  • It's a sustainable choice that keeps me from constantly buying iron supplements. Simply boil it for 10 minutes with 2 drops of lemon, and it’s good to go! @luckyironlife is made from food-grade electrolytic iron powder and FDA certified, it's gentle on the stomach and incredibly versatile.
I use it to fortify everything from my matcha and baked goods to veggie broth and stews. With summer here, I can even make iron-infused ice cubes for my drinks!
To keep it in top shape, wash it with soap and water, dry it thoroughly, and it should last you 5 years. I add a touch of coconut oil to protect it, and it’s ready for its next use!

Anthropologists invented it! To help a region that had a big part of the population struggling with iron deficiency! At first they were iron cubes but the local didn’t used them to cook and most were used as door stoppers! The anthropologist decided to try making them fish shaped since it is a very important part of the cooking culture of that area. It worked! People started using them and the amount of people with iron deficiency drastically reduced!

If you have an iron deficiency, also make sure you're not drinking caffeine and that your vitamin C levels are up! I had low-iron anemia and once I started upping my Vitamin C intake I felt *much* better. I had been taking iron tablets, had my lucky iron fish, and had been increasing iron in my diet, and was still deficient until I upped my Vitamin C intake. I would reccomend just eating tangerines or a grapefruit or whatever rather than drinking OJ, for instance, as the way the juice is processed often gets rid of the Vitamin C beneficial for iron deficiency.

Ascorbic acid is sensitive to exposure to heat, light, and oxygen so yes there can be a loss in vitamin c compared to completely fresh fruit juice. However although some vit c molecules *can* degrade during pasteurization due to the increased temperature, the majority of vit c is retained and there’s still a significant level of vit c in processed juice.

Research shortened for those like me who never trust anything at a first glance, it does work, however is largely unnecessary unless you're actively experiencing issues from low iron levels. The effects aren't instant and require a lot of use of the product (3-6 months of use 3 times a day) so if you dont have time to boil water or make soup that often, or just need quicker relief from your symptoms, then other options may be better for you.
Use of this product is unlikely to be harmful, as its really hard to get the body (assuming healthy) to absorb more iron than it needs, and the slow absorbsion of this product makes it especially difficult to over dose on iron.
Overall, if you are iron difficent, and cant gain that iron though your normal meals or supplements because of lifestyle or health concerns, this product could be helpful to you with proper use, and is a good bit less expensive than iron cookware and alternatives.

Great discussion but I’d like to add that iron supplements do take time as well. If you’re iron deficient, it could take 4 weeks for the levels to increase and also haemoglobin can take about 2 months to increase.
Having said that, iron supplements have different chemical structure and iron polymaltose has fewer side effects than traditional iron supplements (ferrous iron) so you may benefit from those supplements

I don’t think this would be enough for major iron deficiency. I could be wrong, though.
If you get an upset stomach taking iron supplements, you can try other types of iron supplements that have other active ingredients (iron in different chemical formations). These could be ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous succinate, ferrous sulfate.
Mom vomits from taking ferrous gluconate but not ferrous fumarate.
If none of those work, you could try to supplement directly with hemoglobin capsules instead. That basically deconstructed animal blood, lol. But it’s generally well tolerated.
Also remember to eat vitamin C with the iron if the tablets don’t already contain vitamin C. It helps with absorption.

But this isn’t hugely useful unless you are eating a poor diet. The studies on it showed that it helps in reducing some anemia (43% reduction in anemia rate in the study cohort) if you have an iron deficiency.
But if you eat meat (which you should…) you should already have more than enough iron in your diet. This was developed with impoverished mothers in Cambodia in mind. That group specifically is vulnerable to dietary anemia.

    • @tainicon4639
      @tainicon4639 3 месяца назад

@@EJBradley a lot of vegetables have it as well it’s just not as bio available (Heme is very digestible), so you need to eat like an entire bag of spinach each day instead of just 1 serving. Celiacs probably requires iron supplementation when first starting out on a GF diet. My brothers doctor told him to eat red meat multiple times per day and to take iron pills. Either that or start eating liver…
Same goes for endometriosis (also women who are going through periods in general) need a decent amount of iron in their diet.
In those cases it works… but you would need to prepare 4-5 liters of liquid with it per day to get the minimum daily iron dosage (in cases with blood loss you need more), so you can’t easily rely on it alone.
Thinking about this again, you have hit on the demographic that benefits from this. People who have a health condition making their iron requirements higher than normal and are also not well off enough to regularly eat red meat.

I don't know if you've tried adding more beef to your diet, but if you've had stomach problems, try using lean beef and gradually bringing that that level up so that you can consume more types of beef. My eldest went off beef for a while and then when she tried to reincorporate it in her diet, she struggled a bit. But we did find that this process of slowly upping the fat from very lean to slightly lean to normal to fatty helped her immensely and now she can enjoy a nice ribeye with the rest of us. Granted, the more fat there is, the less heme iron there is in the meat overall, but sirloin gets boring real quick and it's hard to eat enough lean beef to get the iron you need.
