it or any Sims console game. They always felt unpolished to me and you had so little control.
I'm sticking with 3. Granted, I'm not even playing that very often but it has its uses.
Oh, and I will not change my stance that sliders with presets are better than click-and-drag customisation. Also TS4's lack of Create-a-Style pisses me off as well. I like making character sims and no CaST means no characters.

I had a lot of fun playing Daedalus - No Escape this year. It's a beautiful, fast top-down arena shooter inspired by Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament and Alien Breed. AFAIK it's developed by one guy who keeps improving his game.
The game is awesome but sadly only a few people seem to know it exists, fortunately it's very easy to host public and private games and there are bots and they are no pushovers :)
Daedalus comes with a user friendly level editor and there are already a lot of good custom maps.
It's currently on sale for a few dollars on Steam.
Other (new) games I enjoyed in 2014:
    Wasteland 2
    Tesla Effect
    Xenonauts
    Alien Isolation
Heroine's Quest (you can get this adventure RPG in the style of Quest for Glory for free on Steam!)
Keep up the good work and best wishes!

I can't help but feel like you might get a kick out of _Freedom Planet_, LGR. It's a (presently) PC-exclusive throwback to old Genesis/Saturn games, much like _Shovel Knight_ was a throwback to NES titles. Somewhere between a _Sonic_ game (the hill physics, mostly), a _Rocket Knight_ game (one character can boost off like ol' Sparkster), a _Mega Man X_ game (one character can wall-climb like X does, and most attacks feel similar to using the Z-Saber) and various Konami/Treasure action games (the bosses are smoothly-animated multi-sprited behemoths that don't pull any punches). Kind of reminds me of _Jazz Jackrabbit_, in a sense. It's got a rather hokey plot, but also offers a mode that completely skips over it (and really, all you need to know is "aliens invade, go kick their ass" anyway). Half-off on Steam right now, too.
Also was a big fan of _Contraption Maker_ this year. It's basically more _The Incredible Machine_ from the folks that made _TIM_ to begin with, just with the serial numbers filed off. Could use a few more sound effects, personally, but it's still a very solid follow-up. I had no idea how much I missed having new and fresh Rube Goldberg puzzles to solve 'til this came rolling around.

The only arguably new game I really played this year was the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, but boy is that game good. I've put in over 125 hours now. Nearly 100%ed the game. Unfortunately I can't quite wrap my head around The Lost. Ugh.

    • @plemgrubern
      @plemgrubern 10 лет назад

the original binding of isaac was one of my all time favorites, and rebirth is better in almost every way, so you bet it's on my game of the year list

Rebirth is pretty awesome. Rebirth and The Talos Principle were definitely my favorites for 2014.

  • @RetroAmateur1989
    @RetroAmateur1989 10 лет назад +1

I like the usage of your original opening theme
    on the games now
-Elite dangerous: dissapointed that it doesn't work offline, but Ithink I think I'm gonna get it some time in the future.
-wolfenstein: surprisingly good story and voice acting
-Watch_dogs: Uplay, broken on release(and as far as I know, it still is), plus they nerfed the graphics so as to make the consoles not look obsolete. Faithfull representasion of chicago is not enough for someone who never lived there.
-Shovel knight: I need to try this soon
-Divinity original sin: Epic fantasy RPGs are not really my thing, but this has to be a the biggest surpise of the year.
-Murdered soul suspect: would have been good if they had focused on the rest of the adventuring part and not on the stealth aspect.
-Octodad dadliest catch: strangelly adorable, sweet and touching game
-The sims 4: feels like they were initially aiming for something similar to simcity 2013, but after the debacle had to change it. Still its not as challenging as sims 2 and it feels even more like a base for DLC than sims 3.
-Diablo III: As I said, not up my cup of tea, but I despise it for what it was on release. When blizzard milked the auction house dry they removed it in an pretentious act of "we heard the feed back". The game is still always online which to my surprise doesn't bother anyone.
-Wasteland 2: like original sin its a major surprise
-The vanishing of Ethan Carter: I bought dear esther and I can say the lack of interactivity frustrated me greatly, but the island and the graphics were some of the best I've seen. Oh yeah the best utilisation of the source engine. This looks just as stunning if not more and if I get an actuall interactive experience the Im gonna get this.
-Forza Horizon 2: So far, the only game I would buy an Xbone for. I recently acquired TDU2 and I can say that despite its flaws its a really fun and beautiful game. I would love a more polished experience of that. MS release it or at least forza 1 for PC PWETTY PWEAAAAASE!
-Alien isolation: not really care about this one, but its good that its not a debacle.
-Middle earth shadow of mordor: Don't care about this one too, but its good its assassin's creed elements didn't took over.
-Monument valley: never heard of this before.

