the 2.5 AWD is the best for road holding and grip and sticks to the road like glue
and best of all its a JAAAAG and has class
Fantastic Car, so under-rated!
underrated by idiots
I own the x type 2.0 v6 and it's an amazing car and a dream to drive. The ride comfort is what you would expect from a jaguar. It's a powerful car as well that 2.0 v6 engine will cruise easily at 85-90 mph and as was stated in the video not a gas guzzler that people may think
Got to love the depreciation comment. You can pick up a decent enough X-type these days for £1,000.
And I did just before you wrote this.
It's still in top form ✅
People say this isn't a real jag yet praise all the new cars, what a joke
I'd always imagine an X type driving somewhat like a Mitsubishi Galant, but built slightly better.
The new Jaguars are utterly horrible.
Look awful and are a complete sell out.
Lost their way and are a shadow of their former selves.
@Nicholas Davis the new ones look so boring. Dont stand out whatsover.
^ this, the likes of the F pace and I pace are hideous...
Fantastic car
Just picked up a 2003 2.1 v6 and had an Audi a3 1.9tdi before the jag wipes the floor for handling and all round performance. I've owned a BMW 3series as well and been very dissatisfied, the jag is so underrated and by far a better all round car
It is funny almost all the reviews on the X-type I have seen they keep bringing up how it is based on a Mondeo but isn't one. Well stop bringing it up.
Is it true tho this jaguar model has a ford Mondeo engine inside ?
@@fahimali2707 yes its the same engine with different heads basically
People complaining that it uses a Ford engine so it's not a Jaguar. Then by the same logic some Saabs models are Triumph cars and Lexus doesnt even exist
LOL.
Only 19% overall in common with the Mondeo.
60% of the drive is on the rear wheels, not 40%...
I went and got one in this same colour, its lovelym everyone who has been in it says it is lovely. its feeling a bit retro now but the colour is high fashion again (wtf? but its true, brown is the new white). Lovely acceleration and fun handling, if you need suspension repairs they use Focus ST parts lol. It is quiet and refined inside too.
why is the steering on the wrong sode???
So, can you use parts from a mondeo to repair an xtype?
I have had a 3 l, 234 hp, dark blue manual 5 gear. In town at 30 mph in 5th gear.!
0-60 in 7 sec.!
Good comfort on Brittany narrow roads as well as on the "free motorways" between Brest and Rennes or Nantes to Brest over Quimper. .
. As I had never before driven a Jaguar, I found the interior stunning!
By the Way my first car was a Renault 4.!
Then around 1998, I bought a mgf 120 hp, a 206cc 110 hp
And around 2010 a mazda mx5 nb 140 hp.
BMW 735i from 1988 and 320d touring from 2012 were also mine.
At last a mx5, NC 160.
I have to admit the "jag" and the mgf are my favourites.!
If I buy again 2 of all these cars, just guess which ones.!
Just before buying the x type I had tested a S type 3 l and.... The X seemed more sporty so I decided to get one.
In 2006 on a 440 km long night journey The tachy stayed between 200 and 250 kmh.!!
just got a used 2004 x type this past weekend i think im going to like it rather well
Just got mine Monday think I'm going to like you too.
why is the steering on the wrong side???
I think that 'Motoring Journalist' got the stats wrong in less than two minutes into this review !! .... It's a 60/40 drive train with 60% going to the rear - not the front wheels.
that face 2:21
Face of Jaguar
Driving in Spain?
"more longer"?! but great review.
I see these X Types everywhere where I live. The stole alot off sales from the E46
love it ',.;.;.
люблю Ягуары
Somehow the x-type has developed a reputation as a bit of a failure. However, there are millions of them on UK roads
Yeah... you cant move on Autotrader for them... and I've seen loads for under a grand. Suspiciously cheap.
celt67 The models before 2004 have rocker panel rust issues. Maybe that's why.
celt67 I don’t understand this people to love English cars u need to understand English philosophy if you lack understanding of thereof so stick to the peasant , continental cars
P.S it was a joke but for sure I can say it drives morbidly good like really once I sat in jag my opinion changes dramatically and I understood it’s something in between merc and bmw it handles like bmw but drives like merc
buy
This is a far better practical review, than that of the snobbish Top Gear presenter; Richard Hammond. ✅
39mpg?? Wut!!
The x type only shares 20% of mondeo's parts. How is 20% equal to "heavily based on"?
cool looking and very affordable car, but ask yourself. Can you afford the parts.
Yes I can
Isn't this a posh Ford Mondeo?
@Martti Suomivuori
By your same logic Lexus doesn't even exist. Rolls Royce and Bentley are just undercover BMWs and Volkswagens 🙄
At least these Jaguars look better than the new Jaguar models.
Talk about bland ugly looking Kia/Hyundai look alikes.
Total sell outs now.
Hideous
Ford Mondeo with a nice badge.
Only 19% Mondeo overall. The comparisons at the time were very overblown.
Wrong
Mondeo Vanden Plas.
Atleast did the Jaguar X-Type have permanent AWD with 60% going to the rear wheels. Can't say that about the Mondeo or even.. Volvo
It looks too much like the Rover 75, the 75 was better looking.
Kieran Pearson-Price the 75 was the better car, too.
@@RaspberryCai 75 was the average age of the people who bought the Rover.
The Jag followed on normal Jaguar design language. Rover went completely backwards from producing modern looking cars like the R8 214/216 to the 75 which looks like a saloon version of a hearse.
@@nudisco300 yes, the 75 was an old man's car, but in regards to design language? Not a step back, but an evolution of the 600's design especially, with a larger focus on a retro theme. At least the 75 still looks good, unlike the S type which looks like an inflated frog. And the interior on the 75 is on another level and has aged brilliantly. You can't honestly tell me the S type looks better inside.
@@RaspberryCai Yes the S type is ugly. this is the X type though!
he is a pome so why is it left drive???
Because it was a left hand drive model. not hard to understand is it?
The MAJOR export market for the X-TYPE was to be the U.S..
Here is a more recent review of what these cars are like today ruclips.net/video/ytG_4KFhAK4/видео.html
Horrid by the 75
It is a MAZDA floorpan in the Mondeo?????? PS my Mondeo does about 140MPH and 38MPG driven around 70/75 0n long runs. The ford is just as good as the jag and better in safety since it is a stiffer body !
but, it's an undercover mondeo
and???
And in the words of the Great Jeremy Clarkson; "You're an ignorant twit"
Me_ Teck by your same logic Lexus doesn't even exist. Rolls Royce and Bentley are just undercover BMWs and Volkswagens 🙄

