The dude still did incredibly well against a grand master - so kudos to him
Pretty sure he's one of the stronger "hustlers" - probably like 2100 - 2200 elo.
It's good attitude "I gave you a rook, whatre you try'n so hard?" lol. Very relatable temperament.
@@HunterBelkiran I am a 2100 USCF, 2142 or something like that. I do not believe so. He plays like an 1800, maybe a 1900. I switched to poker though where you can make real money, but used to love playing at Washington Square, the Marshall and Westfield Club in NJ back when the game still was a big thing to many people. Glad to see there is still some kind of scene around, but it's changes so much.
@@Allen-jn4kxhe was also drinking booze while playing lol
"He's a Grandmaster."
"Oh, so he wasn't playing serious?"
LOL
yea GM's are crazy, immagine being ranked 1400 thinking you are good and now 2800 dude appears lool twice the brain size.
@@MP-oj6zo I doubt the 1400 hobbiest players spent their entire lifetime studying, practicing and playing chess, as opposed to the 2600+ pro players. That's like someone that is good in the local Sunday Basketball League, and then playing 1v1 against an NBA player.
Great job by Noel defending his King against Paul's attack. He coordinates his pieces very well in an impressive way. He makes it look effortless.
WOw, he protects the king well. Good job!😂
I think Paul made that suggestions a few times 😅
4:47 peon al paso ?
@@amayadiego7324 No es legal, tienen que estar de lado a lado
Considering this is a Grandmaster White played quiet well, I mean come on, this is a hustler on the street and Black is a professional player.
Russian Paul is around 2300 playing strength USCF
@@udoonua2818wow I didn't know he was that high rated 😅 impressive!
He should be proud lf his effort.
Actually, "professional" means it's your profession, as in it's your source of income. And since the hustler earns a living playing chess, he could be considered a "professional" as well.
@@GerbenWijnja-xn5kyok, but still the verdict is clear, Hustler is not even near gms level of understanding the game
"It's good to understand that you made a mistake" - savage 😂
But absolutely useful advice for anything, from the most novice to the most advanced.
Good life advice, seriously
lol
Paul plays such creative chess, amazing.
How many chess streamers have played this guy for content? LOl. This guy is in so many streams. It's like, if a chess streamer goes to NY to play chess, it's against this guy : P
Very strong opponent.
A bit of bad manners at least in the last video, but I love this nice game. Both players played for a win. Noël had to defend very well and he did it.
And yet he did not get a penny from all those videos...who is the hustler at the end? Overall I find this format disgusting - when a titled player comes to the park and "under cover" beats old amateurs who buy their lunch for the pennies they win at chess
@@elmirgThat's life. Better can survive. The hustlers don't have to play chess. They can do other things.
@@elmirg I think you pay them even if you win, and It's pretty cool to play a grandmaster and put up a fight
Full of charisma, love listening to the banter while watching him play
I thought it was Aronian 😂
Hahaha almost 😋
Camera angle says no way.
he sounds and looks a bit like Aronian ya
Aronian has softer features and better hair
There is a resemblance in this view.
I predict Paul will fasten his seat belt next time.
He better does!!
I think he will Protect the King.
The eval bar went constantly only in one direction. Wow. No hidden chance for the hustler.
And he was a bit nicer than the last time he played with you. ;-)
This is what happens when you play a Grandmaster 😭
Sounds like two npcs trying to talk to eachother
I liked that the GM kept giving him subtle compliments to calm him down, haha. "If I have a good opponent I need to try hard."
Noel plays calmly and was winning that one all the way thru. Bravo!
Noel was never in huge danger but the other guy is no slouch either. If they played 10 games he could probably take 1
@@EB-bl6cc Maybe. Would be interesting battles for sure.
@@gmsi7d371 This is not a random guy found in the street, this is a professional chess hustler.
I'm a random guy on the street, and either of these guys would beat me in.. 8 moves, 10 if they were cautious.
@@gmsi7d371 Dude that guy is not a random guy from the street. He is one of the strongest chess hustlers in the world, he is master strength. He would beat 99.9% of people at chess. And the grandmaster in the video would crush HIM. And then there are people (Magnus, Nepo, Fabiano, etc.) that would crush the grandmaster too. There are levels to this game. You're spouting nonsense that the GM title doesn't mean anything.
@@moatef1886 hello how are you doing ?
Congratulations Noel on his tactical find. Very nice, Noel.
Somebody get this man a hat 🤠
I usually like Noel's blog posts on Lichess. Nice to put a face to the name and see some of his play. Just very solid stuff. Very nice. Love the trick at the end. And I also thought it was Aronian on the thumbnail!
Paul is a bit of a loud mouth, but his 'good game' was clearly sincere at 8:57.
He's not a loud mouth - he's a hustler. He is trying to convince his opponent to focus entirely on defense, a strategy that prevents you from winning.
@@nealorr5086 I mean to be fair in that position, black was up material and only had to beware of his king safety and some tricks with white's attack. Defend white's attacks --> win with your material advantage.

