Nope! I don’t match direct any more so this is how I can positively contribute - a buddy started a USPSA club so I did these for him to help get new guys into his match
Perfect video to help me digest what to expect for my first time out! What's crazy to me is after years of running and competing in Autocross how similar the two sports are! The best gear means nothing until you know what you need and even then experience and fundamentals will always take you further. As well as the best way to meet people and learn more is to help out! Great video!
I think a big factor that helped me get into USPSA was doing less intense matches beforehand. I really like steel plate matches, for example. I got used to the procedures without needing to run around and shoot, like at USPSA. It's way easier to just stand in one place and start with your muzzle on a table instead of having to draw from a holster.
Just wanna say thanks so much for your channel. Been shooting for about a year with an eye to increasing my competitive position. Really appreciate your instruction.
Where is part two you mention at the end? I can’t seem to find it. This one is great just wanting to know if there’s another one I should share with newbies.
I’m finally going to get back into competitive shooting again after my first match way back last summer. I’m on the waitlist for my second ever match taking place this Sunday. I was unaware, but I guess I need to remove the magwell from my Canik Mete SFX for carry optics huh? Thanks for all of the solid advice, these are nice refresher videos. Great content as always, much love from Texas.
You just had to say don't buy new stuff with my wife sitting right next to me , after I had just said I need completely new gear. I was this close to a cz shadow 2 😢
I love your channel and cause of you carry a Bul! I think you should do a full masterclass from a-z “so you wanna shoot a match” 😳🤔😳😂 thank you for your work!
@@davidsvahn5069 it's called a skeltonized race holster - you can use it for sure in Limited, Limited Optics, and Open. You can't use it in production, single stack, or carry optics. Carry Optics and Limited Optics are basically the same.
I know you covered practical accuracy on beginning to compete in USPSA matches, do you have any recommendations on what matches to begin competing in for a novice/entry level competitor..?
I would recommend starting with Steel Challenge if you can find a local match. Little or no movement on the clock and shooting steel targets that give an audible ring with a hit. Once you've shot a few, the start is similar to USPSA but different stages with movement and reloads on the clock.
You mention keeping off the barricade. Is it allowed to use the barricade for support? I figure it might be slower but I didn't know if that was allowed
As a big guy with a jelly belly I'm interested in getting into the sport. Question about the gear belt. Are you allowed to have the suspender type of belt to save from the embarrassment of your gun belt falling around your knees while making your way around the course? This has been the best video I have found to explain the what and how of the basics when going to your first match. Thank you.
As always, excellent. However. :) I can do all of your skill checks, no problem. What I CAN'T do, is do it fast enough to not be dead last. Your "unlimited time" is... less than helpful for determining if you're going to have a chance. I know... this is for absolute beginners, and you just have to do some matches to know what you need to work on. But if you had to give some rough times for performing these skill checks, what would you recommend to avoid total embarrassment?
I shot my first match in 2018 and I had a similar experience for at least a half dozen matches. What changed? I started asking questions from the better shooters; "what am I doing wrong?", "Was that a bad stage plan?", "Any pointers for the new guy?" , etc. Most people are happy to share their experience and opinions. Listening to what they say and focus on what overlaps. Like I was told "your grip starts good and turns to shit after a reload", sure enough the hits on paper proved it. My "skill check" (if I understand correctly) was when I saw my name in the middle of the list after a match.
Big dad love to you, I love everything you do and put out here, but one thing I disagree with you on the holster, I shoot IDPA , I carry leather daily and with my matches, leather in my opinion is much more comfortable , quit, and conceals easier, and offers much more legitimate retention. I get your reasoning for Kydex/plastic, they stay open, and are easier for range theatrics. But iam in this to be an armed citizen first, competitive shooter as an amateur second. I am saying this as a new IDPA shooter. But I have worked as an armed professional since I was 17 when I joined the Army as A Military Policeman, and then to a civilian LEO. I have reached 50 a few months ago. Just friendly debate. You are 100% on all you cover. 50 year old dad here with two daughters 21 & 20 years old, was a stay at home dad and trophy husband. Big Dad Energy!
The max and flex are both USPSA /IPSC only holsters - the max is more straight forward - flex requires learning how to use a locking race holster and is only legal for Limited/ Limited Optics / Open
Cool video.. I noticed around @9:17 your lynx belt has a ratchet on it. Was it a DIY hack job or an after market purchase? Link or video on it would be cool. My lynx belt needs to be measured the night before a shoot and links added or removed, depending on whether I just wolfed down a family size pizza or I'm on the Herbal all raw green plant super diet.. And the half links DAA sells is not a fix..
I carry a prodigy with a tlr1 weapons light and that's the only holsters I have as well would that be OK or would I need a holster that doesn't allow for a light?
Question: I'm a pretty efficient stagnant shooter (which means nothing here) but its becoming mundane and its time for me to progress. Unfortunately in NJ there aren't many ranges where you can move more dynamically such as a USPSA setting for practice. Safety is my above all #1 rule but i've never done anything like this. Is it worth just showing up and watching a couple matches or should I sign up and at least try it out? Statement: Regardless if you answer, THANK YOU! For these videos.
You can show up and watch - but bring your head - if you can move safely and gun handle safely you could dive in. Practiscore.com is the website to find matches
I like this a lot. I kinda wish this existed a couple years ago, but your other videos helped me out as well. I think another good series would be "How to Afford [Rich Man's Game/Shooting Sports/another title]?" This stuff is killing my wallet, and it doesn't look like reloading helps much any more.
I put off reloading for a while but It def helps still. You just have to be patient and try to buy in bulk whenever possible. I do like that video idea a lot!
I have a question about USPA or competition games in general, when running long distance to the stage like 50-100yrds can you stow it in the holster instead of holding it out. My thing is that I have seen shooters who knows what they are doing and yet I have seen them trip and fall so that’s why I ask is it ok to stow the pistol in the holster for long distance running to a stage.
Ok , question. Do you immediately get a class letter qualification after your first match ,or how does that work ? I'd almost do it once , just to see I'd if rank as high as my ego thinks I would, or if I'd embarras myself.
How anal this group is with gun handling and mag loading is a massive turn off. If you’re serious scared of me loading ammo into mags I really cannot take the rest of your “safety” precautions seriously
Everyone is a pro until someone shoots themselves. You can load mags anywhere but a safe area where you can handle the gun unsupervised - it’s par for the course in most shooting sports
I don't know if these get as many views as product reviews, but this type of content is a heck of a contribution to the community, well done.

