You can find more information about this tool-assisted speedrun here: tasvideos.org/2... My comments on the run can be found here: tasvideos.org/3... Thanks Aktan for the amazing encode.
Boss manipulation in Rush 1 is a huge stumbling block. VanillaCoke stalled on the first boss for over a year in his wip back in the day when he was still working on it.
I forgot how GOOD the music was produced for this! You can tell it's in-game synth, but the samples are so spot-on that in a lot of cases(Especially for Sweet Mountain), it's hard to tell the difference.
Man... I grew up with this game alongside Mario Galaxy 2. I think this was the first game I completed 100%. I remember finding out that I didn't have all the chaos emeralds, so I got them all. And when I did..... OH MY GOD. A whole new boss and a game mechanic were hiding under my nose the entire time in a game I thought I knew inside out!! It feels so good to find an awesome secret like that where your mind is blown and gives you a whole new perspective to look at a game from.
"Hey, Sonic! It turns out these white wisps will give you a helpful boost in speed! Try using them on your adventure!" TAS Sonic: *"I AM ABOUT TO BREAK ALL PREVIOUSLY CONCEPTUALIZED LAWS OF MOMENTUM."*
Imagine being so fast the game's music can't even keep up. For real, this is amazing. A couple days ago I saw a TAS of Sonic Rush where they utilized the same technique where sonic faces left despite moving towards the right because his speed isn't capped for negative values. It's weird that even still now they didn't cap it even after making another 'Rush' style game.
I thought that the jump at 2:20 was pretty sick. I'm sure It can be done with some practice. Also when Sonic reached the zipline and zoomed through there rest of Tropical Resort Act 2, I'm pretty sure that was the fastest I've ever seen Sonic move in any videogame!!!!
The first time it happens is on TR2, which is the result of a glitch with the zipline. It's done by boosting the opposite way of travel and then jumping the next frame. On SC2, it's just simply taking advantage of the way the engine and rails work in a TAS environment :P
sorry for the late reply but it's a "TAS", a method in which you slow down the game a lot and re-record each movement until it's perfect. It takes a really long time to do as well, but this isn't a single segment run.
I came here because I've never actually seen gameplay of sonic colours for the ds and the second I saw it was just like sonic rush but with even more mechanics I got a nostalgia overload bc sonic rush was my entire fucking childhood
Imagine being Eggman, spending months and years building an entire park with a powerful organic fuel source, and then a blue spiked rat destroys it in 33 minutes while literally running backwards
Where's the real ending where you get all gems. Or is just end the game? But the ending song is playing and tails is down there at the ending cinematic, or is just the normal ending? Oh boy, TAS are so confusing sometimes.
I used to the play the heck out of this game when I was younger. Probably the video game that I am most familiar with. Still far from obtaining your level of skill though. Couldn't help but be psyched with you skipped the flipping whale sequence in SC Act 2. Well done. Thanks for a good watch

This was built on the same engine as Sonic Rush, believe it or not. There's no TCRF page for it, but I'd imagine there are leftovers from Rush present in the ROM and a few recycled assets between the two. Also, don'tcha just love how Vanilla starts with 2 lives and ends with 86?
honestly, i played through act 1 and thought that the boost mechanic (which is dumb) is gone. nope, its just not in the first act and now is required instead of an extra boost. great
@@sonicdudeatdawn2 its not optional, there are some paths that require you to boost, and even the final boss requires you to boost WE SHOULDN'T BE REQUIRED TO DO THIS STUFF

Watching this makes me wonder: why aren't there any TASes of Sonic Rush?
Trilkin I think Sonic Rush games are too stable and linear for anything as spectacular as what you may get out of, say, the Genesis trilogy.
