- What's up NUB NATION!! Today we scored some solid surf, full on Florida barrels at Sebastian Inlet state park here in Central Florida. The Winter Storm Riley surf forecast was a little bit under what it had claimed to be for FL, but we still found the surfing dream. More surf tomorrow I hope you guys are stoked!! Holy Sh** that was so ace!!! The smile on your face while you ran up the beach after catching that tube was priceless. We used to call pure unadulterated fun like that 'Shining'....there was a lot of Shining going on in that video. You guys were like Tasmanian Devils out on the waves, loved every moment of that. I used to have to save up my pocket money for months to buy videos like this in the 80s. Thank you Ben, you made an old surfer/skater smile like an idiot today : )

Karl Jakobsson yeah dude great concept...to be honest i wasn’t sure if It was even going to be makable so i opted with the 5’6” sorry to pick some close outs and not take another close out board to the face. Ending up making a few tho & got the one dreamer on film so stoked!!

John Egan I don't think that was a crap wave Bandit that folded up. I think that was a full-on nice 5 fin option fish. Completely ridiculous to be riding a wave Bandit in those conditions to begin with
No Slam on the wave Bandit by the way. Just think if you have overhead conditions you should ride a maximum performance giving board and not waste your time spinning out

Florida Native born and raised. Used to surf Sebastian inlet back in the day.
I am 51 now. Lived here my whole life.We used to surf there back in the late 80s. Usually the have 3 to 5 foot faces ,when storms off shore.

Ya surf the south side of Sebastian Inlets shore break on a south swell, LOL that will pretty much take home the gold for not being Epic and being a total DuscheTool cooke. Man the locals back in the day there would have never let you surf the NorthSide it was extremely territorial for the best wave there, back in the late 90s early 00s but you could always take it to Ponce Inlet were the men in the grey suits are the judge of all that nonsense and honestly is a way better break IMO also the shark bite capital of the PLANET lol.Sickens

22:45 dude was killing it. Out of all the hundreds of times I've surfed the inlet I've never seen anyone surf inside the jetty lol I've sat there and watched that wave break, but never actually surfed it, you're a mad man ben!

I grew up surfing Florida and there's literally maybe 3-5 days a winter you might need a full suit and even then that's only in the morning ! I had a springsuit that was 3mm thick and I got through entire winters without ever missing a swell or putting on a full suit ! Some times it's ok to have a little extra insulation ! To catch Florida firing is rare ! When it happens it's incredible but unlike on the west coast where groundswells can last for days on end on the east side the swell,tide,wind and seems like sun and stars all need to align to get 1 good 4 hour session in before the tide changes and the waves get worse by the minute. Believe what you want but there's waves to be had in the Gulf of Mexico that are much heavier than what is typically surfed on the east coast ! The east side rules for consistency (compared to the Gulf side) but when there is a tropical storm or hurricane on if you time the cold fronts right you can get barrelled on the Gulf side but only if you know one of the handful of spots that Barrel ! There's a couple islands between Sanibel and Sarasota that you nedd a boat to even access that fire .......mostly empty when it does ! Be careful surfing around here though because it's as sharky an area as anywhere in the e world ! Known Hammerhead breeding area and more blacktips and bull sharks sharks than mosquitos !

Grew up in WPB. Used to surf at Sebastian in 72, 73, 74. Surfed Sebastian, Spanish House, and Shark Pit. We used to camp at the state park, the one with the water slide into the lake. Good Times

If the period gets below 15 it really starts working alot of raw power last 2 days but it was freight training

The group of people i rolled with, we would call that “inside” inlet (the jetty novelty wave)
When the sand builds up more you can skimboard that wave, a long time ago.. probably a decade or so ago it used to break really fun sometimes. Glad to see someone riding it and getting excited 😝

Looks like you guys scored some fairly hollow beachbreak at Melbourne Beach. Looks like the offshore wind was a plus on the shape there.
Not being from that coast...is that spot just up the beach from Sebastian Inlet?
And is it, as I have heard (and would appear), that the wedge wave there is mostly ruined?
Anyway, good barrels, when the shape was cooperating.
Isn't Reef Road, in Palm Beach, supposed to be the spot for Nor'Easters?
Isn't there also there something like a 'Monster Hole' in the area? What kind of dredging novelty is that?

WOW, this video brings back some good and bad memories!!! @MIN 2:30 IS where you all are pointing but my attack happen on the 3 rd break out!! BOOM, i got nailed by a 6ft blk tip shark on Nov 25 1992 @ around 6:30am right when the sun was coming up!!!! There were only 12 attacks that year and I was one of them unfortunately.. My data is all in the Intl Shark Attack file which can be vied that is was an unproved attack on me!I was all over the news, not to mentioned I was skipping high school and went surfing with my buddy and his dad! Before he could even get the camcorder I has already been hit! I really had no idea what hit me and about took my right arm off when the shark was trying drag me under!! You got to remember we were in at least 200 ft of water.. In the end, I am a HUGE Shark Advocate @ www.sharks.org/. Long story short, it was not the sharks fault that he almost ripped of my arm , the shark was chumming for bait since we right in the middle of a school of bait fish that was swimming through and I was at the wrong place at the right time. The shark did some damage with over 72 stitches in my right forearm and fingers. Then the I had to have two surgeries since the shark has left some of it's baby teeth in my right hand so I had tp have them removed..
F me, man. Ive been bicycle touring all winter - just finished a 2-wk ride from New Orleans to Jax Beach... I get there and it's like 6ft. I haven't surfed since November. Im f r o t h i n g to get back home to OCMD to surf again. It was a total tease.

It was just a bunch of closeouts. Our sandbars can't hold up a swell that big. Our sandbars work a million times better on tropical storm ground swell. Big does not = Good.
I live in Cape Coral and there is nowhere nearby that I can surf in Florida, so I’m looking for the closest/best place. These waves are incredibly different from what they are at Fort Myers/Sanibel beach.
Charge pelican beach park there’s always waves about 20 minute drive from where you are
