    The fact a government society fell sooner than a bunch of isolated technophiles is what gets me mad. The BoS has been shown to not be as big as they are portrayed in the show.
    But given the terrible way the show explains basic shit and even introducing new stuff like ghouls needing whatever the fuck vials to survive, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided the BoS take in wasters, which if I recall breaks their chain or code or whatever.
    I believe the vegas chapter stuck to the BoS laws, meaning no wasters can join, period. You're either born into the BoS or you're not.

      You are correct. The West Cost faction of BoS was legacy; born into it. Bethesda changed that lore in Fallout 3 and the East Coast faction of BoS, then continued it in Fallout 4. It was, by their own lore, a big rift in the BoS between the West Coast and East Coast. They are now simply working to erase all previous canon by saying the West Coast BoS took in wasters, as well.

  • @Godzilla52
    @Godzilla52 8 месяцев назад +21

    For me I think the debate of it being canon or not doesn't really matter when the show does all it can to erase most of the footprints of existing West Coast lore (no NCR infrastructure or post war adobe built farms or settlements in what's supposed to be one of their economic heartlands and has been for nearly a century, regressing the West Coast to the Bethesda static & lawless wasteland trope. Where essentially everything appears as if it's perpetually frozen in time 50 years or so after bombs fell)
    Instead of the previously mentioned adobe settlements, everyone lives in Fallout 3 & 4 inspired shanty towns like Filley covered in garbage and pre war junk. Though considering that the region and it's outskirts should be littered with post-war adobe infrastructure that's better maintained, has access to clean drinking water and is connected to long established trade routes, it makes no sense that these people (almost all of which should be former NCR citizens) would opt to live in places like Filley or worse yet, dilapidated pre-war houses in the middle of the desert.

      @@RedStar441 I guess it depends on what people mean by faithful. It's fairly faithful to the asthetics & lawless Wasteland trope of Fallout 3 & 4, but extremely disrespectful to West Coast lore. For most fans that have only played Fallout 3 & 4, they don't really see the issue. But I think regardless of that the static wasteland problem is something that Fallout needs to move away from. Keeping everything frozen like the apocalypse only happened several decades ago is making new releases for the franchise fairly repetitive at this point.
      There's no point moving the chronology forward if each new Fallout IP only wants to maintain that trope (they might as well set things before Fallout 1 and that point.

      It’s not hard to see down the road that happening to the NCR. However the NCRs destruction and the territory’s complete devolution demands further explanation. Shady Sands getting nuked surely could destroy the NCR as an organization, but that doesn’t explain at all what happened to other cities within the NCR like the boneyard. Just because DC got nuked in the real world that wouldn’t mean that every state in the union would collapse into complete anarchy.

    The issue with dates, timelines and placement of shady really exposes incompetence more than anything. The fact that we have to debate a chalk board timeline because the show didn't convey it well is embarrassing. Then you have people straight up writing for bethesda to make it work. We need to stop this.
    One thing that CANNOT be written out is that Shady Sands is NOT in the LA boneyard. The first 2 games are 1:1 scale, they are clearly far away from each other (almost 300 miles actually), and are two separate, explorable locations that have very different purposes. They even became two separate states in the NCR. There is no amount of head cannon or mental gymnastics that can make this work, nor can it simply be waved off as a retcon. They are two major locations in the first game and part of the narrative, LA is where the Master was operating and where the Church was blown up. THIS is what needs to be fixed or addressed.

    Every other faction has been given the boot. In New Vegas, the brotherhood can barely keep it self together, and the enclave is at best a squad of noble wastelanders wanting to make a better name for their family. The NCR did in it's final moments what most factions try to do in 10 or 20 years- so I dumbfounded to how they did them dirty, if anything the only other faction you can compare them too is the eastern brotherhood chapter-
    When DUST made it clear it was most likely that New Vegas would fall due to mostly the tunnelers, we praised to to hell and back, when the TV show does something like it, suddenly it's a issue.

There's no post war adobe built infrastructure and everybody just lives as dirty hobos in shanty town made from garbage and pre-war junk (or worse yet dilapidated pre-war houses in the middle of the desert with no supplies or amenities). It took one of the most interesting regions in the franchise and turned it into Bethesda style static/lawless wasteland where everything looks like it was frozen in time 50 years or so after the bombs fell. "The bombs fell when I was a kid" - Maximus, Fallout season 1 episode 5. Maximus refers to bombs, plural, not a single bomb which deflates the videos conjecture as to why only Shady Sands was bombed. Based on what Maximus said to Lucy, we can imply that Vault-Tec didn't just bomb Shady Sands, it hit every single major city in the NCR, which may have only been a few more cities, but enough to effectively set back the NCR by well over a century, if not entirely end it, and would also revert much of California to its wasteland state from the fallout radiation from the bombs.
    As far as the chalkboard discrepancy goes, there is no discrepancy. The arrows in the timeline on the chalkboard clearly indicate passage of time between events. The Fall of Shady Sands, whatever that may mean, doesn't equate to the date of the bombing even if there is no date for the bombing on the chalkboard. That's left ambiguous and probably was done so on purpose by the showrunners. We do know that both Lucy and Maximus are portrayed as being in their early twenties given the their status in their relative factions and that Maximus was portrayed as being approximately 4 - 6 years old in the flashback scenes after the bombing of Shady Sands which would make the bombing an event that occurred somewhere between 2284-2286, not 2277 so there is no inconsistency with the lore of the West Coast from the Fallout games.

