    There is a *one of the kind* pleasure to listen to Barock repertoires in original instrument, much to my delight... A clavichord.

      Once you play this music on clavichord or harpsichord, you don't want to go back to the piano with it :-)

      @@erick-gd7wo when playing (or just listening as you say) this kind of music on clavichord (or harpsichord) many things become 'clear' and the contact with the instrument associated with the sound it produces, gives a lot of hints on the various possibilities of interpretation, articulation etc.. it is possible to play it very well on the piano as well, it just has a different flavour.. it is already different enough between harpsichord and clavichord!!

    Fantastic playing, and so good to hear a revival clavichord sounding so good.
    I have a Goble clavichord that I really love. It is much quieter than my bigger Hubert copy, which is ideal when I’m playing late at night, as I have a neighbour upstairs. Revival instruments get a bad press, but pick the right one and you can have a really nice instrument.
    You are inspiring me to buy some Buxtehude!

    • @theclavierist

      Hey Chris! Thank you for the nice words! I believe that even clavichords suffer from humans' habit of labeling things, often without rationality.
      I like the sound of your Hubert copy and your spinet! A few years ago I saw the same spinet for sale (I think it was..) and even spoke to the previous owner on the phone (near Gloucester right?) but never got round to see it.

    • @chrissansum

      @The Clavierist Hi - thanks. I think the owner might have been near Gloucester but it was stored in the workshop of a maker near London. I have been meaning to do a recording of the Goble clavichord at some point - it would be good to help show how good the sound of some of these instruments can be. I think they suffer a bit because they are usually badly recorded so they sound poor, even though some of them have a really nice sound when you hear them in person. Equal rights for revival instruments!

    Man kann das Clavichord bei etwas Platz gut im Schlafzimmer unterbringen. Ein Präludium oder Choral vor dem Schlafengehen oder nach dem Aufwachen am Morgen zu spielen - das Instrument ist nicht sehr laut - trägt bei zu einem ausgeglichenen Gemütszustand.

    Lovely instrument. Who built it and what is it a copy of?

    • @theclavierist
      @theclavierist  3 года назад +8

      It was built in 1971-72 at the factory of Arnold Dolmetsch. He was was not alive any more at that time but I believe that his son, who took over the business, would not have changed the design, which was Dolmetsch's own design. Although not accurately 'historical', I can say from reliable sources that Arnold was not far away from it at all.