My comment.
Your head.
Paul knows pretty fast when he is playing a top player. He wasn’t born yesterday. Good video. Alessia does great content.
The top players have confidence to push pawns fast whereas I break out in a cold sweat every time I leave a pawn hanging.
So do the bottom players. They push relentlessly! Haha

Before the Internet made chess easily accessible, we sparred in the parks and clubs, at tournaments and schools, in hospitals and jails, back rooms and cafes, and all varieties of venues.
Face to face, often with quippish smack talk, usually good natured. Life long friendships formed, a cast of characters fill one's memory bank, important life lessons digested, this is why chess is a live sport. Just like making the beast with two backs is better live than from a feed.

Park chess player hustlers often talk trash for several reasons, rooted in psychology, entertainment, and culture:
### 1. **Psychological Warfare**:
- **Distraction**: Trash talk is a classic form of psychological manipulation. By talking trash, players attempt to distract their opponents and make them lose focus, leading to mistakes. It can break the concentration of even experienced players.
- **Intimidation**: Chess hustlers use trash talk to project confidence and dominance. The aim is to intimidate their opponents, making them feel pressured or less capable. This can make a player second-guess their moves or feel discouraged.
### 2. **Entertainment**:
- **Spectacle for the Audience**: In public settings like parks, chess games often attract onlookers. Trash talk adds an element of entertainment to the game, making it more engaging for spectators. It turns the match into a performance, not just for the players but for those watching.
- **Building Reputation**: Hustlers thrive on reputation. Being known for sharp wit and bold trash talk can attract more players and potential challengers. It also adds to the persona of being a “tough” opponent.
### 3. **Cultural Influence**:
- **Street Chess Tradition**: In many street or park chess scenes, especially in places like Washington Square Park in New York City, trash talk has become an ingrained part of the culture. It's seen as part of the game's rhythm, blending strategy with streetwise banter.
- **Competitive Edge**: In some urban environments, trash talk is a way to assert dominance and express oneself in a competitive space. It reflects a broader cultural practice of verbal sparring, where wit and quick comebacks are as valued as physical or mental prowess.
### 4. **Confidence and Hustling**:
- **Bluffing**: Chess hustlers often bet on games, and trash talk can serve as a form of bluffing. By talking a big game, they may convince opponents that they are more skilled than they actually are, potentially causing opponents to make more cautious or flawed moves.
- **Self-Motivation**: Some players use trash talk as a way to pump themselves up. By vocalizing their confidence and deriding their opponent, they keep their own morale high.
In essence, trash talk in park chess is part psychological strategy, part entertainment, and part cultural expression. It adds to the lively, competitive atmosphere and is a hallmark of the hustler's approach to the game.
This is all true, and many of the commentators are unaware of it. That being said, Paul's trash talk was a bit redundant which made it annoying.
What's the Shane Gillis joke? I don't have Autism, but it nicked me.
Whole reaction from old man😂 and your boyfriend's wickedly troll was. Op😂😂😂😂 love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Fantastic video. Thank you !

That’s fun to watch! I don’t know much chess but the skill level is so cool
Paul had a chess engine in his vodka at 4:15
WIth little time left, i wouldn't have seen that rook "blunder" trap on e2🤣 I would have taken the rook happily, and then cry when my queen was dead 2 moves later.
Me too. I was wondering and looking at the board for minutes wondering why he didn't take the rook. Then I finally saw the trap for the queen.
I was wondering why he didn't take the rook. It's amazing he saw that so fast.
paul is saluting from the first move
Russian Paul is a funny guy I gotta admit 😅
Paul is an absolute beast. I'm surprised I haven't seen someone selling shirts of him nearby.

