    Didn’t think you could free camp at Jackson’s Bay, good to know

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  Год назад

      You can free camp there, it's on the wiki camps app, not on the NZMCA, a lot of places missing off that app... Pretty quite there the time of year we visited. Lots of options up the coast though, and along the rivers for a free camp over, with no signs saying you can't.

    Ships Creek and the Swamp Kahikatea walk is amazing. Loved that when we drove through there. You didn't mention if you managed do to some laundry. You could have gone back to basics and washed it in the river you were camped beside. 🤫 Hope you got across Haast Pass safely and you weren't held up by the big wash out. Looking forward to your next instalment👋

    It's now official: Toby holds the record for throwing a rock into every lake, stream, river, creek, waterfall, and pond in the South Island...All 2,999,999,999,999,999,999 of them.
    It's great to see the native Kahikatea pine forest at Lake Matheson. We need to plant more of them around NZ as well as the other native pine trees such as Rimu, Tanekaha, Libocedrus Plumosa, and Manoao. It's a shame most of the old monoculture Kahikatea pine forests on both islands were cut down and cleared for timber, settlements, and farms.
    I personally think pine trees look better and have the chance to stand out on their own in monoculure forests just like the native monoculture red beech forests, rather than being planted and partly hidden among shorter, thick, and bushy trees. It also makes it easier for people to trek through.