What fucking language are you speaking at the start!!?? I can't understand what the hell this European lingo means...
"...traditionally ferb old duffers for younger buyers...."
"considerably more wonger... considerably flustered"
"the rear of the car is in the closet"
This car was a reliability nightmare
and so was your Crayola sharpener...
Have a gold 2005 xtype...no probs at all, still ticking after 185 thou miles, use 91 octane, simple matenance,n 3.0 v6 AWD. Champagne interior.
Ripoff Mondreo in drag
Beta male in drag?

@@Nthstar looks good, no denying, that it looks really expensive.....love the design
Mondeo.Nothing else
Ivan Mico Have you driven it? If yes, you would write differently. It is fun to drive, very comfortable and here in switzerland the image is two points better, than the "average" BMWs Audis and Mercedes´. A little more power, we have the 2.5, and its the best car after our 740d BMW....
+Jordan Gibbons nope, bimmer fans re retards, bimmer is no longer exclusive, goodbye bimmer fans you days are over and no you aint getting let out of that junction....

@@Nthstar Nope. Because Rolls Royce uses the platform of a BMW 7 series, which is excelent RWD platform of a premium car. Bentley uses the platform that VW developed for Porsche, Audi A8 and Bentleys and its is a well designed premium platform. But Jaguar X-type uses the FWD Mondeo platform, which is not premium, is of average design at best and they only made it AWD (with FWD bias) to make it acceptable for supposedly premium vehicle. But it did show on driving dynamics and that is why it did not sell well. That is also reason why X-type did not get succesor immediatelly and the later succesor (not under Ford anymore) is using RWD platform. So your point is not valid. Platform sharing can be done well and can be done badly.
Junk. Period.
John Ward better than any car tata made
pokejag 04 garage I love mine
Nick Automotive game unboxing I just watched james may destroy I beautiful jaguar xk8 and hammond destroy a 420, it was sad
@@nickautomotivegameunboxing1578 Love both of mine too!
Turned out to be a terrible car.
No it didn't. It was Jaguars biggest selling model to that date. It was underpinned by the world car of the year, handled almost as good as a 3 series BMW (read the reviews from that time) and was classy.
Please qualify your comment. Do you own one? Have you ever driven one? or are you just expressing your ignorant opinion? I happen to own 2 X-Types, and they are fantastic! The classic lines of the XJ-series, AWD, and a torquey 3.0 DOHC engine, coupled to a 5-speed automatic; that can cruise at 80MPH@ 30MPG.
This car was a reliability nightmare
Actually it scored quite highly in the driverpower score
+Andre Di Stefano I prefer to look at it as preventative maintenance.
Andre Di Stefano becuse people drive them into the ground
and so was your Crayola sharpener...
This car was a reliability nightmare
Andre Di Stefano so you keep saying.
and so was your Crayola sharpener... TROLL!
