I feel Viking nation needs to put on the brakes a bit on McCarthy. All I see is how if McCarthy takes over, we are turning into a dangerous team. While I would be very excited if this were true, my expectations of him are more down to earth. I hope he progresses enough throughout the season to take the starter job, but even then, I feel there is going to be a big learning curve for him. The odds of drafting a QB and him turning into a long term starter in the NFL is about 1 in 3. I fully back JJ, but I am not getting my hopes up until he shows he can play.

I'm actually hoping that Sam Darnold takes the job in training camp. He's a veteran now, and he was a high first rounder. He's due to start looking like a serious QB.

What an unbelievably stupid comment. You don’t just magically become good because you’re a veteran and were drafted high. Why even watch if you’re this uneducated about football? Darnold is a backup on all 32 teams in the nfl.

I hope they keep Mullens on the active roster. He has the most experience with the playbook, the coaches and the receivers. His knowledge will come in handy in the QB room. Plus, to me he's like a cross between Tommy Kramer and Brett Favre, two of my favorite former Vikings QB's. I think they can keep Hall on the practice squad.

McCarthy is a guy with an NFL body and pro arm strength. He's a blank canvass after that. The QB coaching will be key. Michigan did not do anything that resembles Nfl passing. McCarthy had his best moments on play action plays when the wr was wide open. He struggled when trying to layer passes

    • @susanmoon5021

JMc's coach at Michigan (for all 3 years) Jim Harbaugh - who had success with 49ers before taking Michigan job -- was known for haivng his players play an NFL type system. Watch clips of Rose Bowl game against Alabama - especially the drive with about 4 minutes left to go in the game, when JMc marched them down field for TD. Also see stats concerning his passes over the middle section of field - they were at a higher volume and success rate of almost any other player in draft. This is the section of field that NFL coaches like to use. Many of those passes are into highly trafficked - contested areas. Given this, the only way I can understand his low interception rate is that his passes are so deadly fast (measured at 61 miles at the Combine, the fastest there)

    • @antmillner
      @antmillner 4 месяца назад

@susanmoon5021 maybe McCarthy threw several nfl type passes, but for the most part they ran the ball and caught people off guard with very simple passes. He is gonna sit the bench for a year because of this. He is not prepared. But he'll be good when he gets some teaching

Interesting that you'd use the word zip with Darnolds arm... I've read from several others that were at the same ota that there's a noticeable difference between McCarthy and Darnold arm strength. Darnold does not have the zip or strength and it is a noticeable difference.

  • @BaronVonBielski

  • @intrepidfool

I think it is highly unlikely that Mullens will be QB2 to start the season. I don’t think he can beat out Darnold for the job. Maybe if another team has an injury and they trade for Sam Darnold. Otherwise, Darnold will be QB2 and Mullens QB3.

I'll bet he doesn't. McCarthy expectations have cooled wayyy down since the OTAs during which he looked not so good, which surprised me since I set unrealistic expectations like many others.
He's a good salesman whose first presser convinced me he had a solid mental grasp on things. Back to earth now realizing that was all bs.
Mahomes is rarer than even we think. Very rare hitting the ground running at such a high level instantly.
Williams in Chicago looks like he might be that way. Spectacular veteran-like OTAs for him.
      Hmmmm.

Don’t really know, but I’ve watch Darnold play at USC and with the Jets and Panthers, his inability to make plays when they are needed and he is prone to turnovers. The coaches will make the decision, but this is going to a tough season, would like to go with McCarthy let him make the mistakes and get better on the field.

I disagree. He has more talent around him than ever before in his NFL career and the coaches will help him. He just needs to play within the system. If KoC can make cousins look like a top 5 qb than he can do the same with a guy with more god given talent.