K x d3 (best move, imho), Q x Q, and it is Queen vs. bishop, with with white having a passed pawn heading to a light square...
1400 ELO. Had to stop the video and it took me about 60 seconds to spot it. The GM seemed to see it instantaneously!
The hustler side stepped it (to his credit), but it only meant he was going to survive a few more moves...
That guy sank fast. He knew he was drowning when he said he made a mistake
A good game of chess. Hustler also quite impressive, decent master strength I would say.
Fun game actually. Well played both
I love the way they banter back and forth
02:39 Jumpscare of the year
YOU WERE RIGHT!
If a GM wants to play undercover, he definitely shouldn't move the pieces like that and start trash talking from the get-go. Russian Paul took it very well. A strong player and gallant in defeat. Quality.
Paul needs to use some of his hustling money to get a pair of sun glasses.
The hustler deserves a cut of the revenue from this video for his effort and temperament.
He deserves all the money actually
Amen
Hopefully they gave him something.
Big fan of watching Paul whenever he pops up in someone's video. Guy should have his own channel.
"Oh shit I forget!" LMAO I feel it bro!!!
GM are so strong, always very impressive !
There’s less than 1% in the global population that are GM. So I’m not surprised they that strong. 🤷♂️ hustler on the street are just fish food to them 😅. No offense to the Russian hustler on the street 😅.

How does a 2600 GM blunder his rook against basically a low level amateur? Unheard of. They have a saying in football " on any Sunday ". Meaning anything can happen. Never give up. I guess that applies in chess too.
The best video i watch today in youtube so enthusiastic joke emotion and super duper funny we want more video like this❤

Great verbal exchange, playful defiance vs. chutzpah, very funny. Takeaway of the game: " protect the king".

4:13 Gramps hitting the nipper
Wandered by Paul yesterday. He was alone at the table except for his little nipping bottle.
8:43 i was racking my brain on why the white king didn't take the black rook. After a few minutes i saw the trap that black set up to get white's queen. Very smart on both players!!
I remember when Dzindzi was the top nyc hustler.
I once got bullied by Dzindzi in a classical game when I was an expert. He made me look like I was a 1200 player though 😖
@@jamesmacdougall2694 I watched him play a decent player, maybe 1700, with 1 to 5 odds, plus either a Queen, two rooks, or two bishops, the three alternating. He easily won when giving the two bishops and time odds, but had trouble with the other two, although he could pull of some wins. He’d do crazy stuff like that. There’s also stories of masters trying to like the video, trying to hustle the hustler, and, of course, getting destroyed by Dzinzhi (even 5 min games) and having no idea who they were playing, at one point a top 15 player in the world in classic time controls, and, just guessing, maybe top 5 at speed chess.
Very strong
I have a chess question, i cannot quite figure out. How strong was Judith polgor at her apex? In a GM open. Men and women. I speculate top ten in the world. But i may be way off.
Yea Judit was top ten in world 4 long time
Judit was Number 8 in the world 20 years ago (2004). For a long time she was the youngest Grandmaster ever. She beat nearly all World Chess champions, who played at her time - including Kasaparov, Anand and Carlsen. There were nice games with Alexej Shirov, where she outcalculated the 2nd magican of Riga and won very tactical games. Same with Anand.
At the beginning of her carreer she had the problem, that she couln't always start in mens tournaments, now known as open tournaments. This may have slowed down her development a bit, not to compete against the strongest opponents. Otherwise she would probably have made it even further than 8th place on the Fide rating list.
I'm not completely informed, but the next best place of a female chess player I know is place 49 (historical Elo list). This is Vera Menchik, Czech World Champion with the famous Vera Menchik club. She was killed by a V-1 in London, WW2/1944. At the moment there is no women in the Fide top 100.
@Pfefferhaubitze Thanks
My instincts were correct. When I would go thru some of her games. I would think this is easily the best female player . I ever looked at.
At 8:41 Re2+ was such a baller move.
Next move, white would be in check from Be3 and black queen takes white queen.
I like these two together
Suddenly when he's losing it's just a game - you can see why he is a good hustler, constantly talking whilst the other player is thinking, trying to put the opponent off - but this guy can actually play so it didn't work...
Surprised no else is noticed his opponent drinking 😂
I thought that was a 5 hour energy
"The Strongest Chess Hustler in NYC"
Are you sure? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
At the end she is like: “He’s just better.” 💀
In a game where the kings often brawl,
And the bishops make a diagonal call,
Knights leap for the chance to be a Queen's romance,
While the pawns strive to rise and stand tall.
This hustler guy is really famous seen him in so many vids on youtube.