This leaves Hank (and other factions) to try and take over the strip in the next season by getting hold of Yes Man. Now if the chalk board had on it "The fall of the NCR 2277" that would be reasonable as that’s when the first costly battle of Hoover dam was and in NV the NCR seem to be struggling with over expansion and supply issues. You’re wrong. Sorry.
    regardless of whether or not it perfectly aligns with the games, it is still a good show. I honestly don’t care if it fits, we could just say it’s an alternate universe. Fallout games never have a perfectly consistent lore, and things often clash in ways that don’t perfectly align with previously stated lore.
    That being said, it does fit.
    The showrunner has stated that New Vegas is still canon, which confirms it is. “The fall of Shady Sands” refers to internal strife and political struggles- saying that the NCR was beginning to lose faith in its leadership. This is literally what New Vegas shows so this is the correct interpretation.
    I also think you are misreading Vault Tecs philosophy on nukes. In previous games, it’s been shown Vault Tec had nukes. Vault-Tec didn’t get to use any of its nukes, I highly doubt that the ghoul's wife would have allowed him to have his kid out on the day she knew they would be nuked. Considering she’s close to the top of the company, no way in hell she wouldn’t know.
    The show goes to great lengths to explain that the reason Vault TEC hadn’t used its nukes is because it had no reason to. All of the people with access to nukes were in Vault 31, people who were cryogenically frozen and woken to run Vault 33. They had never even left the vault until Lucy’s mom left, and that’s when Lucy’s father found out about the Shady Sands and nuked them. He only did it because he didn’t want them to have information to lead them to the vault. It makes perfect sense, he can’t destroy something they don’t have any reason to know about.
    None of the other members of management had ever even stepped out of the vault, and it seems the vault has no form of outside communication outside of opening the door to let people back in.
    I also wanna make the point that making fun of this writer being the guy who wrote Game of Thrones's final season is stupid and shows you don’t know how writing a television show works. Like, TV shows have multiple writers, and the credited writer is in charge of putting together a script. This final episode was an all-hands-on-deck affair, and the credited writer just got a say over the final pass. If none of your other points make sense and the only point left is “lol he wrote this other thing I don’t like-“ you are being biased dude.
    Finally, I think the point about it being bad that the audience doesn’t get to see New Vegas get destroyed in a massive fight is stupid. You do realize this game series is called “Fallout” right? It’s not about the big events, it’s about the aftermath of big events. I see no reason why a ruined New Vegas means we can’t still have an interesting story. Learning what happened to New Vegas is way more interesting than just seeing played out beat for beat. That would be so boring, the whole point is the mystery.
    If you don't like the show, that's fine. But don't make up reasons why it's bad. Form an argument, or just admit you can't explain why.

    • @Godzilla52

      The issue is that it pretty much kills West Coast Fallout lore going forward by resetting everything to a Bethesda style static & lawless wasteland where everyone lives in garbage and it perpetually appears that things are frozen in time no more than 50 years since the bombs fell. (even as the chronology moves forward) Unless season 2 corrects it, it's likely that little to no remnants of West Coast lore still exist and if other official IPs want to continue those stories are appropriate those settings, it will no longer be possible. It's not a bad show, but it's implications for the franchise going forward are terrible, because it ensures the dominance of the static wasteland trope in all regions of the franchise for the foreseeable future and dumbs down the world building.

Obsidian has asked to be allowed to do another Fallout game on numerous occasions and are always told no. Fallout 4 released, was derided, and then Fallout 76 that was a disaster. Think Todd wants another Fallout game made by Obsidian that would be hailed as better than his games? I mean, they ARE saying no to the money a new Obsidian Fallout game would bring in.
      As for the tv series, if you wanted to erase the lore of the game hailed as the best Fallout game and far better than your games, what would you do? You'd nuke the lore in the show so the new people don't see it as canon; only your lore.

      So wierd people want both good and consistent writing right? What would the point be to get invested in lore if you know it could just be changed when the next story in the series comes out.

      I cant wait for Season 2 to neatly explain what exactly happened to Shady in relation to NV because of all this bitching, they are just gunna have to do it all in one flashback episode to appease the NV wierdo's.

      The fallout fandom is a constant cycle of every fan blaming the other types of fans. New Vegas fans complain about other games while other fans complain about New Vegas fans repeat that forever. Because fandom fandom never changes

      If you set this show in the pacific north west or canada it'd be fine. But slapping this shit on the west coast when it's already had an established history is lazy.

    Again "the game's sense of goofy humor" I don't understand where people are getting that. There's no goofy humor in the games anywhere close to the show. Perhaps fallout 4 but that's the extent of it

      "There's a lot of earning potential at the end of the world" is also one of the dumbest lines I've ever heard. Crazy if came from Mr House's mouth.

    If you look into the Interplay era of Fallout its clearly shown that Chris Avalone planned on the NCR getting nuked or destroyed in Van Buren, so yall mfs blaming bethesda for the idea dont know shit abt the series at all when this was the plan all along.

    • @ncrranger2281
      @ncrranger2281 8 месяцев назад +5

      Thats not true, no one would have nuked the NCR in Van Buren. Victor Prespers goal, the main antagonist, was to wipe every lifeform from Earth with the help of B.O.M.B.-001 space station not just the NCR and the players goal was to stop him!

    • @barricadedpurifier
      @barricadedpurifier 8 месяцев назад +3

      No? If you actually looked at it, it wasn’t the NCR getting nuked but the entirety of what’s left of America, EVERYTHING. Not just NCR. And you’re supposed to stop the bad guys from doing so with the help of every faction.

      If you're referring to the show it has been said by Todd that it is as canon as it gets if you're talking about fallout new vegas there isn't a canon ending.
