Hey folks, I've been really excited to have this video go up and a lot of preparation went in to it, so if you could share it with your friends (even those that have quit) would be greatly appreciated
Could you do a video on the early English release of vanguard? I keep on hearing about this at my locals but I never understood what they were talking about
I did a retrospective blog on the game's early days as well not that long ago, always fun to take a trip down memory lane :). But yeah, the altered release schedule in English was solely designed to prevent the MLB/Alfred/Tsukuyomi/The End dominance that happened in Japan. ...Though that did lead to an over 50% Gold Paladin representation in the meta, but that's another issue.
I love the history of any TCG, make me remember my days at the cafeteria discussing what deck should we buy GP or DP. I love to see more content like this in the near future.
Cool video, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, I only started to play vanguard at the release of BT13 and have not stopped playing to this day. I had some friends of mine that played the game way before I joined and they told me on some occasions that those 3 decks at the end of season 1 were just broken at the time and I always wanted to hear more about it in a in-depth video :) keep up the good work and cheers from Portugal :D
I started playing the game when Breaker of Limits came out so I remember this well. I just sad that dark rex in not in the reboot so far or reckless express. Nice video. Have a good week.
I wasn't playing in the early days, so this is a neat little throwback of the game to look back on and see how it affected the meta at the time. I would love to see more of these, both how restriction lists affected the meta and how the meta evolved over time with different sets on both the Japanese and the English side of the game. Good stuff!
Really nice historical view of the list! As a long time player as well, I remember when this list first came out. It made me not invest much in meta decks at the time as I thought it would become similar to how YGO handled the list. Glad I was wrong lol.
Yeah I remember having the same reaction back then LOL But I was part of the group of people that said 'it's probably not gonna happen in ENG' back then so wasn't too worried haha
Loving this video so much! I never ever thought there's such a history on the restriction list, let alone the restriction of DOTE, MLB etc. Thank you so much for this video, I'll appreciate it if there's more historical videos of these in the future :)
I realize I'm 3 years late to this discussion; I actually was interested in vanguard at the time, what drew me in was Tsukiyomi. I can honestly say I think if you put aside the power of the three decks, they were just so popular because at least in my rose-colored nostalgia glasses, the decks were just that iconic. They were legit fun to play and left alone, I can see people still wanting to play them just because they were FUN. Not great from a business stand point, but as a fan of the show and those particular deck designs, it was just fantastic. Losing Tsukiyomi and unable to really afford to keep up with Jewel Knights and Lacquer (Or maybe it was Alice?) for palemoon, I just gave up on vanguard and stuck with yugioh. That said, since I picked up Dear Days, I'm really enjoying vanguard again and like a lot of the newer stuff and the ride deck concept is really cool too. As someone learning the new stuff, I am a bit overwhelmed at all the stuff thrown into a "nation" as opposed to the straightforward nature "clans", but its getting better bit by bit.
Really cool video! I had no clue that the end of season 1 decks were so powerful in Japan that they managed to tackle their way through the entirety of season 2, that's crazy! :O I knew those decks were strong for english, but our weird set release schedule hid this fascinating piece of history from me. Historical videos like this would be awesome to see more of! :D Loved the music and the use of those images from the original anime... hit me right in the nostalgia there :P
Seeing videos like this always make me happy. While I watched the anime at the time, I didn't play the game (because I Beyblade took all my money), so it's really cool to see what I missed out on now that I've finally started to play the game!
A very neat look at a part of vanguard history and a informative one! I started getting into vanguard right around this time so I didn't know much about all this and was just finishing up high school at the time too so attention was there haha. Did go back and learn about this as I got more into the game but still interesting to watch this and learn a thing or two. Very well made video and hope we see more like this in the future!
I remember this and part of me wonders that if DOTE/MLB/Tsuki were at full power by the time Eradicators came out that if Japan would have avoided the 'Tier 0' Dragonic Descendant format (that's right folks. Japanese Vanguard actually had a legitimate Tier 0 format of 'play EDD or lose' that brought about the 2nd major restricted list). A major part of that deck's dominance was that it was just so much better than everything around it and nobody knew how to handle the EDD Break Ride turn iirc. I'm also curious to hear that discussion on the two times Bushiroad changed the English product release schedule and what it meant for us here as there was quite a few neat things that happened in our format in both instances. Also here's a fun factoid. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is currently using the same Restriction List type for its Banlists and I think the format is a really good one based on what happened following these lists in both games.
Guess Melody needs to keep dominating til March 2020 before Bushiroad does something about them. Then again, Ange has already dominated for more than a year (G-CB07 released March of 2018) & yet the only restriction it got was Kruk which didn't slow it down 1 bit.
My only fear is that if Ange gets restricted to the point of falling off the board, Chaos breaker might be back to be the boogyman gatekeeper of the meta. And remember, with the new glueball unlockers are way less effective, because you use the unlocker AND need to commit more to board because stuff got binded. And if chaos comes back, we can say goodbye to the somewhat "we are all good exept this bonkers mermaid deck", because a lot of decks would die (like Luard for example), so they probably want to wait a little to support via the new stuff some other cards that can somewhat play around handlocking (like accel decks for example, that by getting new rear circles and drawing can potentially "outrun" lock by continuing to create new circles, but it's too soon for that). I feel like our past sins as link joker players are still making a mess of game design.
YEASSS this is the stuff I been waiting for. As a relative "new" player I have always been fascinated about the game's environment before I started playing end 2015 early 2016
😓Jesus I hate it when my dyslexia kicks in. I thought you were doing a video out in the first resurrection list as in old cards gaining new stats and such still I learned something today thanks😌
I’m glad Bushiroad handles Vanguard power creep way better than Konami handles it for Yu-Gi-Oh. As a result, Vanguard has no ban list, the restrictions are appropriate, and we’re not left with a long list of stupidly powerful cards banned so hard we’ll never see them again. I do get that Yu-Gi-Oh was the forerunner of the anime card game genre so Konami would have had a lot to figure out on their own, but it feels like they’ve barely learnt anything from it.
What I liked about the EN meta was how The End never got restricted, so once DDD came out Dauntless/The End became a thing and that was a thing of beauty until the inevitable Conroe restriction thanks to Nouvelle (cancer) Vague.
Thank you so much sir,i like it. Can i ask you a question pls? In your opinon do you think that genissis will get regalia support to v series since it is an old archtype since break ride?
I remember everyone in my area for the tcg wanted to play the end and out right it was the best deck and ya we didn’t have any real restrictions just that Barchel couldn’t be a starter, u couldn’t mix clans anymore except blaster dark in royal paladins. And I think there was a restriction on blaster dark for sum unknown reason I think it was at two or one.
Switching around the release schedule to prevent the big 3 from dominating was a smart move from Bushi... though it resulted in Gold dominating for quite a while.
It would be nice to mention blaster blade spirit coming out on bt09 making majesty decks super consistent, even with the restriction. Some EN players use 1 or 2 MLB because wingal brave was always able to fetch him since the deck used to run with 12 blasters.
When my first interaction with a TCG community is a video talking about game balance, it just feels wrong. One of the cons of living in Northern Europe. (I was looking for a new TCG to try out, and this popped up in recommendations.)
DifferentFight the first deck I played was the daikaiser/reverse daiyusha deck so I think that may have been why 😅. wouldn't have really picked up dp if a random person at a card shop didn't tell me that they make extra crits and kill the opponent quickly which I thought was cool. still love them to this day 😂😂😂 . that was sorta off topic though hahaha

