Whoah...mentioning bluegills yrs ago went fishing in Rough River Lake caught around 100 blue gills [using wax worms/meal worms] crossed Leitchfield to Nolin Lake caught limit # of rainbow trout...yeey ..P.S. I cooked some of the blue gills w/ heads[ but scoped out the gills & intestines]..into boiling vinegar w/ sliced onions /garlic/ginger/ napa cabbage as "paksiw"..healthy food !!
As someone who also has celiacs and has an air fryer this video is awesome. I never ate much fish but after seeing this I will definitely try to eat some more. Also is helpful that there are sunfish everywhere around where I live. Lastly thanks for trying the gluten free stuff. Most people just assume that it isn't as good so they don't try it.
My motivation to do a panfish video now: 100%. Awesome content as always Rob. Informative and entertaining. Thanks for all you do! And I agree with End_The_Suffering's comment: Come to Idaho!!!
I love fishing for pan fish! When trout slow down I take the fly rod out with some smaller poppers and rip top water for pannies! Catch some bass as well! Another great video!!!
I typically hit my local AZ lakes around 3am or so for bass / striper fishing, but when that bite slows down I switch over to panfishing... which is virtually all bluegill around here. Truth is I often have MORE fun panfishing than bass fishing. You called it perfectly when you described them as "scrappy," and there's nothing more exciting than hookin' into a 3 lb bass on an ultralight rig with 2 lb test. Caught a 4 1/2 lb striper that way last time I was out :) The trick I've found for bigger bluegill is to fish deeper *IF* you can get underneath the little ones before they pick it up. If I see 3-5 inchers up shallow, I know there are probably at least a few 5-7 inchers or bigger down deeper. A lot of times the bigger ones aren't so much longer as they are just bigger around and broader across the body and shoulders... DEE-LISH filets. Thanks for the breaded / air frying tip. We eat healthy and don't like to deep dry so we've been broiling our filets, but the air fryer looks like an excellent alternative.
This spring I was fishing for white bass using a 1 1/2 inch twister and hooked a 40+ inch muskie. I lost it but it was fun to fight it on an ultra-light.
I was a subscriber on mikes channel a couple years ago.and it disappeared off of my list. Thought he stopped YouTubing. Really enjoyed his Chanel. Looks like I have a lot to catch-up on. Sorry Mike. Hope all has been well
Don't laugh at the wasp grubs for bream/bluegill bait. I robbed every wasp nest I could get as a kid. Keep them in the refrigerator when not in use. The wasp grubs are really durable on the hook and give off. A little bit of oil that seems to really attract bluegill. Only downside is the wasps are usually aggressive and really get active when you tear down a nest. Keep the paper bag inspected and shake out any that have hatched while they are still cold.
Oh and when we eat a mess of the bream I fillet them and debone their fillets and that’s what most of the kids eat while I fry the bones with tail still attached, crispy fish chip, and I pull all the meat off the bones and gorge myself. The best eating on the whole bream is the throats, that bright orange patch on a lot of bluegills. Fry that piece up on the bone and pull those chunks of meat off and man oh man. I do use the scraps and heads for trapping bait during trapping season as well. I don’t throw any part of any fish away ever. I use every part of the fish either for fishing bait, trapping bait or fertilizer in the garden which is where all the guys from every fish goes. The folks around me dump their fish scraps at my place as well then they wonder why my garden always looks so much better than theirs. Lol. Good eats buddy but I do urge you to scale and eat the throats of those tasty little bream.
You said 49 states that you can drive through. Which of course the 49th isn't Hawaii, so it'll be Alaska. When means you'd have to drive into Canada. Weren't you barred from Canada a couple of years back because you forgot you had ammunition in your vehicle at a port of entry?
I just moved to Hartford Michigan and I had the BEST summer taking my 5 year old daughter fishing all summer.
Best. Summer. Ever.
Starting em young! Love it
I like seeing the variety of fish thats caught throughout the country. Great vid!
Fishing in Michigan is the best, best part of living here

I’m this case, the GF option tastes better IMO. :)

Dude, you can never go wrong with Bluegill, crappie, or walleye! Sooo good!
Try a pink power bait trout worm, with a simple hook and sinker. Works every time!

Video turned out great, man!
I'm in White Lake Michigan in Oakland County..surrounded by lakes
Such a fun place to fish!
That’s where we were and where I fish 90% of the time too:)
This spring I was fishing for white bass using a 1 1/2 inch twister and hooked a 40+ inch muskie. I lost it but it was fun to fight it on an ultra-light.
Hey Robert that was great, I learned a lot and I want to eat.🙂

In the South, we call snapping turtles like "cooters". And, the saying goes, they don't let up till lightning strikes of they bite you.
back when I was a kid I had banana flavored purple mister twisters and would slam the gills and suns and rock bass all day long.
Niiiiice can’t go wrong w good ol mister twister
Nice video!
Thanks!
I just found your channel and it’s awesome
Dude! I got a cooler full of spadefish. We just fried 10 like bream for dinner. It was EPIC!!!
Awesome video the one you said was a pumpkin seed is actually a longear sunfish. They are beautiful though
That’s a pumpkin seed on the thumbnail
Man, scale em and fry em whole, thats the best way to eat bluegill!
Those first ones were red breast sunfish. You need to come back to Kentucky. I will put you on some filleting size panfish. Talking 1-2 pounders.
Are you kidding me, with us it's 1 Down, 200 hundred to go, we feast on all these fish, great times!
Great video robert
I want to try out fishing. How would you put out a bluegill or you you just leave them out of the water?
I hope when you're done, you can get out to Hawaii and fish there
"Sometimes you want a quick snack instead of a meal" - Mike's smallmouth

Try corn flakes crumbs
Do you know the name of this lake?
Now that turtle looked like he was prime for harvest.

Where’s the old Robert field fishing for sharks and crap and alligator gar
a trick i use with sunfish is: if they aren't biting, theyre probably not there.
I only own fish !!!!
4 miles? 😂 Come to Florida.
