When I was a Special Education teacher a few years ago, I had two young adult students who were diagnosed schizophrenic. They were at the same time both my most challenging students and my favorite students. Their daily battle just to get through an 8 hour day was commendable. Although their mental health rarely allowed them to practice cooperative behaviors, it also created in them great appreciation for the rare incidents of positive cooperative interactions.

It's hard to explain, but imagine that you're in your home, the floors you step on feel real, it smells like your home, your family is there, only that in reality you're actually in the streets. It's a very dangerous and scary thing to go through. I wish your sister and you well 💜

In the beginning God created man for us to be an expression of His will and nature, but in our free will we fell in sin, immediately after the fall of sin we see Gods love revealed when He prophecies about the restoration of the relationship between God an man when He says: «The seed of the woman will crush the head of the snake» , and this is a prophecy about the virgin birth of Jesus and how Jesus will come and put and end to the devil and sin and ultimately the enmity between God and man for those who receives Jesus as their savior, this is fulfilled in the the Bible verse John 3,16 : «For so did God love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life»
So if you seek Jesus you will find Him, and if you receive Him as your savior and turn from sin you will be saved !
«For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations»
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]

Well my girlfriend lives with her mother who is a paranoid schizophrenic.... they were getting along pretty good as long as her mom was staying with her medication..... then she got her mom a caretaker so she could finish going to college.... and that was the beginning of their horrible problems : the caretaker was young and bought some weed over for her to smoke.... the mother went off her meds and started selling her stash of whatever drugs she had.... I don't know if that was sleeping pills , anti-anxiety pills or what but she started selling them to buy more weed.... she stopped eating all the healthy food in the refrigerator and had the caretaker buying her cupcakes , cookies all kinds of junk food and crap ..... her mom gained back a hundred pounds that they had worked so hard for her to lose .
Anyway her mom got worse and worse started acting like a kid herself getting nasty and vicious.... well there's a lot more to it and tonight she had to hide in the bathroom to get away from her mom who was really scaring her .
I tried to tell her number of times over the years to try to get her on large doses of niacin also called B3 .
Her mom only just started taking her meds again recently and is not on all of them .
She just told me she's probably going to have to have her 302d tonight..... I feel so bad for both of them .
Her mom kept thinking someone was hiding in the apartment and has even had the cops there several times in the past few days looking through the closets and what not.... she swears there's somebody in the cell phone giving her daughter commands and she's not referring to Google or RUclips but she thinks there's actually an entity in the phone like a demon .. just very scary stuff .

John Smith The worst part is the lack of services and space for the mentally ill to go. There is not enough funding for clinics. specialists, supportive housing etc. Letting people with severe mental health issues fend for themselves. Doesn't help that the medications alone are ridiculously priced. Many unable to afford them. The system needs to change. I forgot the percentage but many inmates have mental health disorders. They certainly are not getting the treatment that need there.
It's infuriating. I struggle with depression and horrible insomnia. Went to pick up a new med of Seroquel XR to help with mood and sleep. 659.00 bucks for a month. I couldn't get it....

The best help everyone has the ability to give someone suffering, is have a conversation with them as a normal person. It's kinda ironic, just today walking to store to buy smokes (bad habit I know) I walk past a semi holiday inn style retreat for people with mental illness. As I walked by a man with fully bandaged legs and in a wheel chair calls me over, he seems ok and lucid so i go say hi. The guys been under a few days isolation due to a mental break (linked to schizophrenia) in which he started to burn himself feet up. All he wanted, was a smoke and a chat. So we chatted for near 45 mins. Intelligent, well centered man., You can tell he would only hurt himself let alone a fly when he has his mental breaks. I can tell by his reaction and the convo, that that 45 minutes made his entire day.
Just because we're not doctors can;t mean we can;t give the best medical treatment available - time, company and a smile.

    • @amelialouisa8541

ben Smith Yes! Right on point Ben. I worked at a homeless shelter in Seattle. Looked very intimidating at first. After getting to know everyone, I realized that just being called by their NAME meant something to them. Like you said to just chat and joke around meant the world to alot of them. When you're looked over or looked down on so often, being treated like a human being is golden. I met some of the best people working there. People with incredible stories and talents. Some very ill and some just down on their luck. It opened my eyes and I'm glad I had that experience. Sounds cliche but kindness can make someone's day.

Same. But in my case it was a woman. At one point it was very strange because she was talking to herself, or I should say she was talking to one of the voices, and at some point she mentioned something about me that no one in the facility would have known. Something about toothpaste. I don't remember specifically but it was very strange. Later on she was screaming and having an episode yelling " NO NO NO" and not wanting to give her address to one of the voices. This thing with her address was a reoccurring thing. As you said it must be so exhausting. They literally never get a mental break, which is already enough to drive someone insane.

