    Civilization 6 Steam description:
    "Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, winner of 15 E3 awards including Best PC Game and Best Strategy Game, is the next entry in the popular Civilization franchise, which has sold in over 34 million units worldwide, including more than 8 million units of Civilization V.
    Originally created by legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization is a turn-based strategy game in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time. Become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading a civilization from the Stone Age to the Information Age. Wage war, conduct diplomacy, advance your culture, and go head-to-head with history’s greatest leaders as you attempt to build the greatest civilization the world has ever known.
    Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world: cities now physically expand across the map, active research in technology and culture unlocks new potential, and competing leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits as you race for one of five ways to achieve victory in the game.
    EXPANSIVE EMPIRES:
    See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
    ACTIVE RESEARCH:
    Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.
    DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY:
    Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.
    COMBINED ARMS:
    Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.
    ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER:
    In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.
    A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS:
    Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started."

    • @xXDarkxIdealsXx
      @xXDarkxIdealsXx 7 лет назад +33

      Well the problem with War-Carts is that they are only viable in ancient and early classical era. The ONLY way that War Carts are real useful is if you do an ancient/early-classical era rampage. So in that vein they are definitely great at getting a headstart on domination victory; however barely any civ has trouble surviving to late game; and civ's like Scythia can EASILY make up for the OP'ness of the War Cart (two Saka Horse Archers or two Horsemen easily outdoes a single war-cart, and since you automatically get two for each one you train...) The Ziggurats are a tad lackluster imo, as they are situational and the science bonus isn't all it's cracked up to be till you get the 2nd +1 added late-game; but they are one of the few science boosting improvements so they're still useful. Honestly, i think the ONE thing that keeps Sumeria from being great is their leader ability; sharing pillaging and exp gain is pointless for a domination oriented civ...even if you manage to wipe out 2 civ's before the late classical era you're still going to end up pissing off all the other civ's later on via warmonger penalties as a domination victory attempter. So nobody is really going to be your buddy very easily for you to gain those ally bonuses.

    • @Umnikros
      @Umnikros 7 лет назад +8

      The Ziggurat is a fairly useless tile improvement, I almost never use it in a game, however, warcrarts, on the other hand, are insane. I found myself being able to easily take the capital of my nearest neighbor on immortal (haven't tried on deity yet), they have no upkeep since they are available from the start of the game and they have 5 combat strength less then horseman which really isn't that much. On the other hand, their special ability is not properly worded. You do not have to be allied with another civ to use experience boost (not sure about pillaging rewards tho). How it works is you get experience if you are 5 tiles away from another unit ally or not. Which means you can place a unit near a city-state units who are fighting barbs or near two civilizations at war and you will get the experience, that means you will get tons of promotions throughout the game. Just this ability makes them easily one of the best civilizations in game for domination victory (just after Schytia imo).

    I personally love Persia because with the early empire Civic, theater square, and commercial hub you can easily be the most rich and culturally advanced civ in the game. I also like the yeilds and bonuses from surprise wars, having extra movement points and because of how easily you can mobilize an army angaisnt any threatening civ in the game.

  • @AlexanderRM2010
    @AlexanderRM2010 7 лет назад +57

    My top three before playing (so I have zero basis other than watching a ton of gameplay)...
    1. China. I suspect flexible tile management will offer great advantages in Civ 6 and China's builders significantly reduce the cost of changing tile improvements. All non-unit civ-unique abilities span the entire game (I know builders can only hurry early-game wonders, but the bonuses from those wonders apply throughout the game.)
    2. Rome. The roads man, the roads. New movement rules are going to drive me nuts and building a network with trades seems annoyingly micro. I need to be able to fly around the map.
    3. Arabia. Drew convinced me. I like them mainly to avoid the hassle of establishing a religion in the early game which, like roads, seems too involved. Religion should spring forth without much preemptory involvement or investment from the Government, *then* the Government fosters the spread of the religion for it's own devices. Arabia will allow me to focus on the early game priorities of exploration and growth.
    Wildcard civ are the Aztecs. I'm going to corner a few barbarian camps early game and milk them for builder slaves all game long...

    • @zachthegleeful
      @zachthegleeful 7 лет назад +5

      Unfortunately the Aztecs ability only converts enemy civilization units.

