      Exactly, I have diagnosed ADHD, which has many similar symptoms with autism. People will always jump to autism, especially nowadays.. you'd be surprised how many people say that they are autistic jus because they exhibit 'autistic traits' (I've seen people claim to be autistic because they really like a tv show, or they're passionate about their hobbies, or they feel anxious, or they can't focus) which are very normal, and some are traits of autism, but also traits of so many other illnesses and disorders. I can't wait for all the people who claim to be autistic just because they saw a video on tik tok and did a quick google search to grow up. I hope they feel ashamed at how they made terms like autism, anxiety, depression, mental illness, etc.. seem watered down.

    • @Glacierlune
      @Glacierlune 8 месяцев назад

      @@thiskindasucks3536 there is some evidence that indicates there isn't any overlap with ADHD and autism. If you have any of these "over lapping" symptoms you just have both. But it's hard to say for sure with our current level of technology. It could be argued that some people with ADHD that have autistic traits are sub clinical for autism and it doesn't really need to be addressed clinically.

      I have this "paranoia" when my s.o is shopping with me/us because he has tattoos all over his arms and legs. you can clearly tell these tattoos are from prison. good work,but even good work you can tell prison vs street work.
      we took the kids shoe and backpack shopping for school the other day and when we walked in they had someone go to the front of the store until we went to the register. one of the other workers was gliding up and down the aisles we went to. we went to the other side of the store and he done it there too. I've gotten tired of feeling paranoid and I test them now to "confirm" a couple days later I return with my oldest because he wasn't with us when we took the other two and I made a day out of just him and I. same 2 of 3 workers and they didn't do the following us and they didn't have anyone stand at the front of the store that time.

      I think what you don't understand is that there is an intuitive function of the brain that is an extremely excellent self diagnosis tool.
      When people hear about the experiences of people with certain conditions they experience familiarity with their own experiences. The more expensive the familiarity the more likely self diagnosis is accurate.
      You might be confusing that as "little reserch" because you're expecting more clinical style research. Which quire a few people actually do on top of the research into people's experiences.
      I will agree that looking up the technical information and reading the diagnosis criteria in the DSM 5 would be very helpful.
      Tho in some cases it's so painfully obvious. I had an ex that was clearly paranoid schizophrenic. Having halicinarions and his step mom was communicating to him in code from almost every piece of writing he looked at. Am I a clinician? No, is his symptoms profound enough to be obvious to any laymen with a basic knowledge on the subject? Yes. I was a little more careful cause the one thing I didn't know is if those symptoms could also be from another condition.

    • @Glacierlune
      @Glacierlune 8 месяцев назад +8

      @@sernecha0s26 I will say of course not all self-diagnosis is accurate but most people have to self-diagnose in order to seek help for a clinical diagnosis That's just how things work you are not going to go randomly to a therapist that diagnoses the thing you have unless you have a suspicion of having it
      Maybe you're talking about how some people aren't very respectful of the caveat "maybe I have x I should confirm" or probably cuz sometimes we don't know exactly which condition it is but there may be something in that range

I experience such a wide range of similar things so all psychosis content is always helpful and relatable. And I was like "Oh well yeah actually, I was falsely accused once as a teenager and it was really scary and upsetting. " She said "Sounds like that's a pretty logical response then." It made me feel so much better. I still get nervous about it sometimes but understanding WHY I get nervous has helped me a lot. I can't believe it never occurred to me that it was a trauma thing.

    Thanks!!! I see similar things said as autism traits when it's really just stuff a lot of people experience. Sometimes you can refuge yourself in a diagnosis and use that as justification for not working on yourself "because that's just the way you are" and it can be really damaging!

    As someone with ADHD diagnosed by a doctor, I agree. People are going onto the internet and diagnosing themselves when they really should see a professional

    Definitely not the best to self diagnose off of a tiktok, but after seeing a million "adhd people be like" videos, I ended up bring it up in therapy and my therapist said she had suspected that I had adhd and we talked about why. she is the one who suggested I get screened, and I was I bit in denial at first. But after getting medicated, and starting to have a deeper understanding of how to manage my symptoms, I was like "wow how did I NOT know I had adhd? it explains so much!". I know that won't be everyone's expirence, but I am glad people have a platform to share information.