This is my top 10 of the year list. These are the only games I *started and finished* this year and this is the first time I played them, so disregard any and all original release dates.
    10: GTA V (re-release)
    9: Black Ops II Multiplayer
8: Tomb Raider: Legend (a guilty pleasure of mine)
    7: Max Payne 3
    6: Portal 1
    5: Wolfenstein: The New Order
    4: Driver: San Francisco
    3: Spec Ops: The Line
    2: The Wolf Among Us
1: (BioShock Infinite) Burial at Sea: Episode 2
    _____
I'm fully aware that Burial at Sea is technically DLC, but I consider Episode 2 to be as much a sequel as it is an addition. Six hours of pure, unadulterated beauty and joy and THAT ENDING! It feels different than the main game, it plays differently, and I loved every second of it.
Second, I'm sort of jumping the gun on The Wolf Among Us, seeing as I haven't finished the last episode yet, but I plan on doing so later today. Even if the ending isn't as good as it's building up to be, I still think it's going to stay where it is on my list.
Anyway, hope I didn't annoy anyone here. I'm fully aware of my odd taste in games, but we all have some oddities we enjoy, so no harm done, right?

South Park: The Stick of Truth
This right here is one of my favourite games to have come out this year, and a great 'cartoon to video game' adaptation in general.
    And Freedom Planet!
My god what a great game in general. First inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog series, this indie kickstarter title developed its own identity complete with high paced 2D action-platforming and an outstanding soundtrack to boot!

The talos principle came out this year and got it,
that game is just amazing, the level design is very clever and a complete eye candy (also has a different theme to every chamber you visit), the puzzles are pretty engaging but get harder the farther you go, you have the freedom to do any puzzle you wish and no world is closed of one you completed the chamber, I don't feel like giving too much away. Its just amazing much amazing things they have added into this game, there is still the public beta that is still available to play if anyone wants to try it. Can't wait for ss4 though in next year.

  • @tomato3456

If you have a DS, I'd recommend you play Ghost Trick if you haven't already. It's a very similar premise to Murdered: Soul Suspect where you play as a ghost who's trying to solve his own murder, though the gameplay is entirely different. You travel to locations where people have died recently and use your ghostly powers to go back in time to four minutes prior to their death, whereupon you have to manipulate the scene of the crime Rube-Goldberg style to prevent the death from ever happening in the first place.
The game is absolutely charming and actually has a really gripping story. It's one of my most favourite games of all time, and is an absolute must-have for any DS owner.

You and I have very different tastes in games (I've always been more of a console gamer, though, so that should be little surprise), but I do have three PC gaming recommendations for you that I think you should at least try out if and when you're able:
    - Freedom Planet
My pick for game of the year 2014, yet nobody seems to really be talking about it. Basically, it does for Sonic the Hedgehog, Rocket Knight and Mega Man X what Shovel Knight did for Mega Man and Duck Tales. As much as I *adore* Shovel Knight (and I really do!), I honestly think Freedom Planet manages to be an even better game, and I would easily rank it above even the classic Sonic games of the 16-bit era -- it's immensely satisfying, surprisingly long, extremely varied, and has a great difficulty curve, as well as an optional story mode (you can choose to play just the stages with no story at all, if you want) that some have said is too long and has terrible voice-acting, but which I absolutely loved -- it reminds me of the old Saturday morning Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series, and it really feels like you should be in your PJs and eating a bowl of cereal when you're watching them. This game also has an absolutely OUTSTANDING soundtrack that I continue to listen to on a regular basis.
    - Strider
The 2014 reboot of Strider is basically everything that was great about the original Strider arcade game + everything that was great about Strider 2 + everything that was great about the Strider NES game + Super Metroid. And... I mean, how can you go wrong with all of that? The biggest downsides to this game are that it IS rather easy, and there's not nearly enough music (though what's there is very good)... but otherwise, it's just fantastic. Easily some of the most fun I've had with a 2D platformer in years, with tight controls and a really amazing variety of moves, and the Metroidvania aspects are just brilliantly realized. I also love that the game doesn't hold your hand -- there's almost no story and virtually nothing in the way of tutorials, with the game just throwing you right into the action and leaving you to fend for yourself. It's just a wonderful successor to the classic Strider franchise, and a great game in general that I'd highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Strider, Metroidvanias, or just badass cyber ninja action.
    - Crypt of the NecroDancer
A Steam Early Access game that's basically just your average roguelike... except everything is controlled solely with the arrow keys (so you can plug in a USB dance pad if you have one) since rhythm plays a huuuuuge role in the proceedings. It may be unfinished, but I still managed to sink a good 10 hours into it before I even knew it, and I enjoyed every minute of them -- it's really the perfect blending of rhythm and roguelike, with a great personality, great music, a surprisingly high challenge level and gameplay that's simple yet tough to master. It's also the most "PC"-feeling of the three games I've listed here, and though I like Freedom Planet and Strider a little better, I still think Crypt of the NecroDancer is a wonderful title and a worthy entry on anyone's list of top 2014 games.