    • @theblindcritic5876
      @theblindcritic5876 7 лет назад +4

      I really, really disagree with a lot of your - and Drew's - points.
      1. First off, I've actually played as China in my first game and I have to say, the builder bonus is actually very mediocre. On its own, it would be awesome but, unfortunately, around the medieval era, you get a policy which allows builders to get two extra builds, which means other civs can now get 5 builds easily (compared to 6 for China). Due to the instantaneous nature of builds, this makes any builder related bonuses useless as they aren't really needed much. The Great Wall isn't particularly useful because the bonuses are quite mediocre (unless you're playing on Deity and need a strong defense). As for the woners, you get a 15% boost which often onlu amount to 2-3 turns, which is probably the best thing about the civ but, again, since it's restricted to just two eras, I'd rather go with Egypt or France (bonus for 3 eras and 5% more than China, also intrinsic so doesn't need to waste builder charges).
      2. Arabia: sure, Last Prophet is useful but if you're the last civ to get the religion, you get all the worst beliefs left. Don't know if Araba should be at the top, given that crucial detail, as rushing for a great prophet to get the good beliefs neuters your biggest advantage. The again, religious victories are the easiest at lower levels - the AI barely even puts up a fight after the industrial era - so you might still have an easy go at the victory, with the terrible beliefs and all.
      3. Drew has also greatly underestimated Kongo, I think. They are terrificaly good for culture as they get points for writers, artists and musicians (which is large snce it's three different great people) and because the way this game has been set up, unfortunately, the terrain is more or less inconsequential when it comes to production. You'll definitely have high production cities with more hills and mines than other cities but since the industrial zone and its buildings give flat bonuses regardless of terrain for the most part, your 'bad' cities will also have production with 10 hammers of your best (a difference of 40 hammers to 50) and all your cities are capped around 50-60 production from what I saw. As such, the extra production and food from great works, which you already get boosts for, will give you large boosts toward production if you plan so that you get a large number of great work slots in cities.) I haven't played them yet but my experience with China tells me those great work bonuses might really come in handy.

      You wanna know why China is useless? Three words...SELLING BUILDERS BACK. See the secret is, buidlers can be sold/salvaged etc.. for the exact same price (50% of what you would have payed for them if you bought them instead of producing them) REGARDLESS of whether they have one charge left or all 3 (4 for china i should say). So all you need to do is make two builders, use four out of the six build charges you have; and then sell them both back; which allows you to buy ANOTHER full builder with 3 more build charges...for FREE (because you earned exactly what it costs to buy a new one from selling the two old ones with 1 charge left) This gives you a total of SEVEN build charges for the cost of two builders; whereas China would only give you 8, making it not as useful anymore. I mean you could do the same thing as China of course, use six builds, sell them, then buy another to get a total of 10 build charges for the cost of 2 builders; but if you play, say Gorgo or Pericles you can use the +2 build charges civic card in the extra wildcard slot and that makes up for the entire bonus. Plus, early game wonders aren't all that useful so their 2nd bonus is situational as well. The ONE time i thought to myself "i wish i had china's wonder abilities" was when i found a great little spot on the coast playing as Japan with the Dead Sea natural wonder on it (any unit that fortify till healed's adjacent to the dead sea FULLY heals in one turn!) but since it's surrounded by desert there's basically no production (nice food though, had some oasis nearby and two copper mines with nice gold yields) and i was really wanting to build the Petra wonder for its +2 food, +2 Gold, +1 Production on ALL desert tiles within the city it's built in (which was like 6-7 tiles! That's like +12-14 gold, +12-14 food, and +6-7 production per turn!) and since i had shitty production it would take like 70 turns to build it as Japan. That was the ONLY time i wished i had China's wonder ability...

