    Tesla going to have a ChatGPT moment this year. I'm seeing it. FSD 12 improvements are insane, and it's only going to get better this year. More data, more drivers, not compute constrained... which by the way is insane considering how much video data they get. You said in a video something like 260gb a week from a single vehicle. If you say the cars average closer to 100gb per week, that would be 300 petabytes, per week of video... even if I am off by a factor of 10x, that's 30 petabytes per week of video. That's a shitload

    Consider FSD take up on monthly as the start of a slow production ramp. As user grow and report (and FSD improves further) so the ramp in take up will start.
    Initial numbers high single digits, then it will drop as early adopters slow down, but in time the concerns and acceptability threshold will change and a ramp could be quick. Its simple. Press screen to have, credit card all lined up, download, train, go for it.

    Tesla could offer 3 free trial days per month for Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability over the course of a year. This strategy would leverage people's natural inclination to take advantage of free offers while exposing more customers to the continuously improving FSD software. As users experience the advantages and convenience of FSD first-hand through these trial periods, it may encourage them to eventually purchase or subscribe to the feature. From Tesla's perspective, providing temporary FSD access would have minimal costs since the software is already developed. Yet, it could serve as an effective promotion tactic by keeping FSD's benefits top-of-mind for customers. This free trial approach allows Tesla to showcase FSD's capabilities consistently, potentially driving more adoption of the technology over time.

    I wonder if they will allow you to enable it at a later date just for like a month. I could see myself paying for some help going on longer trips that would be a fun time to turn it on for a bit but I still think that a continuous $200 charge is a bit high for how little I personally drive.

    I agree with SMR and the take rate won’t increase that much. An individual needs a use case for fsd. I speak from experience. I bought fsd in 2021. I have a small commute. At this point fsd to me a a really cool tech but even v12 is not needed (not for the cost anyway) and sometimes more of a nuisance. Yes if it could drop me off and park itself and not drive awkwardly, then it would be huge. Just not there yet with v12.

    • @CiaranMcHale
      @CiaranMcHale Месяц назад +1

      You wrote, "An individual needs a use case for fsd". Some do. However, there will also be some "searching for a get-rich-quick opportunity" individuals who might think, "FSD beta is almost ready to be finalized, so I should buy it for $12,000 now before the price shoots up when it is finalized, and then make money by enrolling my car in a robotaxi service."
      Personally, I think somebody with such an attitude should instead consider using the $12,000 to buy Tesla shares because if/when FSD is finalized, the share price is likely to shoot up dramatically, and the return-on-investment from the shares is likely to be better than that from enrolling a car in a robotaxi service.

    • @mjr7991
      @mjr7991 Месяц назад +1

      @@CiaranMcHale why do you think I bought it in 2021 😉. Although my interest was to get it before it shoots up in price, not to do a robotaxi. No I just wanted the tech. I already have a bunch of Tesla stock. The situation you describe already occurred. We already bought it. There aren’t enough of us to dramatically change the percentage (not a ton of people with $12k to burn). Hence why I agree with SMR, it’s not going to do a whole lot.

    I've demoed Tesla cars and they are nice but if the road isn't smooth they are noisy as heck in the cabin...and this was the new model 3. Sorry, but they need to do some kind of rubber matting in the car, below the carpet to dampen the road noise more. Think Dynamat. It's not a big expense and something with their engineering capabilities could be done with little to no impact on the manufacturing process.

Better give the newbies a few months to get used to the car. Otherwise, you can expect a lot of crashes due to misuse or people just being unknowledgeable about the product. It is difficult to predict what will cause the stock to increase/decrease significantly. Troy Teslike reports data on production and sales and it looks like Q1 production and sales will be low (the official numbers will probably be available on 2 April), so that might cause the stock price to decrease. Then about 3 weeks later, Tesla will announce the Q1 financial results, and if sales are low then revenue and profit are likely to be low, so again the stock price might drop. That much suggests that your prediction might be correct. However... if the one-month free trial of FSD goes well, then any income from that won't impact Q1 financial results much, if any, but Tesla might announce on the Q1 earnings call that the FSD free trial has dramatically increased the FSD take-up rate, and this might cause the stock price to increase. Likewise, the media might run stories about the FSD free trial, and renewed claims about "FSD is expected to be finalized this year" might cause the stock price to increase.
      In summary, it is difficult/impossible to time the market reliably. The old saying, "Time in the market is more reliable than trying to time the market" is worth considering, that is, buy whenever you can afford to do so (without trying to time the market) and plan to hold onto the shares for, say, a decade or more.

      Joking aside, I agree that reliability has to improve significantly before people can trust it to be a level 4/5 autonomous driving system. However, some people seem willing to buy FSD beta as a level 2 ADAS and the recent improvements in FSD beta's abilities makes that more and more attractive (even if $12,000 seems like a steep price for level 2 ADAS). And don't forget that are some affluent people who would like to have the product as a status symbol, in the same way that some people choose to buy a top-of-the-range smart phone rather than a cheaper one, or some people who don't need a pickup truck but have decided to buy a Cybertruck because it is a shiny new gadget.

      @@bobbybishop5662 Absolutely, older folks are slow to adopt new technology.
      But they won’t be slow to reclaim their 5+ decade ability to get around the world with needing help from others.

    By far the best reviewer at Electrek was MikeyG. He did an insightful and entertaining (and a bit philosophical) RUclips video every day. He was pretty much the only one of the Electrek crew who was fair to Tesla and also made a couple veiled comments that it seems Fred didn't like. So MikeyG is gone and the replacement reads Fred's scripts. :-(
    Seems He's been sent to the Gulag. Free MikeyG!

    I'd be willing to bet that Tesla is in close communication with NHTSA regarding safety thresholds and hypothetical level 3/4 autonomy for FSD. And I also bet that Elon is watching all the FSD data, calculating when those thresholds will most likely be met, and making business decisions accordingly. Things are gonna get weird in the next couple of years.

    There's an entire segment of soccer moms who, given the chance, will use FSD as an opportunity to talk on the phone, which will become a new liability for drivers! I hope that's not the case.

    I need to see something like "Buy FSD for $7,000 if you purchase it during your free trial"

      that is one option, I would think you have to weigh it against the take rate at 12k, before they release non-beta for 15k or more. One can always buy a 30 day sub for 199

    The price for FSD is too high both as a buy and as a subscription.
    I dont think any trial period length will get many to use FSD daily.
    Maybe some will subscribe for single months before going on long road trips.

    Call me cynical if you like, but I wonder if this free trial is an attempt to sweeten the bitter pill that will be Tesla's quarterly delivery numbers on Tuesday.

      That would be mighty dangerous gamble because they're exposing one of their most important products to scrutiny and abuse. It also DEMONSTRATES the validity of a new revenue stream. Let's see what shenanigans Dan Odoul's tries to pull.
