Welcome to the Mojave world! After 10 years in a JK Rubicon I went through the same thought process when I decided to do a JT for my next build. It really came down the reinforced frame and the fact that I could get 37"s under it without much effort. A fender chop and a bit more bump stop was all it took. Some orange headlight film on those LP6s will make them easier on the eyes at night...and will match your orange accents really well.
Look at the Alucab flush mount load bars. I’ve had good luck with mine and they flush mount. Lower gravity and better looks, less noise. I have the shw drawer system in my gladiator. They are worth it. Can’t wait for some videos of the build!! 💪
You are reading my mind on the drawers. We’ll see if I can get them, but really love the design. I’ll look at the Alucab bars thanks for the tip. I did everything in the vid in two weeks to get ready for the bdr..so I was at the mercy of what was in stock for some of that stuff.
@@Venture2Roam oh I know. I got my diesel gladiator feb of 2022. EVERYTHING was backordered. Took about 7 months for the aev lift. Another year before I got the aev 8100 bypass shocks I wanted. It’s better now.
I would highly recommend the new Toyo A/T trail. I have them on my 3500HD diesel truck and I love them. they’re very comfortable and they have incredible traction for the type of tread design. And a few of my friends have them on their vehicles as well, and that’s how I heard of them.
Also, the Toyo R/T trail tires that I was telling you about our lighter than the mud train Tires or the standard Toyo R/T tire. They are roughly 85% stronger than a standard all-terrain tire but they do not have a three ply sidewall, they have a two ply extra thick reinforced sidewall. You’ll get better fuel economy and a smoother ride. I have had them on my truck for a few months and they absolutely do fantastic on an off-road. I have had them in the rain, heavy rain for that, dirt and sand and deep mud with no issues. I have not tried them in yet, but I heard really good things about them in those conditions when aired down. And people that I know that have them on a heavy duty truck like myself say when they’re not towing, they air them down to 60 psi and they work really well in the winter.
Great recommendation! I’m using Nitto Recon Grapplers because Nitto sent me the tires. I’ll test them out and see if I like them. At that point I may or may not keep them. These Toyos sound like a great option to consider, thsnks for sharing.
I love having a single full length side bin on my smartcap. Adds a ton of utility, but with the other side open still let’s me access the back of the bed without crawling In.
Love the Gladiator! Wish you would have went with an Xtrustion rack build but totally get why you went the way you did. I might have an unpopular opinion but I really think Jeep messed up when they made the soft top as an option at all on the Gladiators. I don't think they look good at all, unlike a Wrangler with one, and as you found out they aren't really good to use. I know the final build will be awesome and will be a great vehicle for the channel and what you guys do. Looking back I wish I would have went Mojave instead of Rubicon but you hit at the end when you were talking about it and having the easy disconnect button and front locker just in case is good.
I think Xtrusion makes a good product, I just wanted something to keep the dust out better. I honestly loved the soft top. You're right that they look ridiculous when open..but I never cared about that because on the inside, it was great. It was WAY better than my JK soft top (which was terrible). Pretty quite on at highway speeds...but when the RTT went on, it changed the wind pattern and that's when we realized we needed a hard top. But if I weren't running an RTT...I might still have it (until winter anyway). Ya the push button Sway bar is the one feature I regret not having..but overall..I really love the Mojave. 37s are going on tomorrow...should be very interesting!
Shots fired!!! Let's go. 😂 I think they actually asked Doug to make the Goose Gear table first and he said no...which is why theirs looks remarkably similar to the Outback Adventures table..GP put on different hinges, which is nice..but Doug is the OG!
Super excited to come back home in our Gladiator and go run all around my old stomping grounds. Still have family in the Boise area. What would you say would be a good day run while visiting. Really enjoying the content. Thank you.
Hey Wil....I ran into the same problem regarding the swaybar disconnect (On a JK though). I got my hands on a Rubicon swaybar and mounted it to the JK. There are a couple options, 1 from Team Tech Offroad and the other from EVO. They both make an adapter that mounts on the swaybar (in place of the electronic module) that allows you to disconnect with the ARB air compressor. I have been using it for about 3 years now and have not had any issues.
@@Venture2Roam Not sure but I would imagine they make the same thing for the JL. Got mine off a Rubicon in the junkyard that was totaled after a rear end collision.
I’ve been following your channel since you’ve started, and I super dooper love what you’re doing! Love the builds, the gear, and most of all, that you always say “we”… your inclusion of your wife and family is amazing! Keep your videos coming!! ❤
I love that you pick up on that. It’s truly a family affair. In fact Kate is super involved in the Mojave build. It’s been a great shared project. Thanks for following along!