There weren't 10 games I actually adored this year LOL.
    9. _Hearthstone_ (Shallow, but too enjoyable not to... well... enjoy.)
    8. _Lethal League_ (All the mindgames of a fighting game without a cliff face for a learning curve.)
    7. _Crimzon Clover_ (Probably my favorite spaceship shooter ever. It's the best kind of sensory overload.)
    6. _Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball_ (This one's obscure, but it's the most online multiplayer fun imaginable. Seriously, it's only five bucks. It doesn't look like much, but give it a shot. It's like a better _Tribes_ on a budget.)
    5. _Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze_ (_Shovel Knight_ doesn't even hold a candle to this one.)
    4. _Mario Kart 8_ (Are you surprised this is the year's best racing game? Hell, I'd give it more than that. This is the best _Mario Kart_ ever, and I have the ragingest _Double Dash_ hard-on.)
    3. _Super Smash Bros. for Wii U_ (It's _Smash_, and it's a vast improvement on every other game in the series. Incredible.)
    2. _Lovely Planet_ (The best indie game of the year. It's so brilliantly designed and so charming. It's like _Katamari DOOM-acy_ with _Meat Boy_ structure. Please spend your money on this.)
    1. _Bayonetta 2_ (It's the best game of all time, this time in blue.

    1. Mario Kart 8
    2. Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed
    3. Super Smash Bros for Wii U
    4. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Final Mix

I think you should do a compilation of the Aliens games; like the Pac-Man clones vid or your Atari RealSports one. That aside, you did speak of Alien: Isolation in this (which was the type Alien game I was waiting for). There is also the classic 1999 Aliens vs Predator shooter, and the newer AvP (which was decent), among many others. You mentioned in your Pac-Man clones video you hadn't seen Alien, which maybe that has changed. If not, I suggest you watch the movies to get into the mood, and play some of the games and make a review! The Aliens series is such a classic staple of Sci-fi/horror (some may disagree). Or even an Alien/Terminator/Predator review!

Shadow of Mordor was a real sleeper hit for me. I hated even the idea of the game when I initially heard of it, what with the whole wraith magic thingamabob story, but it won me over by virtue of how much the nemesis system added to the game. It better get a sequel.

Hey.. the wasteland could use a one-liner spamming, and mini gun-toting redhead :D
Otherwise.. if that pic had a date with the photoshop smudge tool it probably could be featured in a Road Rash '96 remake haha!

Dragon Age Inquisition- has been a good time, it's a slow burn then it sort of just sticks to a low heat but it's pretty has some fun combat and immersive world.
Freedom Planet- While Shovel Knight is inspired by Megaman and Duck Tales, FP is inspired by Rocket Knight, Sonic, bit of Megaman. Really fun platformer with a lot of charm and a awesome soundtrack...skippable story mode though.
Alien Isolation- Like LGR was expecting crap but it was amazing from beginning to end. The Alien always felt like a threat no matter what, not to mention the other things you come across. I managed to blow through it without killing any people which was a first for me.
Tie Fighter ....What? GoG re-released it. ....It's incredible so shaddap! Amazing flight controls, simple yet deep star fighter systems management, immersive story and fun plot. Challenging but typically fair combat.
Dead Rising 3- was expecting a ruined series, looking like they went more gritty and serious vs the typical b movie fun stuff but they managed to make a really fun game out of it. I haven't tried the included expansions yet but the game has been good fun! Really liked it.
StarPoint Gemini 2- Okay, there's some bias here as I loved, loved Starflight on the Genesis, go out and make your money your way, make decisions etc. This has the heart of that but just with what modern hardware can do. Explore, mine, hunt bounties, trade, smuggle. All this while you upgrade your ship to how you like and it's been a nice fun game with a lot of open world that actually feels like it.
Gonna list Tales of Xillia on PS3 since I only found it this year, likely came out in 2013 but it was a nice fun game, I'm new to that whole series and it's nice to see a strong female lead in a game that's not in a supporting role.

