KoopaTrooper 17 that myth has been disproved. Wild birds never become completely dependent on humans for food. Even if you give them all the food they could possibly want they always feed from lots of different places, because if one of their feeding places dissapears they can rely on the others. Even if they didn't, birds are incredibly adaptable creatures who will always find another source.
The peregrine falcon is a dialect bird that can see there prey from 10,000 feet. like the Eagle and the falcon can not see directly in the sun like the Eagle can .
Animal Planet very cool...sounds like I will need to head to the offices and do a follow up episode on your falcons ;) Thanks for watching and sharing!
I was at the dog park the other day with my girlfriend and a falcon dive bombed about 10 feet above our heads to catch a mouse about 20 feet away from us. it was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen, it was as loud as a rocket soaring over our heads, ill never forget the sound. But it was going so fast that we couldn't even see it until it had picked up the mouse and started flying away! Great video!!
Fast birds do make a very intimidating sound, I watched a group of swallows ride the wind over a large hill (or small mountain depending) I could hear them before I ever saw them. I looked up the hill watched them fly over head and it sounded like a voly of arrows. They were riding the wind so well that they weren't even flapping their wings, they looked like little jets. Must've been going over 100 mph. Very cool.
BananacanGaming a quick Google search reveals that several species have been clocked at over 100 mph, the spine tailed swift from India is a prime example. So no the falcon is not the only bird that goes over 100 mph... Stupid. The spine tailed swift in rare cases has been clocked at a wopping 175 mph lol
+Brave Wilderness Me and my family found a Possum and called him devincii a few weeks later he was gone we found out his bro/sis/mom/dad had been killed by are dogs but he luckily escaped
Falcons are some of my favorite raptors, I used to go hiking a lot, one of the falcons learned that I stir up lots of lizards and mice while I blunder around on the trail. It became ritual for him to follow me and catch breakfast. I never saw what he was catching but would see him dive down about 50 feet from me. When I would get to a real road I would put on Rollerblades and ride down the hill, the falcon seemed to enjoy this because he would race me into town... He always did win the race. I've also seen a bald eagle pull a 3 foot fish out of the Colombia river, it was unreal. I heard the splash and looked over to see a bald in the river struggling to get out, at first I thought it had crashed and I was mortified to see it in trouble. But then its splashing and flapping around (not very graceful) got him back into the air, and as he rose out of the water I noticed the huge fish in it's talons. I was impressed but not surprised it could carry it (eagles can carry 3 times their own weight) but the fact that it could take off out of water like that was insane! I've also seen a bald eagle snatch a duck off the river too. That was very graceful.
***** thnx! Yes its one of my favorite stories, all my friends have heard it too many times lol. I should clarify it wasn't a peregrine though. It was a local bread I don't remember the exact name. They are fairly common around hear, every time one lands in a tree or bush all the smaller birds chirp like crazy. Its kinda funny to see, I usually spot them because of the other birds reaction to them. They are smaller than other raptors in this area and usually go unnoticed do to the variety of larger non raptor birds around hear. But once you've bonded with one, you start to notice them everywhere.
if it wasnt a peregrine, it was probably a kestrel, witch is a small species of falcon that likes to eat large locusts, mice, and lizards, and it can surprisingly hover in one position like a helicopter
Imagine how much that would suck, being the fastest thing ever but not being able to move, captive, losing all that potential, all of what could have been...
Organisms change in order to adapt to it's environment. Developing strategies to hide from predators and attack prey much better than before. It's all about survival of the fittest. Though it takes a really long time for an organism to develop a gene which determines it's trait and how it will survive. Those who survive are able to reproduce more of it's kind. I learned this in 7th grade.
"being an ambassador for her species" I like that idea very much. Like all other animals in captivity, fortunaltely this leads us to appreciate their cousins in the wilde more, and more passionate nature preservation :)
Snakehead4 Nah. The osprey’s eyes are so powerful it can see animals that are fully camouflaged. And underwater. And from about 5 miles in the air. No one knows their upper eyesight limit because the osprey would probably take out their eyes.
Nice Coyote. Never seen a Peregrine Falcon before. They look like pretty amazing animals. I just have one question. What days of the week are you posting the new series of Dragon Tales?
Alex SciChannel glad you got to see one on BT! Dragon Tails will be released on Tuesday's and sometimes Thursdays beginning in late May... it will air until Breaking Trail season 2 releases in the fall.
I find it so symbolic how these falcons are blind folded because of how powerful they are but the moment in which they are released it's game over for the pray. Such a majestic pigeon.
Chatto0402 actually the peregrine is only the fastest in a stoop. Most animals, including humans, can go real fast when hurtling towards the ground from a great height. When it comes to actual fast flying, the humble little Swift is by far the fastest.

Shake your right
I live next to a nest of 3 Peregrine Falcons, I visit them everyday and feed them. They're pretty friendly towards me and my dad. C:
SimplyHowell hope they don't depend on you for food because they could start to just depend on you but that's still awesome tho
KoopaTrooper 17 I don't feed them a lot. Only a tiny snack sometimes.
KoopaTrooper 17 that myth has been disproved. Wild birds never become completely dependent on humans for food. best comm thx so much that means I can feed cutties if I found some ♥
I'mGay You shouldn't try to feed them, that's called imprinting. It takes some explaining but it's not good for the environment and their population.
A real life, literal, falcon punch. Congratulations earth, you have cultivated an environment, where birds can punch other birds for food.
