AI Generated Goosebumps Book Covers.

- I decided to play around with the AI generator tool "Midjourney AI" and have it re-create some classic Goosebumps book covers.
I wanted to compare Tim Jacobus's classic Goosebumps artwork with what a computer would create just by typing the title of the book into Midjourney AI.
Also as a side note, the word "Blood" is not allowed on Midjourney, so no Monster Blood rendition this time around.
This was the result!
I hope you enjoy!
If you read this let me know your thoughts on AI artwork and which AI generated goosebumps cover you like the most as well as think best fit the book title it's associated with.

Neat idea! BTW, what prompts did you use? I'm assuming the book titles, by how Say Cheese and Die! turned out😂, but anything else?
@@ThriftEGaming just the book title, I was curious what the AI would produce with only the book titles.
What did you use to generate those images
@@Georgering3 May I make a suggestion?
Do this again, But use the taglines. For example, Instead of putting "Say cheese and die", Put "One picture is worth a thousand screams."
I've remember goosebumps the tv series and book the covers leave a fucking terrifying yet engaging image
Holy fuck that ai did I couldn't put to context
I like how the "Say Cheese And Die" covers had nothing to do with death, but rather making dice out of cheese.
Genuinely made me happy seeing a bunch of triangle shaped cheese with eyes
The last cheese looked like Jason Voorhees tho which is genius I guess.
Idk they were kind of creepy. The last one looks like it has toenails in it.
I got a "killer cheese" vibe from them
AI couldn't understand the pun lol
Meanwhile in a alternate universe, were goosebumps is 18+ horror. These scary looking books exist.
They don't need to be rated mature
But I already got an impression on the cover art I used to watch the show in elementary and read a few books.
These vibrant covers scared me more than the forced horror covers adult horror novels had. R.L. Stine and Tim Jacobs really got me into reading. Sadly not one novel for adults has a cover that wakes my interest
R.L. Stine actually wrote some adult horror novels too.
Like the horror comics of old
@@eliben4066 good for you
The _Welcome to Camp Nightmare_ covers are kickass. Those look like they could be real book or movie covers.
The third one reminded me of Evangelion.
The first one with the lasers...
I like how in the second one it looks like a lil dude is standing on top of the tent
I like Ghost Camp where a tent has eyeholes, like an actually ghost/tent
The third one for "Let's get invisible" is incredible.
Agreed.
?
That one is my favorite.
That one seems like a fantasy it doesn’t look scary
@@YesHello_OkGoodbye sorry Bob didn't know fantasy couldn't be scary 🗿
The AI-generated images look good but the original books have a '90s charm that can't be duplicated.
I actually think that they can be but by humans AI still needs more work to understand subtle details that I think only humans can understand.
@@thewewguy8t88 I doubt it, AI has a hard time ever understanding things like sarcasm so I think creepy and yet charming art is basically impossible for it to make.
@@theliedetector2199 that's what I was saying.
@@thewewguy8t88 he was disagreeing with you saying that AI needs to get better, when he believes AI will never be able to replicate that and frankly I hope to agree; hope that clears confusion.
Anyway, yes, AI isn't good at pleasing to look at simplistic that have that disney parks sort of softness to them, its usually rigid and mezmarizing.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar not never just not yet
I love that the AI is unfamiliar with colloquialisms and has to interpret “say cheese” and “girl who cried monster” so literally.
The Girl Who Cried Monster covers are genuinely unsettling. They look to me like girls who are being constantly pursued by monsters, but nobody believes them, because the monsters only attack when they're alone. So they're crying because they're all alone and know that eventually they're going to be killed because there's no one there for them.
God, now I'm legitimately miserable about the fates of nonexistent children.
Interesting that the AI doesn't understand "say cheese" and "cried" as in shout. Are those images copyright protected in some way?
I thought that too, i think it has a hard time with some common phrases like "Say cheese" is actually for getting your photo taken (not literal cheese) and "Girl Who Cried Monster" is in reference to the well known story of the boy who cried wolf which I think that context is a little lost on the ai but holy wow the dummies and ghosts and masks ai comes up with are truly haunting O_O
The AI input is pretty literal.
At least in the U.S., copyright only applies to works created by humans.
@@GlossyCandle Shutterstock is copyrighting AI generated stock images by Dall-E in a mutual deal with OpenAI.
@@GlossyCandle What about human-created AI?
For "The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb," the AI renditions with multiple mummies are actually more accurate than the official book cover.
Well it said Mummy's as in a specific mummy not a bunch but yeah still cool
@@djamtz Yes, but there is no one mummy in the actual content of that book. It turns out to be a whole horde of them.
*Every other Goosebumps cover:* A twisted, eerie allusion to the deep-seated yet inexplicable terror lurking within the story.
