It always takes a while for them to warm up to a big new thing. But some funny advice: sit by the wheel and show them RUclips videos of cats using the wheel. I have literally had my cat looking back and forth from the laptop screen to the wheel, connecting what she saw the RUclips cat doing to her wheel. Eventually she started going to the wheel and using it on her own without me doing any training. I also moved a favorite chair of hers near the wheel so she would sleep in the chair and by right next to the wheel all the time. I read so much about training cats to use these wheels, but in the end it was just RUclips and moving her bed nearby that did all the work.
I had a cat learn to sleep in the laundry from watching an older cat do it. We took forever putting the laundry away and piper is a professional napper. She chose this spot as her napping grounds for a few days during which a younger cat just kinda... watched. After a few days i finally saw her in the laundry basket looking judgmental.
Like all kids, they prefer playing with the box.

I cannot believe your cats have taken to the wheel at least I see one cat has definitely taken to the wheel I have four cats and I just bought the wheel and I have tried everything from feathers to treats to catnip and the list goes on but I will not give up I am going to buy some churros which is a cat treat in a squeezable tube next

This video helped me out a lot and I have four cats and just bought the wheel and they are outsmarting me even more treats but supposedly it takes up to a year to train them to use this thing
i have had this for a few years now, and my female cat took to it in days, running full gallop. Years later the boys just couldn’t get the rhythm to run at full pace. All of the cats prefer it stand next to the wheel while they use it, unless it is 2:30am and they are using is by themselves waking me up wondering, “what’s that strange noise” as the are walking on it. It helped all my cats get to a healthier weight and reduced a little aggression until they realized they could fight over the treadmill too. so daily the cats take turns laying on the treadmill as if they are just squatting on it to prevent the other cats a turn, like when you go to the gym and people just occupy a machine but don’t really use it, just play on their phones, just my cats haven’t figured out how to open their own RUclips account and upload videos or they would be doing that too.

Funny! My cats would probably think it's hammock, too, lol. That poor (cute!) floppy haired dog...I'd cut the front of that dog's hair, even though that's the way they're supposed to look. My bro & sis-in-law had a Bouvier, & they kept the hair in front shorter, & he was SO cute -- you could actually see his beautiful eyes! That would have to be very annoying. But good for you two, getting the exercise wheel for your kitties!

Try using a laser pointer on the wheel's inner side.
Seems the kind of cat toy I would buy right away only to find out later that I am more excited about the cat toy than my cats. Nice video though :-)
Hahaha yep thats pretty much exactly what happened. We're probably going to end up selling it, it's just decoration at this point
@@takethevongwayhome type "cat amazing" on amazon, maybe you already know it, but that keeps my cats interested and somewhat more active and at the same time they will not swallow whole kibbles without chewing them. Had a few accidents when they just swallow food.

@@takethevongwayhome No, it would be too frustrating for the cats. Since they seem to prefer dry food ( less healthy ) than wet food ( healthier ) my cats are fed wet food first thing in the morning as they are very hungry because did not eat for about 8 hours. Then in the early afternoon when they are not starving I will give them dry food in that box and they spend good deal of time with it. Evening, wet food again. If I feed them dry food first, then they would casually ignore the wet food later. BUT It really depends on your cats since some cats only eat dry food. Only you can decide what is best for them. But if they are starving it would be a little cruel to feed them ALL the times like that. If however they have some appetite or are a little hungry than yes. That thing is one of the best thing I bought, the cats like it and even though they have to put in a little work at the end there is a reward so it is a win-win for everyone. Good Luck :-)
@@takethevongwayhome took a bit for my cats to like it,one right away and it took about 4 months before another one started using it. The kittens (so far all my litters) all used it immediately,before they could even walk good.

6 months and my 9 cats all hate it. No returns so I definitely have buyers remorse.
My cats love it, 3 of the 4 anyways. They have "wheel wars" and try and knock each other out of the wheel. My kitten actually spun a full 360 in one of the wheel wars lol

Try using a laser pointer to entice them. Move it from the base upward to about 2/3 up the curve. It will take them a little while to find the wheel fun but then you'll hear them using it in the middle of the night and have to get up to see what the noise is! :)
We tried a little, but none of our cats really care about the laser pointer for some reason. I'll try getting them interested in it more and see if it works, thank you!

Noo not at all they absolutely hated it except as a hammock. We ended up selling it since ours decided they prefer the sedentary lifestyle lol

Of course we'd find a cat in a box, they prefer any box over the contents. They need to be simple though, I made a box like you didn't and my cats would just sit on top and it was a double decker.

You folks should have bought a LAZER LIGHT, shined it half way up the wheel, and wiggled it around. cats love to chase lazer lites..

Unfortunately we had ours for a year and our cats never decided they liked it, so we ended up selling ours. I feel like it might work better starting younger kittens out on it maybe? Or just higher drive cats than ours lol
Bengal cats love the wheels, they really do have high energy levels though so it keeps them out of getting up to mischief elsewhere!

It's about 18 months since you posted this video, do your cats use the wheel, do you still have it? I'm debating whether to get one for my Maine Coons. Seems some cats make create use of wheels and others (most?) don't. I hope your cats are using it.

First of all, your kitties are gorgeous! I've been contemplating paying the big bucks for one of these but they're just too complicated for me to put together. So I'll just enjoy your video instead!
Putting it together actually wasn't bad! All the pieces just snapped into place. We finally ended up selling ours because our cats were just flat not interested. I was definitely more excited about it than they were ha!
DON'T GIVE UP! USE A LASER LIGHT FOR THEM TO CHASE IN THE WHEEL!!! :)

Some breeds are loungers and some are athletic. Don't expect your chunky cats to be interested in cat wheels. Your expensive investment will become an eyesore reminding you how you threw all that $$$.¢¢ away. It pays to watch different DIY videos for inspiration on constructing a low cost cat wheel that works. This way if the cat doesn't take to it you still have bragging rights.

Worth a shot, yeah. Our big guy Stephan is the one who really needs it though, and even after this long he still absolutely refuses to touch it. Too scary for him!

Was thinking about purchasing this. But never seen it advertised with a video clip. It appears to be a total waste of money. Absolutely will not be buying this invention!
Some peoples cats really seem to enjoy it! Our just weren’t having it with any amount of tasty rewards or bribing lol. Too bad, our big guy could really use the exercise -_-
