I wish more businesses released build videos like this. It is inspiring and humbling to watch talented artisans at work.
Also, you appreciate the cost more.
I could watch hours of just craftsmen building bits, pieces, parts and assembling. This is mesmerizing
I want one but with amethyst dust saying in elvish: "Long may he reign." A token for Molly.
A "Tolkien" for molly.
I'll see myself out...
Dayum, I make my own dice boxes, and most of the process looks the same... but that laser engraver makes me jealous
Forget elvish we need some dwarvish dice vaults!
I have really liked my dice vault and tray, its cool to see the process you guys go through in making them.
Absolutely stunning! Love watching you guys do your thing! True craftsman!
Love your use of templates and jigs!
Just stunning final products. True craftsman at work!
Every single time a watch a video of yours, it leaves me more amazed than the previous one, the craftsmanship of every single product you have is amazing
i heard matt mercer's voice in the background "REGULAR GNOLE" hehe, critical role 2, here i come!
These videos r like woodworking asmr
They all look amazing...but that black one has the look Id like. The elvish writing was a brilliant touch!
3:42 , That flip tho. :3
Arthur 4:09 too
Masters at work. Beautiful.
Elvish is nice I'd definitely like to see Dwarvish an maybe even Draconic or Giant
Baron Bishop Yep. Them giant runes are SEXY
This video was amazing. So mesmerizing to watch true artisans creating these!
thank you 😄
Gosh, they look so beautiful. I could watch you guys make things all day. Absolutely wonderful.
Thank you 😄this is a secret, but we have another crafting video coming soon that you won't want to miss...
@@WyrmLyfe 😲
Look at what’s on their workbenches. It’s good to see they use quality finishes and products in the manufacturing.
I'm a Alarm & CCTV Technician by trade but have always been interested in woodwork and carpentry. I am considering making the switch. Especially after seeing very satisfying videos like this.
so pretty and so much love into it!
Deliciously satisfying 😌 🎲
Just the process of it all looks beautiful yet quite fun, makes me wish I had the money to start myself practicing or work for somewhere like this and learn the trade 😭
I hope you bring these back in 2021
This is awesome! What process are you using for The I fill after the laser engraving?
Looks like powders, CA glue, accelerator and careful sanding.
wow, magical
absolutely beautiful
Ahhhh, woodworking or wyrmworking.
Very nice product, the lazer engraver was very impressive. (No pun intended).
Thanks for sharing & have a great day.
gorgeous.
1:57 Oooh that snap was satisfying!
I love these videos and being able to see different steps and craftsmanship that go into what you do! Out of curiosity is that CA glue that you used to hold the filler in the dice vaults or is it some other kind of bonding agent?
Thank you 😄and yes, you're right. It's CA glue
Wyrmwood Awesome thank you👍🏻
Which form of elvish have you used? I’d love to know so I can decode it. It seems to be some form of Sindarin, but I’m not sure.
What is that aerosol spray that you guys use on the insides of the box there?
What type of oil/wax are you finishing these with?
Straight up ASMR
Can you please tell me what kind of CA glue you use? I have been learning how to do inlay like this, and the thin Ca glue i use just beads up in the copper powder, and then, I often have pits and holes in the finished inlay, where the CA didn't soak in correctly.
how to you get the raised walls on the bottom part?
What did you use to fill in the engraving?
What was that tool in the beginning called? Some sort of sideways router?
That’s a whole lot of machinery for being made by hand
What kind of magnets are those, are they like screw magnets or something?
what are the types of magnets they use
These videos are so amazing. Any chance you'd let me know what finish that is? The thick, orange stuff. I love the look of it.
Tried & True. Beeswax and linseed oil.
Nice work once again, what kind of magnets do you guys use?
Neodymium! :) (Rare earth)
what is the song used at the end?
I am genuinely curious about putting a finish on the box prior to the engraving and then sanding and adding another round of finish. were they different boxes?
Good video! Very fun to watch.
Imho it prevents the product they put on after to damage the wood and therefore needing to remove (sand) a whole lot of material rather than the coat of finish they previously added.