I've lived with schizophrenia for 15 years and this isn't really what it's like, for the most part. The voices are usually relevant to your situation and it's usually only one at a time, but not always. When he was trying to make the boat, that's usually what it's like for me. Also, talking to other people tends to quiet the voices. Makes it easier to stay in touch with reality to talk to an actual person.

    • @arthouseragdoll

See it was completely different for me. I’d hear one voice commenting on what I was doing, another voice saying exactly what I was thinking at the time and at least 4-10 others in the background both voices I recognised that belonged to people I knew and ones I didnt recognise all talking about random shit or having their own conversations about whatever they wanted and nothing I did made it better. I found that any ambient noise or music made it worse liek my brain was turning abstract sound into voices. I almost had a heart attack the first time I turned on my hair dryer when Id started hearing voices because as soon as I did they started just yelling loud AF over the top of the sound of the hairdryer. It’s funny how it can be so different for different people.

As someone with this, I find this test both appreciated and ridiculous at the same time.
I am glad the motive is to create understanding and empathy for people with it, but at the same time the test is so off base and tame it unintentionally borders on insulting in how it presents itself.
While sufferers have it at varying degrees, speaking for myself what you really have to try to live with is far more hectic, fast paced and overlapping. And certainly not so calmly spoken to even when the test voices try to be at their most negative.
Your intentions are good, but your test doesn't come close to demonstrating what it's like.
A closer version would be try to imagine you're in a party in a packed room and people all around you are in individual conversations, so you can hear them all going at once.
Then imagine every conversation were actually statements about you and you can never leave the room and they never stop talking, some directed at you, some voices more like you're overhearing it and everywhere you go you have to try to focus and ignore them as best you can.
THAT is much closer to giving you an idea what it's like than this test.

However, even I still know what praying does, or the actual comment of saying, "I pray for the people" or "I'll keep you in my prayers". It is doing several things, the most obvious is that it lets the person/people know that you are thinking of them and that you wish them well. I'm not going to teach you anymore, so figure out the rest on your own.

The hallucinations in this video are referred to as a "running commentary" in the mental health vernacular. "Creepy" is certainly one apt descriptor! "Delusional" is the textbook name for the symptom...
Thank you for helping battle the stigma of this worldwide health problem! 😃

Liam Vertal It actually does. The number of fatalities of people with mental illness, especially when they are acting erratically or strangely like psychosis in schizophrenia and mania in bipolar disorder are rising at an extremely rapid rate. A lot of mental health providers tell you not to call the cops because fatalities can happen and do so frequently. When you dial 911 when your loved one is threatening suicide or acting unstable, you will NOT get an ambulance or actual help. You get cops who are taught to shoot to kill if they feel threatened. You're advised to get them to a hospital by any means necessary...even though that's really hard. In some places there are mental care places that can help but they aren't widespread enough. It's the sad truth.

    • @theskylar110

heather c I think you're confused about what hospitals do.. they don't form mentally ill patients, patients that get there are already sick and the hospitals treat them or at least try to. schizophrenia has a very high incidence (1% of society) and there's not much room in institutions to take in all these people. so the lucky ones can stay with family or end up on the street.. also these voices are telling them thing like: "don't trust the doctors, your medicine has poison toss it in the toilet, this nurse is lying to you, you pharmacist is with the CIA, you pills have a tracker that will lead the enemies right to you..etc" so most of them don't comply with the meds and it's no one's fault really, this disease is just a sad reality but at least the majority of them are not violent!

So if you find the humour too dark for your liking just tut to yourself and move on. Others found it mildly amusing. And others found it hilarious. The big failure for us as collective fellow community members and a supposedly society of solidarity and care for eachother and ourselves - is that someone actually have to say that. *_Donate._*_ To mental health._
Its extra god damn awful in the US, but it's an issue most other places too. Even among western societies with strong universal healthcare, mental health is severely underserved in many of those places. Often not really "catching" or facilitating help for anyone, until they're "psyciatric care material". And still, many reaching those levels of struggle, go without help, tratment and approproate care.

i lived in a homeless shelter. One woman was NOT medicated and she had schizophrenia and was truly suffering. When she was lucid and not screaming, or singing very loudly and poorly, she was really nice and good to talk to for a brief time. I wanted to help her so badly because I knew the shelter was being paid a decent amount of money for her to be there so they didn't send her to the facilities where she COULD get medicated. It's always ALL about money! I think it is disgusting that people care so little about others. They let us suffer upstairs in the hottest days of summer with no AC, AND we weren't, for some asinine reason, allowed to have fans. WTF?

The problem is that you can't accurately simulate schizophrenia. While hallucinations can be simulated, you can't possibly simulate the negative symptoms which are associated with the drastically poorer quality of life and functioning.

