  • Die Unstillbare Gier (The Endless Hunger / The Insatiable Desire) from the modern German Opera "Tanz der Vampire" as performed live by Steve Barton.
This rendition has subtitles in both German and English. The translation is not literal because sentence structures were modified to fit they rhythm of the music . I had to substitute or rearrange words in order to retain the same number of syllables in each stanza, and where possible to reproduce rhyming.
Thus "Unstillbare Gier" becomes "Insatiable Need" in english, when a more accurate translation might be "Insatiable Desire".

I firmly believe, that if Steve Barton had lived to play this role, in a version of this show that was as close to the Vienna original as possible, that he would have easily won a Tony, and stepped out of the shadows of his Phantom co-stars. We miss you, Mr Barton, deeply.

I've never heard of him and already I'm crying. Poor guy. If I could travel back in time, I could save his life and he would play Von Krolock on Broadway instead of Michael Crawford

If you refer to the song that plays during the introductory credits, it is from the demo albumn for an anticipated English version of the opera. It is called "Original Sin" and is an approximation of "Gott is Tod", but not really a translation. You can find it on RUclips. Sung by Steve Barton, it never saw the light of day other than the failed comedic musical on broadway that destroyed any chance "Tanz" will ever appear again in USA (Thanks for nothing Crawford!).

That's a good question, the quality of this video, with the changing angles indicates that there is a professionally filmed video of the entire opera, but perhaps not commercially available....

There is no proper english version.
There was an adaptation into English that was made as a sort of "pilot" to test if US Audiences would accept the musical. On that collection the song is named "Endless Appetite", and was recorded by Steve Barton. The lyrics on that are almost completely different from the original. You can find it on RUclips.
Unfortunately, when Tanz opened on Broadway, it was played as a comedy, and was one of the greatest failures of all time. Closed in 4 days.
