  • Doningto Historic Festival has always been one of the events on our bucket list to complete and we this year we have done it in style 👌 Following an engine + gearbox on our super race one of a kind in UK, 1965 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, we have taken on the mission to look after a second client racing classic Alfa Romeo. Svein joined our team from Norway, coming over on the Monday before the event. As soon as he arrived with us in Notts, we started to get to know his car, a 1968 GT Junior 1300. Upon inspection, we identified that the brakes together with the clutch are way past it, so we removed the gearbox and brakes in preparation for servicing. Meanwhile, our technicians were preparing the Spider for racing, we left it all until very late on Thursday but in typical fashion we got there just in time. All tasks were completed on the GT Junior also in time together with some further improvements like getting the wipers and cooling as they should.
Our good weekend started to unfold on the Friday where we were booked in for a track day to put some miles on the cars with the idea to iron out any potential issues before the race days. And so we did, the Spider suffered a strange electrical problem and it actually stopped on track after only 2 laps, it was diagnosed in the pits as a condenser failure which was easily replaced. The GT Junior run well after the slow start bedding in the new brakes.
On Saturday it was Svein racing in the Historic Touring Cars 50 minutes race and he did extremly well finishing P1 in class. All our hard work during the week has paid off, the car crossing the line and taking the chequered flag, one very happy client!
Sunday started also with Svein behind the wheel of the now Alficina prepared GT Junior, qualifying for the HRDC Gerry Marshall Trophy following by Ciprian qualifying for the HRDC Classic Alfa Challenge. Both drivers had a good time on track, free of technical problems, with more to come in the race itself. In a race with much faster cars on the grid, Svein's mission became one to complete the race without any hope for a top finish, bring it home! So he dully delivered, after a well timed pitstop that brought him back in contention for position, Svein finished P5 in class concluding a fantastic racing weekend for the Norwegian high flyer! Ciprian has a interesting race, after a good start recovering a few places, he found himself in a little scrap for position with the white Turner. Safety car came after a very unfortunate incident on the pit straight and following Ciprian managed to overtake a few more cars on track and come home with a well deserved P2 in class.
With both cars and drivers racing at Donington for the very first time, all we wanted was a straight forward weekend, no dramas and good time with great HRDC camaraderie. Easily delivered by the Alficina crew. The extensive preparation before set the basis of some solid results.