    The only problem that I see with Arabia is that you are going to be the LAST religion. I didn't get to play a prerelease but from playing Civ V, if you make the last religion, most of the beliefs are going to be gone. So even if you have cheaper religious buildings, you might not get any religious buildings. Just seems clunky the way the two interact. Nice list. Not that many things I disagree but there are few. I think you undervalued Aztec builder capture ability quite a bit. Just declare war to city state early on and farm those builders. You can then spam all districts your population allows fast and all improvements fast like extra farms for housing.
    Another one is Rome. Those free monuments will make your civic tree advance very fast even without inspiration bonuses and bath has double housing compared to aqueducts on river cities. (4 vs 2)

    I think Monty should be a lot higher up there. The thing about civs with very strong early game is they can snowball very easily if you can dominate all your neighbours in the first 100 or so turns.
    In the ancient era there are no penalties for warmongering, and you can get a lot of free workers and free cities by crushing 1 or 2 of your neighbours early. That said, I think Scythia is my favourite. Units just won't die

      Not to mention that later producing builders will be much cheaper than building districts (with the district rush ability one builder essentially becomes contruct a district in five turns with a builder). Lux improved in your own lands are on steriods and give amenities to 6 cities instead of 4 and the first copy boosts all your unit's strength (melee, ranged, bombard and religious str). Aztecs have so much potential for wide empires, also after the era of eagle warriors.

    • @xXDarkxIdealsXx
      @xXDarkxIdealsXx 7 лет назад +3

      i love war carts as much as the next guy (#beepbeep >;8]' ) but you gotta admit, they are only viable in ancient and early classical era; so the only viable method of using them is to blind rush neighboring civ's with a war cart swarm in the ancient era to take them out as soon as possible; which definitely allows you to have almost an entire standard size map continent by the medieval era with ease, but you end up kinda neglecting anything else really so you fall behind in technology, civics, and religion etc.. so you can't defend against missionaries, can't build Medieval units like knight, crossbowman, pikeman etc.. for quite a while and will thus be vulnerable when your beep-carts are up against America with a host of 50 power knights rushing at you in turn 90, and can't get third tier governments like Monarchy so are at a disadvantage in civic card slots (although if you snag Oligarchy by then you'd be alright i suppose) I think the main problem with Sumeria is their main ability is near useless. Sharing pillage rewards and battle exp with allies? How many frickin allies are you gonna have as a domination victory oriented civ that is based on warmongering as much as possible as early as possible? If you can't wipe out every civ on your continent before the medieval era your warmonger penalties will be so high that NOBODY would be your friend to share pillage/exp lol. Then there's the fact that the Ziggurat is kinda "meh", it makes up for the lack of science if you're churning war carts out like the wind, but it's situational and only gives +1 science and only on rivers. idk, on one hand i LOVE Sumeria, but on the other i kinda understand it being lower on the list. I do think it should've been like 14-15ish instead of 20 though.

    • @RenlangRen
      @RenlangRen 7 лет назад +5

      @thescaleless, you arguments against the warcarts in the medival era and latter is a off because they upgrade into knights. You wil have twice the cities, population, and therefore a stronger economy and science with Sumeria, not a weaker one. If you have not killed off your competition on your continent by the medival era you are doing something wrong with Sumeria.

    • @justintheshell
      @justintheshell 6 лет назад

      @thescaleless For me, the biggest perk when playing Sumeria is the tribal village you get for clearing out a barbarian outpost. They spawn quite frequently early game, and the city states are not that good at dealing with them at that point. Warcarts are not the best for taking out a fortified spearman, though, so what I do instead is to send 3 envoys to a city state with a few warriors and archers, rake up the small cost of hiring their military (around 225 gold early game, cheaper than rush-buying an archer) and I get to keep them for 45 turns. I am able to take out at least 5-6 barbarian settlements , get those units promoted ... and then launch an opportunistic attack on an unsuspecting civ where I am usually able to capture at best all of their cities and at least just one city. The bonuses you get from those extra 5-6 tribal villages that nobody else can touch since they dont have the perk make the cost of hiring the city states' military to attack another civ really worth it

      Triggering more eureka/inspirations means putting extra efforts in doing different things. Sometime not all of them are beneficial and it is obviously made the game harder to play with less experienced player.
      This video put Civ like America/England at top because those civ involve with less thinking while getting decent bonuses. China needs to play very carefully early game to dominate. Especially with the wonder rush/wall placement in early games, and the right use of cannon in mid game. They are all great boost, but it could become conditional depending on your starting position.
      In my opinion all civs can be great, but the bonus determines the play style and the different management you’ll need to proceed. China is definitely the more difficult civ to play.