*Say Cheese and Die:* spooky cheese 🧀

i always loved the little text on the covers and how some try to be all mysterious but then there's ones like the dead house "it will just kill you" that dont even try and it makes me laugh
Tim Jacobus' cover art is probably the reason most of read our first Goosebumps books as kids. It's so detailed and uncanny that it just grabs you.
His artwork is def responsible for at least >50% of Goosebumps success

If goosebumps was 18+
That's Fear Street
@@Xenunnaki Oh yeah lol
that's Stephen King
And came it in the modern day as well
@@Xenunnaki Fear Street 18+ ?? Not at all lmao
Some of them definitely look scarier than the original ones, but most of them were kind of cheesy. (no pun intended for say cheese and die)
Yeah the OG goosebumps covers always gave me the creeps 😬
Actually it is pun intended. Whether you intended it or not
Nah I disagree, most of them were far better than the original, and most of none of them were at all “cHeEsY” at all in ANY way. That’s just nonsense to say here.
I think the dead house covers were actually way better
@@Gadget-Walkmen What about the one with literal cheese?
These were amazing! The say cheese and die part was hilarious, the AI was quite literal. Never thought I'd see scary cheeses. Please continue to make more of these.
I love how Night of the Living Dummy is just the same picture but different
I never read Goosebumps, but this is still really cool.
They're pretty good books actually
You've missed out
Start with the werewolf one. I'm not a fan of Horror at all. But if you want stories that are like Stranger things ,this is it. Funny how the Real Goosebumps movies were nothing like the Original RL Stine Goosebumps but Stranger things and IT were Def more like Goosebumps.
This is legitimately how people could get designs for book covers in the future and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that
I don't give a shit as long as it looks horrifying or cool
Kinda think what dover thrift does with some it publications
No , the Original cover designs felt more original and better, giving that 90s, middle school illustrated books. The AI felt flat, with a small colour palette. So Don't worry, we're fine.
I like a few of the AI covers, but still ended up loving the originals much more. Goes to show how iconic the OG Goosebumps covers are
If anything it just makes you appreciate how creative & unique the original cover art even more.
Jesus the Slappy ones
The first generated cover for say cheese and die was my favourite it made me laugh out loud and I almost never laugh out loud at internet videos
Mixing the ai’s naturally surreal art with horror is such an obvious pairing I can’t believe I’ve never seen it before.
These are so badass.
Also, the "Say Cheese and Die!" ones are hilarious. 😂
The Girl Who Cried Monster AI images could be a whole different book.
"The lost girl" idk som like that.
These are incredible. The more distorted twisted versions really blends in well with the horrors children see with fear.
Holy 😳 This is amazing!!! Can you do the 2000s series, give yourself goosebumps, horrorland, and others? Definitely subbing, this definitely re-invents the Goosebumps series 👀
The first alternate cover art for the curse of the curse of the mummy looks so bad ass
The cover at 1:12 is actually really impressive
Fr
More Goosebumps books with Ai art !!
with a goosebumps tv show reboot in the works, i could totally see these being physical dvd covers!
Noone:
Alternate Universe R.L. Stine: *Releases alternate covers akin to trading cards.*
These look like album covers for metal bands, the girl who cried monster and the haunted mask ones kinda remind me of motionless in white, and the welcome to camp nightmare ones reminds me of the valley by Whitechaple.
Didn't think I could love goosebumps more.
These are really cool! Nice work!
Makes me wish of a goosebumps reboot in the future.
There is
*Goosebumps: “Say Cheese and Die” is about a cursed camera that when someone is taken a picture of, they die soon after..it is said that the picture taken before they die alludes to their death in some way…”*
*AI generated Goosebumps: “spooky dedly cheese make u go bye bye :) “*
This is actually really cool!
I cannot get over how amazing the 3rd pic of "Let's Get Invisible" looks!!!
Every Goosebumps covers: A twisted, eerie, and inexplicable horror that lurked within in the story.
Say Cheese and Die!: Oooh spooky cheese
Thanks for bringing back my memories when I used to get them back in 1999 through 2002
I got the idea to use ai art generator with goosebumps books today and came across this while looking though book covers. Look like you beat me to it! Nice work!
Wow a lot of these a really badass
You can tell when it's AI generated when "Say Cheese and Die" only has Cheese for the covers.
All of these would make epic album covers
Some of those were hilarious, like the AI Generated images for Say Cheese and Die. Others were *legitimately* awesome.
Does anyone else feel the need to constantly glance back and fourth at the compared covers, knowing damn well what the OGs look like.
