After following for years, I finally realized why your narrative style seems so comfortably familiar. You, sir, are the Mr Rogers of the Wilderness. No annoying music, no flashy gimmicks, just a guy doing a job and explaining what he is doing in a mellow voice that can capture our attention without shouting.

Mr. Outsider, I, as I'm sure most of us here do, have so much respect and awe at your ability, analysis, and craftsmanship. Watching you solve, master, and create is pure heaven to those of us who revere the craft! Learning from you about how to triangulate the distance needed to fell a tree left me gobsmacked! When you were taking down the old maple tree and I heard the cracking, I was just as concerned as you. “Uh-oh” was loud in my head.
When expanding and building my first house we had several diseased trees to take down.
After my dad readied one for a fall, it started make the cracking sound, plus the wind caught it. Luckily we had ropes guiding it’s fall. My neighbors were concerned until they were all down. My dad cut up the very larger diameter wood and took it home with him. I cut up all the smaller diameter wood for the next six months. We had wood for several years for our fire pit to cook meat. We are in a much warmer climate so we did not need wood to keep warm.

Nice job on that tree! Your snow cat seems to be running very well! No doubt there were some special memories in the walls of that pop-up cabin. Nice to see a glimpse of Senior Outsider.

I knew from the moment the video started that you would drop that maple exactly where you wanted to. You are, after all, a professional. Well done, my friend!! Also, I anticipate your deck design hinted at before the video's end and the plans you may have for that beautiful maple wood. A hutch, perhaps for Mrs. Outsider or a "treasure box" for your beautiful daughter to store wonderful memories in? I can only guess, but I know you will give that beautiful old tree a new life some day! God Bless you and your family and a hello prayer to Dad in Heaven. 😀😇🥰

You dropped that tree spot on, that was a nice little trick you used with the axe handle on the tree length, well done.

Always a pleasure to watch one of your videos my friend. I remember well, you & your dad building that little cabin. I cherish those memories. Look forward to the porch build, love a good porch for quietly sitting & listening to nature. Thanks for sharing

    Hey Outsider,
Glad to see you again so soon my friend.
That truly was the best fell I've seen you do on here. Textbook!
So nice to see your Dad, even for the fleeting second, Thanks, I miss Senior. Admittedly I backed up the video and watched the clip with him again, so great to see him again.
I can't imagine how every time your at the cabin, how many times you probably think of him and remember what he did to the very part you are looking at.
His spirit is definitely all over the cabin and the area. When I watch your videos, I remember videos where he was doing a particular thing at the same spot.
Miss Ya Senior, but Junior,............. he's pulling his weight for ya here, and doing a fine job of it. You raised him well sir.....raised him well.
Kind of sad to see you take the outpost cabin down. Lots of video memories of you both designing, prepping, building, staying in it,... right there. In fact the clip with Senior giving you the cup of coffee, was the only time I ever really heard his voice clearly...and he sounded exactly how I imagined he would. But, time to move on. Gone, but definitely will never be forgotten. Bless You Senior.
It's good to see you have reached that point, it's a sign that you're reaching that point where your ok. 🙂❤
Lots of Love for Yourself, Mrs. Outsider and Ms. Outsider. Hopefully they'll be around in more videos during the warmer months this year.
    Matt - Toronto, Canada

@@TheOutsiderCabin No thanks needed. You just keeping the videos coming and every once and a while throwing a l'il Senior in the mix is just fine. Of course your Girls, MRS and Ms. Outsider have to start being in more shots enjoying the cabin with you to.
I remember the first video of your's I watched. You and Senior had just finished the 2nd course and were starting to add the 3rd. That's about 4 years ago now I think. I've watched all the videos since then, plus the videos before then.
Just keep including us in your cabin life story.
      Matt 🙂🙏

Thumbs up specifically for taking care of yourself. Hard hat, ear protection, the kevlar leg & body chaps, taking breaks to warm up and to think, and also the hot chocolate. (Gotta warm the heart & soul as well as the body & mind!)

Going to South Carolina to visit my late aunt when I was young. Her house was an old rickety on stilts. She had an old wood stove. A pecan, peach, and apple tree in her yard. Thanks for envoking great memories. I can smell the pecan wood burning. You've got a new sub

So enjoy your videos and updates. The downing of that maple was just perfect - but I am sure, nerve-racking! You must have felt that the taking down of the outpost was another milestone without your dad and you will have had mixed feelings I'm sure but the optimism of the maple syrup season and then the new building season kicks in and you have us with you in expectation as mush as retrospection. Well done on continuing the work of living and working at the cabin and bringing us with you. The cabin still looks beautiful as you enjoy your domestic routines. Every blessing for you and the family.

Nice job dropping that tree. I had a 16" maple, rotted at the bottom, that twisted in the rot, and fell where I didn't want it to. Close call but no damage. Tree felling can be tricky.