I consider _Dragon Age: Inquisition_ to be the most interesting game of 2014. Not the best or the worst, but the most interesting. I almost consider _Inquisition_ to be the video game manifestation of "anti-gamergate," and that on its own is almost enough to make me consider it GOTY material, even with all the technical problems it has.

    Proud to be a Watch_Dogs fan! The people say it's disappointing because;
    1. They played it on consoles
    2. They have no idea that they can hack the graphics by changing a few bits on the gamerprofile.xml
    3. They don't know TheWorse. TheWorseMod basically made me a fan of this game because the Graphics are beautiful and I mean look at the coat.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is probably the best game in the Shantae series (games that the Shovel Knight developers worked on before they broke off to do their own thing) and is now out for Wii U and has been out for 3DS for a while. If you like your platformers a bit more metroid-y and filled with cheesecake, this is a truly great one!
I also think as far as Indie Platformers go, Freedom Planet is worth mentioning, especially if you're a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog Circa 1994 - 1999, or in your case, Jazz the Jackrabbit! It's a game with a fairly safe level design, but it's very focused and knows just what it truly wants to be.
Guilty Gear Xrd just snuck in at the end of the year and the graphical style in that game STILL astonishes me every time I see it. Everything you'd want in a Guilty Gear game is there too. if you like fighters, you owe it a try for having such a rich style.

Hey LGR, since you mentioned mobile gaming in the form of Monument Valley, I was hoping you would do a video about King of Dragon Pass? It's in the practically unique genre of lifesim (tribesim, really) and strategy combination. It's an updated version of a PC game from 1999. It's also based on one of my favorite tabletop gaming worlds, Glorantha.

I wouldn't necessarily say 2014 was a bad year for gaming, but it was certainly a bad year for AAA games and the gaming community generally. Most AAA games this year were a letdown, and Ubisoft seem to have taken EA's crown as the "most obnoxious developer/publisher".

Far cry 4 is my favorite of the year, though this year hasn't been the best for games. The Sims 4 ain't to bad, i really appreciated it even if it was worse than the third one(third one wasn't bad) . The thing i like most with Sims 4 is that you can play it with no problem at all on a low-spec computer from 2012.

You should really play Sunset Overdrive. :D
I've heard lots of people bagging it for it's cartoony graphics and such, but between the snarky sarcastic main character, awesome weapons like the flaming compensator and the dude, needless explosions, bad puns, and excellent comedic tastes (it had me laughing out loud quite a few times), it's the most fun fps game I've ever played. The only problem I have with fps games is the fact that they're all so similar and somewhat greyscale, but this game is something new and is like a breath of fresh air.
...And the fact that you can make a main character the size of the hulk with neon hair and panties is hilarious to me. xD

The one game I have played more than any was 7 days to die.Out of all the early access steam games this is the most complete and satisfying. With the devs releasing serious content updates the games potential is over the top.
People ask me what its about....the only way I can describe it is Minecraft meets Left for Dead.Or as I like to call it the Crafting Dead its seriously a great game that few people know about....
Its funny because most of the games I have enjoyed most this last year have been Indy games. They are showing more depth and innovation than AAA titles have been.

Great picks, I especially loved "Wolfenstein The New Order", which was easily my GOTY. I've yet to play "Wastelands 2", I was enthralled with it back in the 80s on my C-64. I boycotted the XB1 port of "Forza Horizon 2" due to "forced" Drivatars but simply loved my experience with it on my 360 although I still prefer the original & it's more enthusiastic graphic presentation & fonts.

    WWE 2K15
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (My favorite Call of Duty since call of duty 4.)

If you like story driven titles, check out D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die on Xbox One. It's done by the same team who made Deadly Premonition and it shows in it's absurdity and charm, being about a detective who travels back in time to solve his wife's death. It's kind of like a Telltale Game but turned up to 11.
Soundtrack is great too, if you like easy listening, piano, and an Irish Rock song into one game.
