      @@aoleon3908 Of course, Willie grew up in Texas. At the time, there was a definite difference between "country" and "western". Western music was largely some sort of variation on "western swing" (think "cowboy songs" and the like). It was actually closer to big band and soft jazz than "country" music, like the Carter family. When you know that, you can hear the influence, especially in the chord progressions.

    Patsy Cline was a pioneer in country music. A trailblazer for women in country music, she was born Sept 8 1932 and died tragically in a plane crash March 5 1963. Great choice. She had other hits along with Crazy, them being "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall to Pieces", "She's Got You", "Leavin' On Your Mind" and "Sweet Dreams". The latter recorded just one month prior to her death...

    Patsy Cline was a vocal master of her genre; she's a classic. You should also check out some of her live performances where she sings a more uptempo song like San Antonio Rose or "I got the lovesick blues," I hear that she was better live than in the studio and when you hear her on one of her tv appearances you get a feel for that.
    You love music and you can listen to different kinds of music and still get the feeling of what the artist is trying to convey. Ray Charles went through a country period and he was just as soulful singing songs by Eddy Arnold and Hank Williams as he was singing R & B songs. You've got your ears wide open, that's cool.

    If it weren't for Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and even Reba wouldn't have been as big as they were. She's the godmother of country music. Sadly, her life was cut short in her prime, killed in a plane crash if I remember correctly.

    • @SilverbladeDagger
      @SilverbladeDagger 5 лет назад +4

      While true, they didn't have the hard hitting impact that Patsy Cline did. People don't often say those two were their inspiration as much as they say Patsy was, but that isn't to minimize their contributions either.

    • @williamlinington9166
      @williamlinington9166 5 лет назад +1

      She was not the Godmother of Country music. That is just ridiculous. She transcended genres by crossing over into the Pop Charts, but the ones before her as mentioned ones like Kitty Wells and Jean Shepherd had quite an impact and paved the way for other artists. Prior to this female country singers had a hard time in the industry as a single act. Case and example, Jean Sheperd did Duets early in her career with Ferlin Husky. When their song "Dear John" was a success, she then launched into more of a solo career.

    Patsy Cline is a legend. I love this woman. I got her vinyl records. Started at age of 11 yrs old. She was my first "country singer" i loved. But she was a cross over. Her music topped Country/ RnR top 10 in early 60s. She died way too young. Unfortunately in a plane crash in Tennessee in 1963. Her and Loretta Lynn were great friends. Loretta Lynn wrote a song about Patsys death and Patsys husband Charlie called The Haunted House. Patsy Clines song Sweet Dreams to me is most haunting but beautiful. Maybe because it was release after her death.

    It warms this 70 year young heart to see you enjoy so much of the music I grew up with. I was lucky and got to grow up with music from my grandparents era because we inherited their windup victrola that played very big, and thick records. We also had the records of my parents era (1930's into the 1950's). Then I collected my own music. I have no musical talent but I'll be a great audience.:-)

    Patsy Cline had a one-of-a-kind voice in a generation or history. Her vibrato is very subtle that one can miss. I bought this LP and I'm in love with her voice. As a white woman of 63, I can truly appreciate music from 60+ years ago, as you could understand the lyrics w/o flashing lights on stage or on TV. RIP dear lady~~you are truly missed by many.

    "CRAZY" was written by Willy Nelson. It was his first hit. But when Pasty took hold of it. It became her song and bas been so for 60? years. Patsy was another artist who died in a small airplane trying to get from one gig to another...that happened a lot...still does it seems.
    Thanks man, for taking the time to recognize people who gave us it all.

    Back in the 60's it was always a highlight for the guys to get asked to dance on a "ladies choice", a slow love song almost always sung by a female. This was one of them and other good ones were: "Hurt" by Timi Yuro, "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals, and "A Thousand Stars in the Sky" by Kathy Young and the Innocents. If you ever get the chance, give them a try.

    The movie about Patsy's life is entitled Sweet Dreams. The song, Crazy, was written by Willie Nelson. He was down on his luck, had to pay the water bill, and he sold the song Crazy. After several years passed, he recorded his own rendition of the song he had written. I like both versions.

    I actually heard this song long before I heard it ... my mom was a huge country fan. I can remember riding in the car with her, it was night and she probably thought I was asleep, mom had the windows open, warm summer air washing over us, mom had one arm out the window, cigarette in hand and she was singing this song. My mom had a lovely voice especially when she sang when she thought no one was listening. To me it sounded like a lullaby but as I think of it now I can see the tears on her cheeks. I did not know at the time that my dad had just left us and mom was driving us to a new life. These country blues were sad songs and they gave my mom strength and I feel that way today, plaintive lullabies that make all the hurting easier to endure

      @Budman_4044 5 лет назад

      That was the point I was trying to make. Most singers didn't write their own music. And most songwriters don't sing. Maybe I should've said you had to have a good singing voice to be in a group or a solo artist.

    I heard this song in a TV movie for the first time in 1993 with my wife (then girlfriend) and it must have been halfway through watching that we both came to the realisation that we loved every song she'd song up until that point, so we both had to asked the obvious question... how come we had never heard of this women before???? ....
    In 1993 we both would have been in our mid 20s yet we had never heard her name or any of her songs. Believe me when I say that growing up listening to commercial radio practically every day (you could not avoid it) I don't ever remember hearing any Patsy Cline songs. If you are old enough to remember the 1970's and 80's then you will know that songs from the 1950's and 60's were on the radio constantly.
    You could not avoid hearing them, least not like nowadays where there are so many channels and methods and devices to engage with music, that you can literally choose to only listen to one style of music and pretty much avoid listening to anything else.
    So how Patsy Cline records were not a regular part of the play list of 1970s and 80s commercial radio is beyond me. I mean even if you set aside the many great records she made, It still does not explain how an amazing song like Crazy (I don't know anyone who does not think that it isn't an amazing record), was not a part of the popular music landscape. Trust me if it was I would not have had to discover the song in a movie on TV as late as 1993 (the movie was made in 1985 and stars Jessica Lang and Ed Harris).
    Why it never got regular air play like the other classic records from the same time period just makes no sense whatsoever.