DH1986 By negative symptoms, I believe Tommy means things "normal" people are supposed to be doing but don't, like speaking in complete sentences, being able to feed yourself, or moving around easily rather than being catatonic.
But yeah, the negative voices suck. That is what is considered a positive symptom, however, along with other hallucinations commonly associated with schizophrenia.

the voices in your head might actually depend on how the society perceives you.. for example; if you grew up in a loving and caring home the voices in your head could be comforting, loving, guiding, etc.. but, if you grew up in a toxic environment - the voices could be very aggressive and demeaning.

I feel like everyone is watching me and I'll dart my head and eyes to catch a glimpse of the person or thing in the corner of my vision. I'm well controlled but some days are harder than others. I really hope anyone else who has schizophrenia reading this knows even though it feels like you can't beat it or that everyone is watching you or out there to hurt you that you are strong and you can do it.

I'm szaffective, too, and it made me smile a bit bitterly. Mine's more visual than auditory, but I don't know how they'd simulate that for healthy brains. It'd be funnier to see him jump over his water bottle turning to look at him or something. Voices are probably easier to understand how to learn to cope with. Plus, he probably only did it for the afternoon. You're lucky if you've gotten past voices. Meds don't work for me fully. Best fix I have so far is being able to recognise and ignore delusions. The voices would be constant and I would argue with them and I could at times see phyical bodies that identified with the voice and I could feel them touch me. I would talk constantly be fighting for my life thinking I had gained telekinetic powers and people hacked into my eyes and could see outside them and could also read my thoughts. I could hear people say things they didn't actually say and see them do things they weren't actually doing.

    • @al145
      @al145 8 лет назад +5

There's some aspects of anxiety & depression that can bring on symptoms similar to this kind of thing. I was concerned myself, but after some digging and some actual therapy... well... yeah. And this isn't even necessarily "schizophrenia" as there are different kinds. Paranoid schizophrenia is different from others, there's also other mental/emotional/personality disorders that have overlapping symptoms. Depression with psychosis is a thing. Schizotypal is a thing. Depersonalization disorder is a thing, so on and so on, but a lot of those have similar symptoms. At least now we have some better understanding of, and other people are starting to become more understanding of it. I think the stigma of "mental illness" prevents a lot of people from seeking help for it, I know full well that was a huge hurdle for my own issues. It sucks, but the fact that people are acknowledging this kind of thing now, and that other people have dealt with similar has helped me somewhat, hopefully those kinds of things help you as well.

I am also super paranoid about whether or not people are in my house or if I'm going to get murdered in my sleep. It's not the voices alone, it's the way the voices are wired right into my emotions. The urges and impulses that are attached to each voice, each word. This guy is distracted by just the voices, but this "simulator" doesn't even give you the smallest taste of what Schizophrenia is.

I understand why they try to take their own life. Imagine having to go through that constantly and people want you to keep going and force you to live in a horrible mental facility. Pure hell.

What also adds to the living hell is that you as a person need to sleep sometimes.
      The voices don't.

I have a family member who has schizoaffective disorder. I found this very disturbing to watch. It actually made my chest ache almost to the point of tears.... I have no idea why this showed up on my recommended list but I am glad it did.

I think to immerse him even further, they should have planted actors along his route that would like stare at him, and then quickly look away when he'd turn to face them.

visual hallucinations of people saying or doing weird things is also symptoms, but something that this test lacks is the actual interaction that voices have with a persons thoughts that has schizophrenia, while Mr. Cooper had audio hallucinations simulated , people with schizophrenia often feel like there thoughts are being read and exploited by the voices they hear, which is even more distracting and causes a lot of paranoia

A guy I work with has paranoid schizophrenia, and I always just thought he was kind of awkward and shy because he never speaks to anyone but I found out this is why. I just can't imagine what it's like. After I found out, I notice he talks a lot but to himself and he's always fighting with the voices. Such a horrible way to have to live when everyday tasks are challenging because you're constantly battling your mind

As a social worker, I did a training like this and it was so informative and useful.
It would be great if more trainings like this were available to the general public so there could be a broader understanding of what some mental illness can really be like.

I think it should be more available to the public so we can understand. Along with ways to help people that live with or support others that have these understood aspects of illness. Understanding Makes for a better society

Differentiation is complicated. It is often better to have music playing directly in one earbud. At least then there is a difference in audio information. It still means i can hear them, I just don't hear "everyone at once".

    • @MiceHendrickson

Nikki Here's an interesting study that was recently released.. The brains of schizophrenic patients were scanned while they were hearing voices, and it was discovered that the areas of the brain associated with audio sensitivity actually are active during this time. In other words, to the patient, they truly are hearing things that aren't there.

I'm glad this experiment exists. People tend to judge mental illness and think it can be controlled with thinking positive thoughts. They think you just are not trying hard enough.
