DSP has been INFAMOUS for ignoring tutorials. If it's a text box he skips through it, if it's an NPC talking DSP will repeat "blah, blah, blah," not listening to the instructions, and if it's a level that he can run through he only focuses on checking if he's got donations. Then when DSP needs to start actually using the game mechanics, he flips out calling the game/devs shit because they didn't "explain" how the mechanics works.

Think what you will of Josh Strife Hayes, but I think what he once said is pretty much spot on with this, that you only get out of a game what you put into it. If you’re running around like a dope, not paying attention, talking to NPCs, etc. then you’re going to find the game boring

To be fair I do the same. I skip the long ass text, then get confused and annoyed I have to figure it out myself. They could make it more intuitive and fast to figure out. Mobile games. Mobile games do this pretty well. They give you an arrow "Click here to select this attack, now click here to use the attack there. Now you have a bunch more options... you'll figure it out. There's stat boxes if you wish to compare, but you could just try stuff out.". Once you have a grasp on baldurs gate, it's fine. However it did take me around an hour to get what everything was.

@@shimmyking4 Hahaha only speaking the truth man. Tutorials are hard to do right. Just look at runescape, they've tried various different tutorials, and they're gone back to the default one a bunch of times. There's a balance between time learning stuff and getting to play the game. There can't be an information dump like in pokemon games, where you have to sit through an hour of text explaining what a pokeball is.

I am an EXTREMELY casual gamer, to the point where I have been playing dnd regularly for 10+ years and still am running my first playthrough of bg3 on Explorer bc I don't want to deal with the stress. And this dude somehow gives me confidence. Even I know how an aoe effect works, and how to look at my menu of options and determine what is there. They don't even rush you - it's turn based. You can spend hours reading through all of your companion's abilities on a single turn to decide how you want to use them.
I can't believe he thinks this game is comparable to Souls. No offense to it, but I'm terrified to even attempt those games. Bg3 is a casual's dream, you can avoid so many combats just by sneaking past or getting lucky on rolls. (Or by playing a bard, but that one at least requires knowing your classes). Wild!

The beauty of BG3 is getting lost in the world, exploring and experiencing everything for yourself. Sometimes you have to explore and look around and trail around to figure out how things work. But it's part of the adventure. You may have one battle that goes to complete shit and you come back half dead, your party is crippled down but you learned something for the next battle. The game is all about growing and learning as your adventure continues on, every fight you might learn a new mechanic or something simple. Just thinking "Let me try this" Thinking outside of the box is a real strong point of this game. But DSP refuses to do that, but the funniest thing about that is BG3 even works wit that playstyle of just hitting everything, fighting your way unga bunga style. Somehow he STILL fails that.

One thing I’ve noticed with Phil is he always front loads his positive points before launching into his negative tirades like that covers his bases. Typically you’d want to do it the other way around otherwise people are only going to remember the negatives.
And his description of the gameplay is absurd. He makes it sound awful but everyone I know who played it said it’s great. DSP just wants a combat system he can mash attack and heal every so often to advance without thinking even slightly.
Also I’m laughing picturing DSP trying a DnD campaign. He’d take a week to make a character and would be confused constantly and just wouldn’t be creative which is the fun of a tabletop style game. He just wants to hit enemy and get loot. Nothing else. Studying the environment and coming up with creative strategies is part of the fun. Only Phil treats that aspect as a negative and will try to convince his dents why this is bad. Phil yet again proves he doesn’t understand good game design.
Also it bothers me DSPs definition of interactive streamer is having a chat act as his strategy guide. That’s not interaction when it is one sided and his tips come attached to literal tips.

I wanna preface this saying that BG3 is my first dip into crpgs and turn based combat. I’m as inexperienced as one could get, more than this DSP guy. That said, I didn’t find it to be incredibly hard. It was confusing at first, and it’s easy to be overwhelmed with seeing the rows of spells and mechanics. BUT, the point of the game is for you to explore, learn and adapt. I can recall my fight at the grove and how terrible it was, so much so I didn’t want to fight at all. But just yesterday, I dashed in and obliterated the hell out to Gortash and his entire crew in one day.
I had no prior knowledge, and often had to learn stuff on the fly. Act 1 gave me the chance to learn the mechanics, try out spells and prepare for the later battles. Sometimes I messed up so bad i had to reload, but instead of getting mad over my mistakes, I learned and got better.
DSP lacks the patience and ability to simply *try*. He’s jumping into the game without any proper foresight or awareness of his surroundings. I mean his gameplay when running towards Gale is telling enough of how little he cares. He expects the game to just lay it flat that there’s a noxious cloud when the game shows that VISUALLY, and possibly in the dialogue as well (which he skips over). I hope he learns to enjoy the game, or leave with a more positive understanding but given his attitude it’s likely he’s just there for the cash flow and not for his own enjoyment. Which is sad. BG3 has become my comfort game and it’s definitely something everyone should try just once, even if it’s not your style. The world building, plot, and interactions are so interwoven and complex. But he skips over it like it’s nothing. A game is only good as the amount of effort you put into it, so if you’re treating it like crap, you’re bound to feel the exact same.

