  • Gott ist Tot (God is Dead) by Steven Barton, with subtitles in English and German from the modern German Opera "Tanz der Vampire".
This rendition has subtitles in both German and English. The translation is not literal because sentence structures were modified to fit they rhythm of the music . I had to substitute or rearrange words in order to retain the same number of syllables in each stanza, and where possible to reproduce rhyming.

I agree. Steve Barton is all that a vampire should be. Dark, mysterious and seductive... and that voice. It is simply incredible to hear it. He was suited for this role, and he played it SO well. The German version is definitely far superior then the English version...

I'm speechless. This musical is beyond words. And Steve is amazing - just look at his face, he completely LIVES that role!

I'm so happy I found those videos of him on RUclips. I never had the chance to see him perform but fit me he is the one and only krolock. He lives his role and even scares me a little. Perfect

This is not a literal translation, but an interpretation. As I indicate in the comments, interpreting a song remains a compromise between exact word-by-word translation, and changing some words and order of words so that one may maintain the same rhythm and if possible rhyming of the stanzas. The result is an interpretation that conveys the same meaning, but is not a word by word translation. If you ever try doing it, you will find it is a challenging endeavor.

This is actually a very nice translation of one of my favourite TdV songs. :) Could you perhaps make a translation of Einladung zum Ball, my most favourite? :)

@@queeng2921 Sorry, I mistakenly spoke. What I actually uploaded was "Tanzall" ... Same music, different words.

As much as I understand, you got very close, though. Ignoring the fact that the word order had to be changed sometimes to make the phrases of lyrics make sense of course.

You know that most of the original sin text in english is taken from the original "original sin" meat loaf did with Jim Steinman?

Jim Steinman was often criticized for this practice. Some estimates are that any new Steinman project has 70% recycled old Steinman music, and this is no exception.

Am I missing something here or is the chorus a blatant rip-off of Total Eclipse of the Heart? Regardless, I love this song.

The composer of music in this Opera is Jim Steinman. Steinman also wrote "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear " among dozens of other songs. Both of these songs are recycled into this opera.
Steinman is often criticized for this practice, and it is estimated that many of his works consist of 70% recycled material.