Glad they helped!

Great video really like the ease of understanding that you bring.
What an excellent video. I wish this was available when I got started. I’m just glad it’s here now. I can just send this link to newbs. Thanks!
That’s what it’s here for!
I am doing my first one tomorrow. Awesome advice thank you for this informative video.
I may not need a fancy CZ to shoot USPSA. But I did decide I need to shoot USPSA because I started carrying an SP-01
hoping to get my start in pistol competition shooting soon, these videos made it a lot easier to understand
Great lesson. I wish this video was around when I started.
this is why, I love this channel!
Well I just ordered my black scorpion holster going to a match tomorrow just to see what all I need to do the sport

Are 1911's the wrong platform for USPSA ? I have never shot a competitive match? Great video, very informative.
Nice trick with the paper
Where did u get ur race holster for ur race gun...im learning alot from these videos...thanks again
It’s a double alpha flex - their website or shooters connection
@TheHumbleMarksman can u use this holster in all USPSA Division??? Is this holster called a skeleton holster..im new to uspsa..thanks again

In some cases - yes you can and some you cannot as the barricade is considered out of bounds
“Don’t buy any new gear”, I’m failing already.
It’s tough!
Thank you for the great information
Love ya Humble

I can’t tell you what midfield bench marks are sadly - I try to focus on match winning benchmarks and chase those

If people run appendix rigs they might have 1 extra mag on the sidecar, but where do they keep the other mags incase the need a spare?
Belt mount pouches

Nah you are fine in USPSA now in limited optics for now

depends on the division and the game.

You have to shoot 4 classifier stages - each match usually has 1 classifier - but about once a year a club has a classifier match

Your elementary gym teacher wants his blue shorts back…jk great video
Well if I didn't work 40, 48, or 56 hours a week and had money left over after bills etc. I might try it out.
So, at the start and in between stages, you have to load all of your magazines at your car? Nobody ever talks about that.
No anywhere on the range is fine- except safe areas
Ha. The only problem with running what I have is that I'd have to shoot open.
it do be like that sometimes.
