  • In Part 3 of the series, John, Alex, and Allen reveal how Jesus wants to rescue us from the barriers to fully experiencing God and his kingdom. Returning to the life we were created for isn't a complicated process. But it does require us to exchange our cynicism, skepticism, and pragmatism for the simple trust of a child.

    So helpful to note brother Laurence called the daily walk with God practice. No switch, no load command - just daily seeking him as we go about life. Exhale.

    I'd like to share a quote my wife pulled up from our daughter:
    "The Bible is magical, but it's not exactly magical. Prophets do amazing things, like magic, but they're actually doing it by the power of God. And power is stronger than magic." - Charis, age 9 Feb 2023.
    I was sharing with my wife about this episode, and she recalled this quote. They were reading through the Old Testament (Egermeier's Bible Story Book) as part of their home school curriculum at the time and this emanated from her heart. Spiritual songs and thoughts about God's heart and His Spirit filling the earth come up regularly and it blows us away. The was a good one and I thought you'd enjoy it!

    The Divine Romance is the heart of Christian mysticism. I enjoy God as brings wonder and gentle friendship, something I could not find on my own.

    I really like the pouring water in a glass of wine metaphor, we have enough information online for the whole word to digest, but what truth is coming from God through people? God's Word will satiate us, but not if we are too busy to meditate and dwell with our Father, God. Anyway, I really liked listening to this episode. "Pod of whales return to the ocean". 🤣🤣🤣

    If God is in Jesus and Jesus is in us then His presence is always with us. We can not get away from His presences.

    Excited to learn more about "ordinary mysticism". Appreciate the vulnerabilities of your group in admitting the societal pulls to keep us out of connecting.

    Maybe we separate the one from the other too much? Like, in our imagination, like a huge wall between there and here? Maybe... we divide the natural life from the spiritual life? I think so. Brother Lawrence made his whole life a service and praise to God. He expected to find him in simple acts like peeling potatoes, was aware of glory in the most annoying works, God's presence whereever he found himself. He expected God to be already in every situation, showing him something, giving him insight, meeting him, providing symbolic allegories in his profane tasks.
    When we kind of separate our daily tasks from the presence of God, like: We pray for union and step out working out of own strength, we'll be like an ent- a tree, planted by the riverbanks, that chooses to take its roots and walk the dry land to return in the evening-not expecting to find God in profanities and whatever we do. An amphibium- it is ALWAYS both, though more dependent on water than reptilians are. It can live on land, yes, for a while...but it has to return to the water in order not to dry out. So: Put an amphibium all too long in a desert, and it will surely die.
    I dunno how you actually write, I have a guess, though, an insight given to me. So I assume: If you write, guys, you lean into Jesus, asking for His presence, asking for artistry, and it ...flows from you, unexpected, surprising, nourishing. Well, at least- its that way with me. Its that state Brother Lawrence had. In all he did.
    Frankly: I think you cannot "make someone a mystic". Mystic happens. You can awaken curiosity, and maybe...you can mention that there is a room somewhere with a huge wooden closet- but as long as people are trying to search it, theyll find fur coats- nothing more.
    Mystic- happens to you, and once you found it, more, it found you- youll never lose it again. *edited due to an additional example and paragraphs for easy reading only*

    Thanks. Very helpful. Especially Jer 17 but just plain the insights around the point that striving for omniscience leads away from the trust in God which is our one and only habitat we thrive in, Thanks!
    I have one request. Please consider Alex taking off his cap. He has such sparkling eyes that I'd like to bond with more as I'm listening 😉

    Hey John, love you and love the podcast. One question: I know that there have been many people who were supposedly “hearing from God” but ended up causing much error and heartache. I know in my personal life I have thought I heard things from God and I either misunderstood them or didn’t hear anything except my own emotions talking. Would you mind to address that at some point down the line if you weren’t planning on doing so already? Again, love the podcast and the messages you are giving the world through this platform. Looking forward to hearing more.

      Thanks for your comments! We've done several podcasts on hearing the voice of God that might interest you:
      * Conversational Intimacy with God: November 14, 2016
      * Walking with God series: July 15 - August 5, 2019
      * Hearing God in the Everyday: Oct 10 - 17, 2022
      Plus John's book, Walking with God, is all about learning to hear the voice of God. As is the free video series based on the book that's on www.wildatheart.org Thanks again!

    The Presence is entirely and necessarily possible. One must simply find the way, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to fit into the pattern of the Kingdom. Simply keep trying. We are here, walking with Jesus, rebuilding the Garden. His original garden, not some modern facsimile.

    lol, I almost skipped the "pause" part of the video, because honestly I think the music is a bit cheesy and I just wanted to get to the "real stuff". But then I didn't. I guess that's kinda the point of this series ;)

    I have been pursuing this the last few years and would love to connect with others in my area who are also pursuing it. I checked your website and I see gatherings for men in various places but not women or mixed groups. Is there a resource to connect with others who are like-hearted?
