Thanks for the post. I have the same problem with my Surface Pro 3 type cover as well. Since it seems to have something to do with the battery, I looked at the Battery section of the Device Manager. After I selected View -> Show hidden devices, I found an entry called "Unknown device." It says the device is not connected. The hardware IDs are ACPI\VEN_PNP&DEV_0C0A, ACPI\PNP0C0A, *PNP0C0A. The Events tab has numerous entries with the description "Device install requested." I don't know for sure, but the timestamps seem to coincide with times I have booted the tablet and they begin about the same time that I started having problems with the type cover. The information sections says "Device ACPI\PNP0C0A\1 requires further installation. By any chance, does your tablet have a similar Unknown device? Do you think this could be related to the type cover problem?

I just checked the Battery section of the device manager and didn't see any unknown devices. Does your type cover work when it's completely flat and you leave it off overnight? Mine doesn't seem to detect it or turn on the keyboard but then if I shut it down and then turn it back on it doesn't work.

Sorry, I'm still working on it. I left the tablet on overnight and when I turned it on the next day (after connecting the power cord) the type cover still didn't work. From your question I see that it's important to have a completely dead battery (and I see now that you make this clear in the video). I think my screen was still showing a battery with a bar, so I'm giving it another try.

@@randallholmes4282 yes leave the laptop on and make sure you don't have the windows setting to go to power saver otherwise there will be still some battery left.

@@skopioeye Can't seem to get beyond the battery symbol showing a bar. It's set never to go to sleep and never to turn off the display when unplugged. In the morning the screen was blank, but pressing the power button brought up the battery symbol for a second or two. This has continued for at least 24 hours. I have a feeling that the tablet reserves just enough juice in the battery to flash the battery symbol for quite some time. Did you do anything special to get your battery to drain completely?

I have the exact same problem, i tried so many different things and the only thing that works is to do full reset , this will take some time and ofc you have to reinstall your programs. Its terrible but i dont think theres a good fix. Well actually theres 2 good fix: 1 is to use an usb or Bluetooth keyboard instead, 2 is to buy anything else but surface pro because frankly they are all terrible

I have tried a full reset and also recovery via USB and still the same problem and yes using an external keyboard will work but it's a hassle to carry around. Thanks for the info. Thanks and hope this video helped. If you can like the video and subscribe to the channel that would be greatly appreciated.

@nhatminhhoang4541 There technically no other fix besides replacing the motherboard which is not worth it unless it's still covered under warranty.

that's unfortunate. Did draining the battery overnight temporarily fix the issue?

In my case, even after emptying out the battery, the keyboard is still dead.
