I'm not a 'new=bad' guy. New covers look good on their own. I just like the old ones better for being more realistic and creepier.
I think the purpose of the cartoonier look of the new covers was to insure buyers that they're for kids so parents can know that they're safe for their 7 to 12 year old. They're not bad covers either. I like the 50s sci-fi/horror movie text for the titles too.
But I don't like that they changed the Goosebumps logo. That was a stupid move. You had this iconic, recognizable, brandable logo. What was wrong with it? Why change it? And of all the colors to make your gooey text, why white?

Same, thankfully I have nearly every book with the original covers, with the exception of The Curse of the Mummies Tomb because I lost my original copy, so I had to get the updated 2015 re-issue. • @ruggiebuggie3195
      @ruggiebuggie3195 Год назад +3

@@zacharyyamashita8554 I heard that the reason the logo changed was because it was a legal requirement due to a brutal falling out with Scholastic and Parachute Press that happened in the late 90s. I THINK it was that Scholastic owned the logo since they were in charge of marketing and distributing.
They're back together now. Yet, the logo hasn't changed back to the way it was. Guess that's just a permanent scar.

Tim Jacobus for sure only did worst than his competitor was Stay Out The Basement. Jim Thiesen's felt less goofy and it made you want to read the book.
Brandon Dorman's work isn't bad but they had big shoes to fill. Especially when it came to creating new covers despite the originals being iconic. But if you see his covers over time, he really mastered his style and knew how to create atmosphere like Tim. I even feel like his take at Haunted Mask 2 was much better than the original.

Don't hate most of the new ones, they got a cartoony vibe that's kinda cool, but I don't know. Tim Jacobus just has this way of creating an atmosphere like many have said. A lot of them sort of give me like liminal space vibes. Like I shouldn't be seeing the picture. That and then the plain, formatted text at the bottom just makes it feel weird to me. He gets beat in a couple, like the Scarecrow Walks at Midnight, because, while not scary, Dorman's just looks sick. But it being a horror series, Jabus knew what he was doing.

The Horror at Camp Jellyjam - Classic Goosebumps
Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes - Original
A Shocker on Shock Street - Original
The Haunted Mask II - Original (minor note: there is a new printing of the Classic Goosebumps version with an updated version of the cover. it's fine, but I think I prefer the original version of it. this is very confusing)
The Headless Ghost - Classic Goosebumps
The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena - Original

Night of the Living Dummy III - Original
Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns - Original

I grew up with the early Brandon Dorman covers, though I was mainly bothered about the Horrorland series. That was the MCU of children's horror fiction.

I had this idea of stop-motion, Laika studios (the animation studio that made Coraline) show based on the Goosebumps series, and I imagined the style of that show being a mixture of the Tim Jacobus and Brandon Dorman art style.
Also, just imagine a stop-motion version of "Night of the Living Dummy" and "One Day at Horrorland"

Tim’s work is much superior than Brandon’s. Tim’s weakest would be Stay out of the basement but even I found it pretty cool. Brandon does a great job in attracting the target audience (children) with the cartoony look. Both did great jobs but Tim for the absolute win!

I’d say most of the Brandon Dorman covers are improvements in every way if only not as nostalgic, except the Slappy covers. Every time Tim Jacobus makes a Slappy cover, it’s significantly creepier than any 2015 iteration.

Though, Jacobus' work is always top tier, I'm not going to pretend Brandon didn't do some of the covers well and a handful surpassed the original. I would say Brandon's best covers are "The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena", "Attack of the Jack o Lantern", "Please Don't Feed the Vampire", and "the Blob that Ate Everyone"

the worse is reprint is the Haunted Mask i mean hello where are Carly-Beth's overalls its what she always wore in the books and in the TV specials for 1 and ll
my fave cover is the original Night of the Living Dummy lll cause of the dim lighing and Slappy there in the middle leading his slaves...