    Thank you for the disclaimer. I don’t have schizophrenia. I do get delusions and paranoia sometimes. The masses just get stuck on one disorder and use it as a label for symptoms that can be part of other diagnoses.

    Lmao, yes call out the self diognosers to seek actual instead of just using online videos 😤 cause I've done this tyoe of thing before on a smaller scale, it's SO easy to take information, see it applies to you, and not get the PROPPER correct information/diagnosis

      No the information is just more available and research is ahead of what doctors know.
      Research is even showing that autism self diagnosis is often more accurate than clinical diagnosis.

    • @Glacierlune
      @Glacierlune 8 месяцев назад

      Will the doctors accuracy catch up to self diagnosis accuracy? Probably. But often the education standards drag about 10 years behind the research.

      People seem to forget that online research is valid. Most of it is put up there by doctors/mental health professionals. So many people cant afford diagnosis from psychologists etc. Also you have the stigma once officially diagnosed. I'm in the midst of this and its scary AF. Utube doctors are still doctors people.

My behaviour is silent and quiet type . I do not often smile or show emotions it had ruined me . I always felt people talking about me or laughing at me . Due to stress and sleep deprivation my illness got triggered and it finally revealed its full form. Due to this ,i had to take a drop year and now am in well health

    I think this is true of some people, let's just make sure we don't demonize all self-diagnosing as some people don't have access to doctors readily and even if they did sometimes they could be misdiagnosed or told that their concerns are not valid because they present symptoms differently than what is expected (mainly POC and Fems).
    What's important is how that person experiences life and possible symptoms in relation to having whatever disorder/disability vs not having it.
    But yes, this is still very valid for the cases in which someone simply wants to feel like they fit in whatever mental health issue is trending that week. Great video❤

    I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and when I check my phone, because I think it's vibrating. A few minutes later a message comes through. I know for a fact. I feel it when it's written. If none comes through I think about who is thinking of me and reach out to them it often comes true they were thinking of me..

    I do so much of these things. The ouch is more a surprise reaction. I also have my phone muted for some reason most of the time. I will have conversations and arguments with myself, even in public. I window shop while in a store. I'll pick stuff up, walk around with it for a while, find something else I like better, go and put the first thing back, then decide I don't need the second thing, on the way to putting that back I find something I need and grab up a impulse thing, put the second thing back and go on to find more things to repeat that with without realizing I am now being followed by at least 2 employees who suspect me for shoplifting. I have ADHD+ mild autism, DID, long and short term memory issues from seizures, a TBI (the cause of the seizures), and Frontal Parietal Polymicrogyria which just makes everything else more fun. In order of discovery.
    I could easily be diagnosed as Schizophrenic, if my doctors did not know where each of the above problems I have come from and about when they started. As all of the above also is pretty permanent with me, since if I did not have the TBI and the Polymicrogyria, I could get treatments and therapy for the lot.

    im just gonna add a disclaimer that self-diagnosing from a Single Video is not something you should do, but self-diagnosing after doing serious research to back up your theory is often the only option available to people. people may not be able to get a professional diagnosis for financial or safety reasons. i have a friend who self-dxed with adhd but can't pursue a professional diagnosis because it would mean they couldn't become a teacher. im professionally diagnosed as autistic but this came after being self-diagnosed for 4 years and my gp deciding i probably wasn't autistic and not referring me for half a year based on a single meeting. and because of said diagnosis, i Can't Move to New Zealand. for some reason. so yeah pursuing a professional diagnosis is an incredibly personal decision and someone who has done years of research on their specific conditions is often more knowledgeable on their own mind than a doctor who needs to know about hundreds of diagnoses and so does not have nearly enough time to have encyclopedic knowledge of them all. ill get off the soapbox now😅

    I realize this but I researching schizotypal personality disorder (from multiple credible sources) feels like reading the code with which I am programmed. I felt understood, understood by myself. I know it’s still weird but now I am somewhat confident that I know why I am the way the way I am, why I don’t fit in. I’m willing to accept that I don’t have it if diagnosed in a proper medical facility, but I don’t care very much to do so because it doesn’t bother me that I am like this. I am ok with only being 75% sure this label fits me. And there is a difference between actual symptoms and lying about random things everyone does like in this video. I know ur just doing it to prove a point but like being misdiagnosed for the wrong symptoms os different than confusing some actual symptoms of an illness with similar or overlapping symptoms present in other mental illnesses