I’m curious which product they used to fill the engraving, if anyone has an idea ?
We don't use the oil prior to the fills. The polyurethane only goes on the inside. :)
these are devine
This is very nice and a good look into exactly how these dice vaults are made, but when will the order I placed on November 20th be shipped out?
Are you talking about the chthulu dice vaults?
@@WyrmLyfe No it was the Roleplayers gift set from the Roll The Dice offer. whenever I check the order it still just shows processing.
Hope you guys figured it out, in the end.
@@mesaysit2 so as of today, 3/9/19, have you received your item(s)? Has your payment gone through?
@@vampyrew0lf yes, the items ended up shipping maybe a week after the orginal comment.
Love these ‘making of’ videos. Although it has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what the name of the tool that cuts the hole for the Dice Vaults, like at the beginning of the video. I think it is a type of milling machine but all I get are Stupid CNC machines in my searches. Doug / Bobby help!
Michael Miller look for Horizontal Mortiser or Horizontal Slot Mortiser.
@@wanderwiththeworkmans8643 DUDE! You are AWESOME! I have been trying to figure this out for months! Not even my wood distributor knew what the machine was called! Thank you! Thank you!
Hey just an Fyi the link to these dice vaults goes to an empty promotion page. Not sure if they're just not out yet or what but figured better to mention it.
Should be all set now! Thanks :)
What is that tool he is using at the beginning to carve out the center? I have never seen anything like it before
It's a slot mortiser!
@@kelliemaxwell8420 Thank you very much!
By hand *immediately uses a power tool*
By hand means its made by a human and not a computer and machines. Does not mean a human cannot use a power tool. If that was all hand made as you think it, that box would be hundreds of dollars because of the hours to make it.
@@zedzknight when you say computer and machines, do you mean something like laser engraver?
@@suncu91, yes I do mean a Laser CNC. If you are referring to the laser etching to get the elvish writing that is understandably computer done. The box is still majority made by hand and not by a computer. The production costs associated with possibly plunge routering each set of words, or possibly hand carving with a knife and chisle would make those boxs astronomical in production costs.
My comment is to specify that a powered machine operated with human hands is still made by hand.
@@zedzknight If things count as hand made, even when computer controlled manufacturing aides are used, because "otherwise production costs would be astronomical" you could argue cars being hand made. Or just about anything else. The boxes look really nice, the manufacturing process is somewhat on the gray area of "hand made", but would still make the cut for me. Describing it as "crafting by hand", for me, puts this in the "no, not really" category. But these are terms that aren't well defined (and even less so in general use), so I can see your side as well. But the argument of "things still count as hand made if CnC is used to keep down the cost" isn't very strong, especially as here it's used for the defining characteristic of the product.
@@BoredLyron Well cars are heavily Machine made and assembled by hand in some cases. This is not the case with this style of hand made goods. To really overemphasize the idea "no machine assistance" all hand tool idea. Every box would need to be hand cut with a Back Saw or Rip-Cut Saw, Instead of a Table or Miter Saw. Then you would have to go about boring a hole inside that chunk of wood, which will require a handspun Drill and a Chisel which will take HOURS of Work, rather than just a router and possibly 3 minutes. Then you gotta sit there Hand Carving the letters, then filling and sanding by hand rather than a belt or orbital sander. The difference in production times goes from maybe a couple of Boxes every day, to a box every 3 days or more (if it was only one Craftsman). A powered tool is not the same thing as an Automated-Computer-Driven tool. This product without the Lazer carving is a Hand made, as Human Hands where the direct driving force of every one of those tools to produce the product. Whereas in a car manufacturing plant the whole frame can be welded with a human coming in contact with it.
Woah, did not know you guys were in Boston. Cool beans!
My onlt question is this: why didn't you do the laser engraving for the elvish script before sanding down the wood and oiling it? It almost seems like you're doing the same job twice when you do the exact same thing later on after filling in the engravings.
