"We Don't Believe What's on T.V." by Twenty One Pilots is a love song and a confessional song. It's about Jenna Joseph--Tyler's wife--and it's about Tyler's fear of not being successful. And just like in "Tear in My Heart," Tyler Joseph combines singing about his wife and singing about his insecurities to show how she helps him to be a better person.

It could be his mom. he always talks highly about her and has a few songs about her. "when I fail, you'll still be here". he wants to know that if he doesn't do right, if he fails at anything, she'll be there for him. he also can sing HER pretty sounds as she is very supportive of him. His mother is a big inspiration for him. it could be Jenna, his mom, or even the clique.
it's ok if this song's about Jenna. At the end of the day Tyler still have Josh's name tattooed hfoushflshnlns

I have always hoped this song was about Jenna, but I have seen quite a few interviews where he says the only song he has ever wrote about any girl specifically, including Jenna, was Tear In My Heart. I'm curious of other suggestions?.

when i first heard this song i thought the ''i don't care what's in your hair i just wanna know what's on your mind'' was about how celebs talk about what products they use and tyler wants to know what their opinions are

I disagree, as I'm sure Tyler says Tear in my Heart is the only love song on the album. Kinda think unlike Heathens this one actually is about fans. He has said repeatedly he doesn't expect the massive success, they now have, to last forever but hopes he will always be left with a core fan base. i.e. the clique.

I'll make a quick add-on. Because of the context that one may have from listening to twenty one pilots, I think there's possibly the suicidal undertone in this song but in a positive sense. Tyler is other songs has very much shown that he struggles with mental illness. It's a lot and could make him think that death is an escape from the reality he lives in, but the person that he sings this to makes him maybe want to keep living because s/he shows them that life might be alright and worth living.
If this is the case, then it's kind of a big deal as far as the album is concerned because of the Ride rap. Tyler says that it's easy to say that you'd die for someone. Now that's a reflection of what you mentioned in the Ride explanation in that they're words that can be said, but it may also be a reflection on the fact that due to these depressing thoughts he mentions in Ride as well as in other songs his life is meaningless enough that it's expendable. What leads me to believe this is that if he thought dying for someone was harder than living for someone why does he say that "I'd die for you, that's easy to say," but then that "I'd live for you and that's harder to do, even harder to say," Now I realize I'm thinking myself into submission, but they're are logical progressions that as far as this paragraph goes show there's probably a sense of worthlessness, which fits with the general sense of worth in someone as depressed as where Tyler's writing goes toward, but this song (We Don't Believe) might be meant to be antithetical to that.
Now they're might be a whole new level to delve into because what I wrote in the first paragraph is like something that you would see on TV, but this comment is long enough so I won't touch it. That's why I love Tyler's writing. They have many layers of subtext that can be seen from them at times, as opposed to some rap where there are puns used that are clever but not terribly deep.

I remember seeing a video on Facebook where they were about to perform this song and someone tried to crowd surf and Tyler said "Hey take him back to the back. I wrote this song about my mom and I didn't imagine someone crowd surging to it."
It's a fair point for sure. Is it conclusive? Is he being sarcastic? How do we reconcile the lyrics to being about his mom? These are the questions I struggle with after watching that vid.

Am I the only one who thinks this song is a conversation between Tyler and Blurry's Tyler???
I mean, the first verse and the pre-chorus is Blurryface speaking to Tyler, he is saying that he will never be like the celebrities he sees on TV, and that if he (Blurryface) fails in tormenting Tyler, he want him to stay alive, only for coming back stronger to hit back Tyler, controlling him and making money "selling his hair"
Tyler answer that he doesn't care ''what's in the hair" (how much money they can make by following the Blurryface's idea), he cares what's in our minds, what the clique thinks about him, that his music can help them. Tyler used to think in suicide, but because of the clique, who need him to get over their problems now he has a mission, to save his fans, so he's not gonna leave his fans.
On the second verse it's Blurry saying that if he doesn't succeed as a singer and in his "dream" to help the people, he would have wasted many years of his life in nothing, and he is gonna be noone, then he sings the pre-chorus again and Tyler answers with the chorus, again, but he sings it twice, so Blurryface knows it's his final answer and he's not going to change it.
