Been working on this for about a week, not sure if I'm going to continue it or not. While the Ralph sections are fun to work on, the Felix Jr. sections are tedious and a pain to optimize. Frames - 3804 Rerecords - 9618

Reason I always love TAS and glitchy speedruns in Sonic is because the games are still natural looking mostly🤣 But that also kind of explains the unique feeling of playing a good Sonic game

Why does Asteroid Coaster's music glitch out?
This was built on the same engine as Sonic Rush, believe it or not. There's no TCRF page for it, but I'd imagine there are leftovers from Rush present in the ROM and a few recycled assets between the two. Also, don'tcha just love how Vanilla starts with 2 lives and ends with 86?
I thought that the jump at 2:20 was pretty sick. I'm sure It can be done with some practice. Also when Sonic reached the zipline and zoomed through there rest of Tropical Resort Act 2, I'm pretty sure that was the fastest I've ever seen Sonic move in any videogame!!!!

Imagine being so fast the game's music can't even keep up. For real, this is amazing. A couple days ago I saw a TAS of Sonic Rush where they utilized the same technique where sonic faces left despite moving towards the right because his speed isn't capped for negative values. It's weird that even still now they didn't cap it even after making another 'Rush' style game.
This was so awesome! Don't know if I'm too late (7 years late, I know), but why do you do so many jumps on the loops, is it to cut corners since going in a more ridged shape is faster that traveling the circumference of the loop? And towards the end, It seemed like you faced the other way for a spilt second, then boosted forward? What's up with that?
So yeah, for one it's faster taking those angles by jumping instead of running along the entire loop. But also I used those jumps to gain more speed too. I know the "gain more speed" thing is vague, but it's kind of complex and it's been a long time too so my explanation wouldn't be very good LOL. The backwards thing is because speed gets capped when you hold forward, but not when you're holding backwards (or rolling)

@@ShiroParadox99 Been awhile since I did them (eight years or so), but I believe it's something like: Frame 1: Boost (Y) forward Frame 2: Hold Y and forward, Press Jump Frame 3: Hold Y and forward, Press R to air dash Frame 4: Release Y and hold backwards Frame 5 and on until landing: Hold backwards. Once you touch the ground with your extra speed and velocity, you could turn into a ball and it'll prevent it from decaying for a lot longer than just holding backwards on the ground. So it'd look something like this Frame 1 landing: Hold back + down Frame 2: Hold forward and continue rolling Velocity degrades at the lowest possible rate when you're in a ball, so you could keep that speed for a long time if you find a spot where you won't have to jump/travel up or down a slope. It's all frame perfect inputs though, and I don't think real-time it'd be worth it. If you screw up any inputs and hold forward a frame too long, you'll be going slower than you would have by just playing normally. If you pulled it off, it's only a 20-25%+ temporary increase and it's only gonna last until you need to jump or come across a slope. The second you jump and hold forward, it'll cap you back to normal/boost velocity (While in boost, air velocity cap is increased by 16%)