Probably to ensure a even level surface to work with. The oiling will also help prevent the powder from getting into the grain as it actually can cause the wood fibers to swell closing any micro gaps in the grain of the wood. The laser etched areas will actually absorb some of the ca glue ensuring a good bond with the wood in the etched area. At least as an amature wood worker that would be my guess why they are using that particular order of operations.
@@TheSatyrblue Makes sense. Thanks!
Yo so like, when are you going to give away a tour of your workshop?! 😁
Haha great question, this is something we want to offer. We'll keep you posted
What kind of finish are you guys using?
We use a polyurethane sealer on the inside and a beeswax Linseed oil mixture on the outside. :)
What is that inlay process called? With the dust and chemical
Inlay using metal powders, and CA glue.
Do I play DnD?... No...
Do I play any kind of tabletop game?... no...
Did I come here anyway to watch Johnny's handsome mug?...Yes :D
damn it why did i miss out on Elvish goods x_x
Is it bad that I really want elf chanting from lord of the rings as the sound scape for this video?
beautiful dice box's
What's the machine being used at the beginning?
I Think it's just a router set on it's side with a bar to guide lateral movement and another to allow for depth. This let's the shavings fall out instead of having to blow them out or move the piece between depths.
Looks good... eccept for one Thing: That Logo at the Hoodie :-/
What kind of a surface coating is on that table ? 03:17
I was curious about that too. Looks almost like truck bed liner. I'm also wondering if that was set up as a downdraft table somehow.
@@DelawareRick Good idea about the down draft
@@DelawareRick It is a downdraft table. and not exactly sure what the exact surface coating is made from. It's almost like a really tough and durable rubber
What is the name of the very first machine he uses?
I also would like to know. Not sure if a custom routing rig or a commercial grade tool. I wanna make one! 🤓 🎲
Edit, was told it was a slot mortiser
sadly i bet you'd think a dwarvish vault set would be made of metal...
Stone
What kind of magnets are those @ 1:17
They’re rare earth magnets find ones like them at this website. www.amazingmagnets.com/sf-countersink-disc-magnets.aspx
You probably know this already but just in case it slipped your mind if you want to use them in the same way they do you’ll need a couple sets with opposite poles.👍🏻
@@drewbarber522 Hey Pablo, what Drew said
So it does indeed look like the eBay seller I purchased from fucked me - I only received one polarity lol. So back to problem solving - I think to make use of these, I'll have to affix the magnet to one side, and use a finishing washer as the other receiving side. Won't be the strongest bond but it's more for holding cabinet door gently closed than to seal a case like this.
I would love to get one but due to the death of my husband, it just isn't possible at the moment.
Thumbs up for the patriots hoodie
"hand made" *wurrrrrr*
I’m sorry.... I love the woodwork and all, but true D&D nerds need to have a dice cup that is part of a belt & holster for the dice, so that (s)he may “quick draw” the dice and roll at a moments notice.... seriously, a leather dice cup held in place with a couple snaps but quickly removable for the roll would be the way of a true nerd.....
stuff I cant do so pfft
I wanted to down vote it because he is wearing a Patriots hoodie... But then I remembered A.) I don't really care about football and B.) it is Wyrmwood so I ended up voting it.
So, you made some (albeit beautiful) boxes by hand and then laser engraved them. That’s a far cry from making “elvish dice boxes by hand.”
But the boxes Elvish bixes *were* made by hand, just not *hand engraved.*
Looks like a lot of machinery was used in the process... I thought "hand-made" meant using hand-tools only? Time to break out the hand plane, chisel, and hammer...
You thought incorrectly.
"Hand made" just means a person held the product and operated the machinery by hand instead of programming a robot to do it automatically.
No sound sucks. And this is no hobby. I love the shop you " WORK" in. We could All make great things if we were getting paid for it. And love all the power tools to make it by hand.... Do you know what click bait is?
Nobody said it was a hobby video, it's Wyrmwood... As has been said numerous times here, hand-crafted doesn't refer to not using power tools. It isn't crafted by robotics and machinery, it's crafted by a guy using power tools.
In addition to what Chris said, We also do our sanding entirely by hand save for a small amount of belt sanding. (Which is still considered by hand) :)