Have to say I have the SmartCap on my Mojave with a Decked drawer system in the bed. I love it but have to say there are pros and cons. Two main cons are 1) capacity. It doesn’t make Best use of all the space in the back of the gladiator. If you really need every inch packed in then another option might be better. At the same time I’m finding that organizing in it with some stuff on top is more than plenty for things that I need to carry, so it may not be a total con. 2) Power connections. Adding the power outlet in the back needs to be done before you put a deck system in or you need to remove the system and rewire to pull your connections up where they’re reachable. This is primarily a con because I’m too lazy to take my deck system out. One pro is the ability to also mount your ARB twin air system behind one of the canister pockets and run your air out through the back of the drawer system. Doesn’t take up much room & works well. Another pro the decked is that it just works. I have beaten on it for almost 2 yrs and not a single issue.
Great info! I love that Deck'd is an Idaho company, but I'm leery of the space/weight ratio compared to the SHW Offroad set up. But I love how the drawers roll on the Deck'd system.
@@Venture2Roam With the weight of the SmartCap and the Decked I ran level totally loaded (without a RTT). The weight was concerning to me but I haven't had any issues. Those drawer rollers seem indestructible. Can't wait to see your choice!
I always love your build videos. I get great ideas. I wonder if you ever considered a Power Wagon over the Gladiator. For room and family I think the PW is better. I know they seem big but not much really compared with the Gladiator.
Yes! I actually test drove a PW. Loved it. It was just too big for me. I often run really tight trails and it was too big of a leap for me from a Wrangler. I love those trucks though. Probably a better desert runner than the Mojave, but less versatile in tight spots.
A little unknown fact about that soft top is that’s a holdover from the AMC Renault merger. Those tops were used by Renault from the 1960s on originally I believe in the Renault 4 than the Renault 5 or LeCar in the US.
Love the channel and what you are doing w/ the two builds. My wife and I moved our family to the Boise area 2 years ago, and I have a 392 and my wife drives a new Bronco Raptor. Quick question - what antenna mount did you get for your radios? I'm having trouble finding one for my 392. Thx for all you do. Love following the adventures that you, your family, and your friends are having!
Whoa…you two have two incredible rigs! The antenna mount was just an Amazon buy. $40. It’s really simple bracket. Just search Jeep JL front antenna mount and I bet it comes up.
Nice rigs. The Mojave will be a good platform for a medium hard overland. Also, what happen with the jk. Are you going to sell it? Anyway, I'm happy for you and I will see you in the next adventure.
I appreciate how much thought you put into choosing your rigs. And their names. It's like they are your dogs lol. But I'm curious, can you say a bit more about why leather seats are so important for you and your family. Thank you.
Leather is so easy to clean vs cloth. It smells better overtime…and it just a bit more impervious to the constant abuse of the kids 😂. Nothing against cloth, but we’ve had both and are staying with leather(or leather-like) seats.
Great question. It's because it's more than a family camper..it's our family truck too..so I'm using the truck bed for a lot more than camping. It's also what I take the kids to school in everyday..so I like to be able to take the tent off in between trips. The GFC style camper are great, and there might be a time when I go that direction..but right now, I like it as a true utility vehicle.
Quick question, how did you get your Falcon Pro mounted onto your bars? From what I know the Pioneer platform's rails run length wise instead of across? Currently looking at get a RTT, but it's been bugging me as to how to get it mounted.
Sure. Here's a link to it. I didn't go in depth on it because there's a to cover..but it's a fantastic radio. I just keep the screen in my center console (out of the way). But you could mount it if you wanted..it's big..but really good: amzn.to/3Q4rALG
Sweet - congrats on the new rig! Did you consider a canopy camper setup for Trip, or was cost a deciding factor along with the fact you probably already had a 2nd RTT?
I just bought 10 gauge wire and a 10 guage inline fuse setup..ran the wire to the back..then got a pretty standard Cig Lighter 12V plug in..all from Amazon. Used a step bit to drill out the Cig Lighter 12V plug. Super easy install.

Epic Adventure Outfitters sent me the Kraken (I bought the compressor). MetalCloak sent me the suspension. Elka is sending me shocks. Outback Adventures sent me the tailgate table. Baja sent me the lights. Everything else I paid cash for. However, getting a sponsorship is far from free gear. At best, it’s a trade..goods for services. And I’m a one man show, so the hours I put in, even at minimum wage pay off those trades in very little time. BUT I do feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to build a channel that is now at a point that I can make some of those deals. It definitely speeds up a build.