    So your main reasoning for the top 5 civs is because they're very stacked with lots of bonuses, but why is China at the bottom despite also having many powerful bonuses comparable with the top 5? Bonus eureka/civics may seem small but it adds up over the course of the game if you consistently get them. I'd say there's so far the only real science civ in the game. They are almost guaranteed to get the early wonders with how they can use builders (each with 1 more charge) which is a huge advantage, great wall is optional but it's the best defense there is in the game. They can go for science victories and are obviously very hard to kill which is the worst nightmare of any warmongers.

      He's thinking also about how the AI will perform, and not just how a player can use their bonuses. Maybe ai onlys will change his mind about some things when he manages to get them up and running.

      But it's stupid to judge based on what the AI can do because the AI is usually dumber than a bag of hammers. Players can use China to get a massive early game lead; easily rushing a few wonders and often getting the first religion going because of it (Stonehenge rush). The bonus effeciency of builders is so good, especially when you can throw them at those first two tiers of wonders.

      OgreSamanosuke Err... Do you watch this channel often? How the AI plays and how it impacts the game is a huge thing around here.

    • @Ashtarte3D
      @Ashtarte3D 7 лет назад +11

      Julia Linne No I don't watch this channel it was recommended by RUclips but I stand by my statement. It's a list called "Top 20 Best Civs" and then devalues a very powerful civ because the AI, which is historically retarded, can't utilize it? That's just silly.

  • @hemmydall
    @hemmydall 7 лет назад

    Having played China a lot, I would suggest they are higher on that list if you use Qin's strengths. Strong early game and a constant 10% bonus to science and culture through eureka's and inspirations adds up. Their builders and wonder building position for a strong late game if done right, or a great early game as well.

      I think they are really good too, especially for your first game. That's why I'm going to play them first. The Eureka and Inspiration bonus alone seems pretty OP.

      China seems strong to me, they have a big bonus to science if you work the eureka system correctly.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405 7 лет назад

      yeah it is almost like a flat 10% boost to science in a way. good way of doing a science boost while not making it overpowered like in the past. The thing That I like about them is they have the choice of any early wonder they want a really early Oracle and pyramid will do........Wonders for setting up long term success. That being said Greece Germany Japan and America are still much better in my opinion

    • @vlisto3712
      @vlisto3712 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah, couldn't you use their workers to rush finish the pyramid so that you can get workers with five uses.

    I still find it hilarious that drew added gilgamesh, which was broken like hell, at the bottom at the list

  • @crni1000
    @crni1000 7 лет назад

    Aztec is greatly underestimated in my opinion. You get +1 bonus for each luxury improvement which can easily add up to >+10 strength in later part of the game . Add that to rushing building districts with +5 builders in later cities i would place them at the top of the list.

    My favorite has to be America just because it’s so easy to go for a culture victory plus the extra attack on your continent is so good early on against barbs so you can always get a pretty good start

    My first playthrough of civ VI i played as Rome. I didn't notice at first but I soon realized my science was so far ahead from everybody else in the game to where I had the colonial casis beli for all the other civ's. I also had nuclear bombs in 1500 AD. The whole game I was fighting pikemen horses and crossbows with infantry tanks and bombers. I played on prince which may be the cause but it seemed too easy.

      Happened to me too as Rome in my first game. I did the science victory and I was so far ahead. Teddy declared war on me with Crossbows and Knights and I already had Tanks and Mechanized Infantry :D But the game took me almost 12 hours to finish tough^^

      Darius I Whats funny is i wasnt even aiming for science victory or focusing on it. I actually Was going for domination victory to see how difficult it was. I considered science but i felt bad for all the other civs being so behind i decided to nuke them all an invade with like 5 units for each entire civ.

      I was thinking much the same thing. Sumeria isn't that great, but their War Carts and the Epic Quest mean they are far from the worst Civ. Germany and Scythia are pretty much the #1 & #2 civs in the game at the moment, although I'm not sure who gets the actual #1 spot. And America is ok, but nowhere near the #2 spot IMO.

  • @Dankonen

    With the new expansions Pedro rocketed to the top. The adjacency bonus stacks with pantheon beliefs. Now if you have the production belief, you can play epic and have buildings in 3 or 4 turns.
    Pedro is OP AF if you get the pantheon belief.
