  • In this video we look at some of the best golf clubs to come from Japan! For many years Japan has been looked upon as the best producer of forged golf irons in the world. Is this stereotype accurate? And which of Japan's golf club manufactures make the best products. Is it Honma and the TR20 driver or irons?

Check out Fourteen Golf and Epon. Fourteens are phenomenal and their wedges area some of the best I’ve ever hit (Vegas are easily number 1)
But get your hands on some Muira 201’s or 501’s. Unreal how good they feel.

Tiger's irons in his heyday were forged by Endo (the makers of Epon). This is now well documented and can be googled easily. Endo also forges a lot of the high-end OEM forged irons, especially for Srixon and Mizuno. I hit them all in my fitting and loved the Mura, Epon's, and Mizuno Forged JPX. I ended up with the Epon's based on personal feel and looks. I get a little more distance from them as well so that doesn't hurt :)

I play Miura would never change, Japan's best for mine, they hit straight, weight is perfect and consistent, forgiving, smooth off the club face and the ball stops dead on landing on the green from 4 iron to LW. I used to play forged Brisgestone Precept Tour premiums from early 2000's they were nice when hit well but a bit less forgiving. KBS $ taper is a lovely shaft as well in the 201's.

Wow Pete... Both iron models, and the driver look great. Especially the simplicity of that driver - like you said, that’s the biggest surprise. Shame you forgot about Srixon, but there are a few other smaller Japanese brands too: Yonex, Epon, PRGR, and then these four - OnOff, Roddio, Fourteen Golf and GIII - all part of the Globeride stable, formerly known as Daiwa. There are some beautiful irons and wedges that come out of Japan, that’s for sure. Loving your vids, cheers from a re-lockdown Melbourne 🇦🇺

Currently playing a set of Bridgestone irons (Endo forged)... And they are exquisite when struck in the middle. But then again most forged "small cavity" irons are as well (think Titelist CB). But they have a little something in the looks department. And there's the mystique, which doesn't help at all factually but might end up being one of the factors why I'm a good iron player (relative to my handicap).

Humble opinion, I couldn't justify the price for a full set of most of the Japanese "specials"...it'd be fun testing them though! As an add-in, 2017, 10th hole tee shots at Vilamoura...brilliant from you and Rick both, just outstanding! Still ranks in my Top 5 ever seen!

I’ve got a set of forged Honma’s. I went in to buy clubs that felt the best to me. And they are pure. I am so stoked with my honma’s. I tried em all and was left with honma mizuno and Bridgestone (all Japanese clubs). I tried the Titleist etc but the feel on these is outrageous

My playing partner was a single figure player with mizuno blades As a 15 HD player I was determined not to like them ( due to having to explain to the wife) so I took the 3 iron blade expecting it to feel the worst. I took a big swing and hit the shot. It was the greatest feeling I had ever felt through a club. I went out and bought a mixed set the next week. I kept them for 10 years and now being old I changed to the hot metal which feel so buttery. Before buying the hot metals I tried all the brands in the shop but the mizuno felt the best and for my swing the hot metal over the mizuno blades.

I live in Japan and I love my XXIO clubs. Also I have a set of Gloire by Taylormade, also good but the XXIO is in my bag. By the way my XXIO clubs I got used very cheap and they are 20 years old.

Are the clubs as expensive in Japan? I’m wondering why they are so expensive in the UK, import tax perhaps?

I used to play Ping then I saw and fell in love with the Miura story. I’m not a great golfer but bought a full set and they are amazing. Unlike marketing BS like PXG. If you hit them correctly they reward you and Oh My God they stop on a penny. You can really dial them in. My only critic is they have a very limited offering for a left hander. I bought them as an investment in my game and could never blame my tools. It’s the Indian not the arrow!

Can you elaborate on the BS marketing of the PXG, as there are quite a lot of independent reviews of their Gen3 irons which say they are amazing....Also Ian Fraiser someone who is known as one of worlds best club fitters did a video on the PXG proto driver, which he hit very well.

Currently gaming previous Honma irons. Mixed set of Rose Proto and 747V. Coming from forged Mizuno set, Honma irons feel so much better. No doubt. Also, they perform so well.

Started gaming Miura CB 57s last year and they are butter AF. They punish the crap out of you if you mishit them but nothing like them on a pure strike. Unbelievably soft feel but they really jump off the face. I haven’t lost any distance even though the lofts are really weak. PW, 9, 8 are 47, 42, and 38 for example. You get tons of height and spin so they stop on a dime.