No mention of how King of Knights Alfred was on that list as well, being a part of the consistent Alfred Toolbox deck?

Love the vid, would love to see more content like this in the future
These historical approaches are so cool, keep up the great work.
Thank you very much :D

Haha I hope I did justice to covering how strong the decks actually were back then :')
I started playing the game when Breaker of Limits came out so I remember this well. I just sad that dark rex in not in the reboot so far or reckless express. Nice video. Have a good week.
Yeahh honestly I'm most surprised that one of the most popular Gold units, Spectral Duke, still doesn't have a retrain in the V Series LOL

Either that or things keep getting powercrept :( At least in Premium Ange has gotten less relevant with other decks catching up with PremColle

Cool!!! I started vanguard as kagero before this banlist came out a month later. T^T
Aww in Japanese format? LOL
I like this
What's your predictions for the new bans
Grate video as always :) didn't we get limit brake before vb5 any way in engelish realise

We need a better restriction list for premium in the English format.
wow I didn't know that.
Glad to have shared something new then :D

I thought you were gonna respond with the updated caution watch for standard and premium, bermuda is such a giant target for being such a cash cow.
Nah that's for another video, I've been working on this since well before the restriction list got announced
Dauntless DOTE was a nasty deck in English
It's that in anime The END doesn't even win a single fight

It seems that...