30:18 - I have *never* seen someone - online or IRL - *that* bored and mentally checked out from a game. He's barely touched it and he's already detached. And the worst is that I know why that's the case: it's deliberate, intended hate. Both towards the game and towards his fans. It's too difficult for him to enjoy the game, because that'd be an outright admittance that he was wrong and his audience was right. And if he has to suffer, his audience has to suffer too.
    - BG3 makes you think, and Phil hates thinking, because it gives away how unimaginative and unattentive he is. TOTK says hi.
    - It's an unpleasant submission to his fanbase of whom he already hates. They basically had to push him into playing it, and the numbers on his stream reflect that his audience are better at judging decisions when compared to Mr. Business de Gree.
    - Most of all, BG3 is a good game! It's received near unanimous praise, and annihilates Phil's smug yet uneducated prediction that it'd be a mid-tier game that'd be long forgotten by now.
To put it in a context Phil would understand: BG3 anally evacuated over his ego.
(Also, it tells him to open the journal. I've not played BG3, but I'd bet the journal entry might contain a clue about the deadly gas. It's also called "Necrotic Aura", and his party member died getting near it - how many more context clues does he need?!) 🤦🏻

You noticed how when Shadowheart died at around 30:50 the game said that Gale had a "Necrotic Aura" effect with a skull icon. If he actually noticed that in time, I bet he would have been trying to figure out how to safely use the Scroll of Revivify on Gale. Maybe, he would even attempt to enter the turn based mode after noticing the pop ups about it, and realizing that he's not in it, due to him being able to move the characters normally. If he paid more attention he would have been able to survive the encounter.

@V2ULTRAKill yes, but not to the degree of let's say bloodborne with Ludwig holy blade. All souls games including sekiro have some outs, just sekiro has less

Phil's biggest issue is how he always compares to other games, he never lets games stand on it's own

I think the real issue is that he thinks his opinion on ANY game has any weight at all.

His biggest problem is his negativity towards everything... he is always comparing and never embracing it for what it is as a standalone game

Guys, I think I know why Phil absolutely hates games that make you learn from your mistakes. That's because he absolutely HATES making mistakes and admitting he was wrong about something, his narcissistic ego is too fragile for that. He wants to play the game where he always wins, preferably by doing an absolute minimum effort.
I guess Phil should start playing visual novels, it would fit him perfectly.

    Is this man fucking serious
The attention to detail on mechanics like this is why BG3 is so great. I remember grinning from ear to ear during my first playthrough when I realized you could throw the goblins at each other with a barb, or make a puddle of water and freeze it to make enemies eat shit.
What kind of combat does phil even want, Elmo's Letter Adventure?????
With stuff like dark souls its easy to just say mad bcuz bad lul but malding this hard over BG3 makes me think he legitimately hates video games, why even play them if youre this opposed to engaging with them

DSP gets butthurt when people won’t throw him tons of cash for Mario games, yet can’t be appreciative of people tuning in and donating for a game that he doesn’t like. “You guys HAVE to like the games I want to play!!!1!” 🥺😭

I loved the bandit fight! I actually learned a lot of how mechanics from watching the enemies fight. I learned of throwing potions at my party members to heal them, and the oil/fire. “It was greyed out, IDK WHY” ….it LITERALLY tells you ON THE THROW COMMAND that it requires an action to use. This game requires you to be able to READ

Before I played BG3, I had never played a turn-based game, never played a BG game, and didn't really have any idea about D&D. I have 1000 hours in BG3 now, and I don't think I'll be slowing down anytime soon lol. His excuses are empty. Why is taking the time to learn something outside of your comfort zone ever a negative thing?