HP. Lovecraft Goosebumps
This is so fucking amazing, holy shit! Hell I’d buy these books too!
lol... This brings back memories for me back in Elementary school.. I remember back in the early 90's.. We had to do book reports every weekend assigned Friday and would have to turn it in Monday Morning ( what we had to do was read a book and then write a summary, analysis over it about 1 page). so What I would do... I would never read any of the goosebump books, what I would do is copy the back of the goosebumps book back cover ( on the back cover, it always gave summary or analysis of what the book/story was about) and just used that on my book reports and actually got away with it; always making an A+. Lol, you have to admit, maybe it was Fraud..... but it was smart and that's how I got away without having to read books and could enjoy my weekends by going to the mall, movies, and playing video games; while all my other classmates were stuck reading the books all weekend!
LOL! So bad but funny you got away with it.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I read all the goosebumps books as a kid. I mean all of them
Stephen King’s Goosebumps.
The second Welcome To Dead House one and the third Let's Get Invisible one are excellent, probably my favorites
I appreciate that some of the AI covers were unequivocally better and scarier in my opinion (Dead House, Camp Nightmare, Mummy's Tomb) while others couldn't understand the meaning of the title or the play on words (Living Dummy, Ghost Next Door, Say Cheese and Die). Nice combination of AI and human superiority.
I guess my favorite for this batch would be the first Stay Out of the Basement one, with the girl(?) looking through the green glowing doorway with the shape of a person on the other side. It's both fitting for the story and has good atmosphere, while being something a bit more unexpected and unique (not sure if "original" is a word that can be applied to AI art, LoL).
Some of the gruesome Welcome to Dead House and Lovecraftian Welcome to Camp Nightmare ones are cool too, although probably a bit too scary for kids...
Every AI generated picture feels and looks the same like it just uses keywords and makes a random image based on them. Neat that it can do it but it’ll never replace real drawings or art.
Hey can you explain how you went about it? I always have trouble making my own book cover art for my stories
Goosebumps horror films for kids
Haunted mask, dead house, and night of the living dummy were my favs
They look pretty neat and all, but when it comes to the original illustrations there’s one thing that AI is missing that the original illustrations has-heart.
Anyone else notice the AI's tree obsession?!
AI art is both fascinating and terrifying.
Some of these are right on point. Amazing.
You could probably release those covers as limited edition variants, like comics.
This just proves how terrifying AI generated art is.
That was amazing. All but the say cheese one was visually terrifying. Nice work
Some of these are genuinely more terrifying than the og art ngl.
Except for the cheese one, that had me cackling.
Goosebumps are those books which you'd keep as a Treasure, coz you know these cover designs once gone, won't come back and so the nostalgia. My friend gifted me some books and I've still treasured it. The Werewolf cover was THE BEST!
It's interesting how these AI art pieces almost construct their own narratives with the little context you get to go off of.
This is incredible 👏 well done! What's the name of the Ai your using?
Watching this brings back memories
These are OUTSTANDING
Surely I can't be the only one who'd want to read 18+ Goosebumps horror stories, made of pure nightmare fuel.
These are amazing! I want them as prints ❤
it clearly wasnt programmed to know what say cheese really meant
I forgot how good the goosebumps theme song is, they don’t make bangers like that anymore.
They look like a color interpretation of the "Scary Stories" art style, and are legit creepy and awesome. I also like how the AI is still learning and makes mistakes, it actually adds to it with weird unnatural, surreal features here and there.
There's a variant cover for "Stay Out Of The Basement" that shows the plant creature in full and not just the hand.
This is amazing, including the slowed down theme
Some of these are actually pretty good.
could you post the images in a drive or something? itd be cool to try and iterate on some of them.
It seems to me that the AI takes a more literal approach to how it illustrates its "understanding" of the words it uses.
I kind of dig the more literal approach, cause often times we humans tend to use more philosophical or implied fear in the words we use for something we describe.
Cool stuff
I can't believe how incredible the alternate book covers look! Maybe Skynet isn't such a bad idea! 🙃
These covers images go hard
They are amazing
Man I didn't know cheese was that scary
I started this same concept awhile back, I was able to complete the entire first series of 62 books.
The alt arts for Curse of the Mummie's Tomb are dope.
Ngl some of these look sick and cool.
Dope.. and that music brings back memories. Also which AI image creator was used ?
Thanks
Goosebumps if they were instead Scary Stories to tell in the Dark
I don't know why I loved this as much as I did.. but I want to look up more stuff like this. Some of those covers were scary!
I approve, they all look so good. In an alternate universe these could be real covers.
"I will know if i made in life if i can just pause snd sketch goodebumps covers!
THAT IS MY GOAL
What a genius idea!
The say cheese and die covers are hilarious.
Beksinski is doing pretty well as the new Goosebumps cover artist.
Always knew there was something AI could generate well.
